week upon week i traveled up to the local video store hoping to get the new MOH and onee day it's there so i put it in the ps2 and it's kind of like the terminator... kill kill sometimes have a hard mission, the AI sucks the japs do nothing there accuracy is horrible even on the HARD difficulty level the extremely anti-climactic ending. WAY to easy i beat it in 1 day and took it back, no re-playability. back to its to easy, way to easy soooo many surgical packs and medicine cantines even a 8 year oild could beat this game..

take my advice dont even rent this game, find a friend who has it and borrow it, i dont think they'll care it's so bad

Don't waste your money

This game is a real step in the wrong direction for EA.

1. The AI for the Japanese is laughable. They open fire long before you're within range. This gives away their position, and allows you to easily snipe them before they can hit you.

2. The enemy will often become confused and face the wrong direction. Even if they're shooting at you -- simply zig-zagging will allow you to dodge their fire 99% of the time, allowing you to kill them rather easily. The deadliest enemies are the cooks, they throw knives.

3. The guys that pop up from their spider holes will be facing the wrong way half the time, allowing you to walk up and kill them "execution style".

4. Where is Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Okinawa? There's a couple of short missions, then you become a "secret agent". There's no historical significance to this game at all. It's "Doom" where you fight the Japanese, nothing more.

5. The game was too short -- I finished it in 3 days, and I just play a little every night to blow off some steam after work! This is unaccepable, the game costs $50, yet only has about 1/4 the content of other games.

Flawed, Flawed, Flawed!

Oh what a disappointment. Frontline was very big shoes to fill, and this game did not even come close. Rising Sun is too short, too simple, not inventive enough, and a clear cashing in by EA on an established franchise. The first criticisms are self explanatory, as far as it being not inventive enough it was just because it was just such a plain vanilla FPS. Lots of shooting, cookie cutter levels, a fairly small selection of weapons, and an uninspired story line, not a list of things that I was expecting to see from the sequel of one of the best PS2 games of all time.

I only gave the game two stars because the Pearl Harbor opening is breathtaking, but it is a gigantic let down from there. The only other real highlight is an acceptable multi-player setup, which was missing from the first game. However if I were given the choice between the multi-player and a game with a length similar to the first one I would take the longer game.

What is perhaps the most galling about this game is that there is another sequel on the way for next year. Now we can see why this game seemed too short by half, because it is only half! Rent this game don't buy it, and hope that the sequel to this sequel is an improvement. Shame on everyone at EA for soiling a great gaming franchise.

What The !????

I, too, waited a long time for this game to arrive and WOW, was I disappointed. The first one was excellent but the new one is kinda sucky. The Japanese soldier doing a baynot charge is fun but very dopey after a while. It needs major work....wait and rent it before buying.

MOH: it's worst is still better than many games

I got this game for christmas, and while I can't say I love it, I do enjoy it. It is no where near as good as frontline but I don't see any decline in the graphics. The biggest problem i noticed is with the aiming. I can shoot an enemy at point-blank range with a sniper rifle, and it doesn't hit them or offer a killing shot when in all reality it should (please, a rifle-fired shot to the head shouldn't cause an enemy to hop like they were shot in the leg). Also, I quickly lost interest in the guadalcanal stage. I appreciate the move towards authenticity in that it's a commando-type operation in the middle of a jungle during the night, but this stage offered mazes with near blackout conditions (can't seen anything from lack of proper lighting) which ended up being more tedious than fun. That, coupled with making it nearly to the end of the stage and being stabbed by a charging enemy I shot at totally ruined the stage because I had to repeat some of its more annoying parts. This stage was so ill-lit that my eyes were watering, and I nearly had a headache from the video-game vertigo it caused.

This is a game I'd recommend for MOH fans. It still has the mostly great game play and graphics that carries this series far above most shooters. For those of you who have never played medal of honor, get medal of honor frontline, it's cheaper and by far the greatest game of this series.

It's great but short

Medal Of Honor:Rising Sun is a great game.My father plays every single one of the games. He got Rising Sun for Christmas and he beat it on Decmeber 28,2003.My dad says that it has the best graphics on any Medal Of Honor game. But he said it was too short. There was 8 missions. There was about more than 20 in the first one,the second, and the first one for Playstation 2.I have wrote many reviews on here for all about...250 games I have for all systems(except DreamCast and XBox).Well anyway, this is the shortest game my dad ever played and it only takes us 1 week to 3 months to beat a very long game.

Back to Frontline

Well Rising Sun was not at all what I expected! Finished the game in two sessions of 2-3 hours, and when I thought I had completed a level, it was finished.

Frontline took me just shy of two weeks of 2-3 hours of play a day and I still went back and played it again and again. It is an awesome game and it is back in the PS2. Rising Sun is the next game I will be trading in at the local electronics store.

If you want it know what the game is like, rent it first..... If you really like it after that then go and buy it, if not you only wasted $10.

this is not as fun as the first

I loved the first MOH, that beach landing seen was great! so i waited for rising sun, and i am dissapointed. Maybe it is because there are some great computer games that i have played since then like 1942 for the PC. Now that is a great game! so today rising sun just does not hold up well today (even though EA made both games). My biggest complaint is the controls, moving and aming is HORRIBLE! when you are use to the mouse on a PC and then you try to aim with the PS2 controler i cant hit anything. Also when you drop down in a ditch, a simple jump should get you out, but no you have to strugle to get out (the controls are furstrating)

This is a rental at best

An OK game but not to the Standards of Frontline

I LOVED Medal of Honor Frontline. Its one of my favorite games on the PS2 to date. Maybe thats why i had such high hopes for Rising Sun. First off let me hit the main complaint, yes its to short, and the back of the box trys to make it look like theres more missions than frontline. While in Frontline each Mission has many sublevels ranging from 2 to 6. Each Mission in Rising Sun is just one mission and once you finish it you go on to the next mission. So really they cut down on amount of gameplay. Yet just because its shorter doesnt mean that its a bad game. Really if you think about there arent that many games that give you ur $50 dollars worth these days, like i bought Lord of the Rings: Return of the King the other day and i beat it in 3 days. So although its bad that theres less gameplay i still get a lot of use out of it because i replay games but not everybody does so be warned, yes this is a shorter game. Now a lot of people have said that the multiplayer isn't great, in fact some say its down right terrible, but i dont have the online adaptor and i have no siblings who play video games so i cant really say how the multiplayer is, i just have to go on what ive heard. And the AI is a big let down. At first, yah its cool that the Japanesse hid in the ground and run up and stab you but it gets old real fast, usually they just stand out in the open reloaded so you can easly kill them, and they still dont notice when you snipe someone standing right next to them. But those are only the down sides to the game. You still have a very solid shooter here, and despite flaws its at least worth a rental if you dont decide to buy it, but i would go with buying it because i really enjoyed it for the about eight hours it took me to finish this game. I wish i could give this game 3 and 1/2 stars because thats what it really deserves. I just think everyone was expecting another frontline.

Buy it used or not at all- just don't pay full price!

I agree with Mark on all counts regarding this game. Additionally, I believe that MOH Frontline should be used as a marker against which to compare the new installment, as EA Games set standards with Frontline that should regularly be achieved by similar games. Cons first.

Again, the AI is tiring and redundant, and the levels are all essentially the same. Yes, you get to shoot down planes, etc., but that addition does not make up for the boredom caused by the rest of the game. The only thing I'll say about the elephant is this: Why? If the answer is "Because it's different and unexpected", then EA Games has underestimated the intellects of its normally loyal followers from the days of Frontline. I have a feeling those days are beginning to wane...

The effort spent developing Rising Sun in no way reflects the sheer quality and playability of its predecessor, as it lacks the "fun" implied in "playability". Also, a bit of historical inaccuracy: M1 Garands weren't issued until late in the war, which is something that EA obviously either missed or simply decided to ignore in favor of sales.

What pros exist in light of all this? Not many. Shoot down planes that tend not to go down at all but instead simply emit fire from their tails, and use some new weapons like the T-11 and T-99 light machine guns. These are interesting weapons, but the addition (in the beginning of the game) of '03 Springfields with the Pederson device might have been a better option for historical accuracy and novalty. I do like the spider holes, but they get repetative and predictable since the soldier inside, in every case, vocalizes before springing up from the ground.

As for owning it myself, I'm glad I do, since I am a WWII "enthusiast", collecting weaponry from the era. If you have Frontline, and love it, get Rising Sun to continue your collection. Just don't buy it thinking that it will bring you similar joy. It simply doesn't live up to the standards of the original. If any EA Games reps read this, by the way: Don't put elephants in the middle of hard-run battle scenes- it's unrealistic and obviously for shock value. If I were a soldier, I'd rather be on foot, stalking my enemy instead on top of the biggest target in the jungle.
