(... basically my review for KOTOR)
No bugs/game patched ... Windows XP/SP2 ... not one crash

This game has the feel of: "being part of a good movie".
The UI(... user interface) is the best I've seen.
The combination of RPG/RTS/Turn Based, when coupled with the que/pause to form an attack; brilliant.
So, why the lower rating.
Simply put: "the ending(s)were simplistic/weak and not as thorough as I would have liked".
Consider all the dialogue options; the character relationship possibilities ... some dialogue/characters just seemed to "dry up" ... then you get to the end and, well, I don't want to spoil it for first time players
I expected "much more" of a overall ending scenario based on "my decisions + dialogue options".
The romantic relationship(s) ... well, they go nowhere
I only was able to get involved with one character ... I played male
Yet, all 3 thought I was "the best thing since sliced bread" ?
I basically used the same trio, unless the game required otherwise.
Now, I played it 6 times ... 2-Light; 2-Dark; 2 just going solo(... one each way).
Found it more enjoyable to just forgo the dialogue/ character relationship options.
I simply pumped up my skills with cheats which were equivalent to what my party member would have had.
This way, I had no "ending letdown".
Now, if you don't really care about character followthrough, as it relates to your decisions/dialogue choices and what/how the ending would look like, then it's a 5 star game.
I wanted an ending to match the time I took in developing "my story/decisions/choices"; sadly, I felt cheated.

* influence-success/failure ... didn't notice much of a difference ... seemed it was my character's Good/Evil that determined the endings ?
* my character(s) looked to be 30yrs old or so, yet one female NPC called me "too old" for her ?

First off, the plot is not that difficult, if you follow your compainion's dialogue carefully. You are an EX Jedi Knight who served with Reven(in fact you WERE his right hand man so to speak). You and Reven ended the Mandalorian battle(not the war) at Malachoir V(That snowy Scutta says that name alot). You were cast out of the Jedi order for your misdeeds(you were awair it was wrong but used your own judgment anyway).- This is all BEFORE your main plot in the game as a player character. Dialogue choices(in flash sequence) determine WHY your character faced trial and did what he did as well as the nature of his doing this. In the present: Your dialogue effects not only you but your past KoToR 1 character as well(I won't say who he is but you wanted the plot). You can chose a man a woman either benevolent(as in Good and Kind) or Malevalant(as in Mal-adjusted misfit) as Luke-like Anakinsh or the female varient of both such as: Luke's Neimisis in Heir to the Empire sort-I like cats and in sentinal/assasin garb and grace. Superfically you chose your Light saber color and style(no 2 separate whepons but who cares, you can chose a new one(s)) As the "Plott thickens" and it does, believe me, Kriea gives a lot of info and finally spills her guts about the nature of things.(you do need high charisma and influence for this to happen propperly) Visas Marr is an added character for your power and Love life, but not much in the way of YOUR personal history Plot. The most pivotal character(for YOUR plot) is Bao Dur. He served with you and was YOUR right hand man.(Holding a bit of bitterness if you rub him the wrong way). You'll have to influence ALL of your crew in order to advance the plott to a coherent understanding, Otherwise, it's just a RPG hackn slash with attack bonuses and Force powers. If the credits roll up to fast, just start over and try to please your crew for more plott. Be a Sentinal for persuasion and use Charisma(not normally associated with this class) for heavy influence beyond "Persuade" Skill. Your compainions and NPCs on other planets alinke will break down and cry at your feet. The plot is superb!
and now part II of this long review(as long as a letter I sent ot Lucas and Obsidan via snail mail). The bugs are numorous, anyone not experiencing them Bravo, it goes without saying, I don't need to give you a cookie; but for the rest of us, It is a severe drawback and the company(s) need to fix them instead of blaming the other like finger-pointing kindergardeners they are(a trend in most big business Video game companies) Fanboys just make them work less and flaming a player instead of a company is feeding the Dark side. Green is Greed. Red is just Mad as hockey stix. And both are bad. Only True blue(truth) and Mellow Yellow(diplomacy) will work this out. I sugest buying the latest and greatest computer rig(despite what people think or tell you in locals shops) that means the Top of the Line PC and Video card(not ATI there terrible). YOu will have little problems if your Co prosessor(dual prefferabley) works them out and less likely to crash the system. Twin vid makes any failing of the drivers irrelevant as the speed is inormous(with all graphic settnigs at max). Cool your system to freezing(figuratively) as in proper fans and fan positons(not just the hardware but stradegy) Lower the front and make it suck raise the rear and make it blow. OR go watercooled as a Voodoo or a Falcon NW. Only NVidia offers Twin cards also go RAID 0 prime Hard disk(s) and a separate HD for games is a must for both stability and speed.(despite what the techs say). Taking the load off the main HD(2xRAID0) makes it focus on the OS, not the game then drive D:(so to speak) can access the game.
Finally go pentium for less cooling problems(unless water cooling your chipset --AND-- CPU BOTH). I have blown serveral AMD's bye the fact that thier fans suck and they don't sell them(for the older MB) after a year. A20mm Chipset fan is impossible to find for a AMD K7M266 for instance. KoTor 1 as well as 2 has problems on ATI drivers(not hardware) XBox also has it's share of problems(that cannot be fixed with patches) so Go nVidia to get these games running right.
Final part: The game is broken down in to serveral worlds and the sub-plotts tie in to the main plott well. Nar Shadda is a very elaborate planet in it's self and so are the others. IN KoToR 1 the pre-spaceship trip(as in Taris and Dantooine) were the big parts and the other worlds were too short and simple in KoToR 2 this is not the case, you spend endless hours on EVERY world you explore plus you have to return later to touch up on things before final confrontion. Malachoir(Mal=Messed up I guess) is your last stop(as you sort of crash there). The game uses a SIMILAR not exact 20d system as in Dungeons and Dragons. Thier is no logic in why wielding two lightsabers is penalized by your strenght lightsabers weigh nothing. Also 1.5 in the main hand for a double-blade or a single with no other is not logical. Stength in a beem of light doesn't come in to play. The attribute should be used for other things as in ship maintianence or hauling stuff(in this game only) or in Melee combat at first or heavy rifel use, not in sabers. The game is potintially(thought Obsidan has no interest in working the bugs out)the best game on the planet and it is a shame and a crime that the bugs are not corrected NOW! That's the El Nino and I am outtahere!

Well, I originally defended this game because I really enjoyed my gaming experience. My main complaint would have been the ending. You really had to sit and think to figure out just what happened. I did some research and found that there are indeed files that were not used in final edition of this game that can be found in the PC data files, many of which involved other members of your party confronting the danger at the end. Seeing what happened to this game, I have to change my review (which was apparently unhelpful anyway :) ) in order to reflect the fact that while I feel this game is a truly rewarding experience, people should know how its ending was altered, taking away from what could have been a completely worthy successor to Knights I. The dialogue files can be found online with a little effort, and will help people see just how good this game could have been.

A Fine Addition to the Star Wars Universe

While it cannot match the lofty standards set by its predecessor, KOTOR II: The Sith Lords is nonetheless another opportunity for an entertaining romp through the Star Wars universe.

Set several hundred years before the events of the prequel trilogy, KOTOR II chronicles an epic conflict between the Sith Lords and the Jedi, and while KOTOR II possesses a fresh an engaging storyline, the core gameplay elements of the original KOTOR remain almost identical, and with good reason. The original KOTOR achieved the honored mantle of "Game of the Year" of 2003, and for the most part KOTOR II is an almost identical experience. Following the Mandalorian Wars and the vicious rampages of the dark Jedi Malak and Revan, the Jedi Order is all but destroyed. The last remaining Jedi, having narrowly escaped obliteration, drifts on a battered freighter near the mining colony of Peragus. Not surprisingly, this Jedi is you. Your link to the force severed, your lightsaber gone, you awake in the medical bay situated in the aforementioned mining colony, only to discover that the miners are all dead and a Sith Lord has been tracking you.

The scene is hence set for a series of spectacular battles, often involving several enemies. The gameplay mechanics involve meandering through a series of sprawling worlds, battling hordes of enemies and collecting items with the aim either of uniting the Jedi Order (Light Side) or destroying the Order (Dark Side.) Like its predecessor, KOTOR II has a very detailed character customization system, and your alignment determines which force powers and abilities you can learn. For example, by undertaking "Dark Side" activities such as overthrowing a government/killing off the remaining Jedi, your character gains Dark Side points, allowing him/her to learn Dark Side force powers such as Force Storm. For the most part the Dark/Light side choices occur in the form of conversation choices, where politeness often earns Light side points.

The musical score is excellent, with sustained orchestral themes alternating with suitable suspenseful, brooding undercurrents. Though at times the effect is jarring (when your character enters a battle, the music explodes into a loud action score), the music is overall very effective. The plot is also highly entertaining, and almost as engaging as in the first game of the series. Graphically, the detail is adequate but not incredible, though the cinematic cut scenes are well rendered. In Role Playing Games of this ilk, the plot, being character-driven requires solid voice acting and KOTOR II does not disappoint, with Sara Kestelman and Kelly Hu playing principal characters in the game.

In conclusion, though not as ground-breaking or original as its predecessor, KOTOR II is a long (25 hours +) game with a solid plot and fine cast. Those who shiver with excitement at the prospect of an immersive and involving RPG set in the Star Wars universe will undoubtedly enjoy the game immensely, but those who have played the original three years ago will discover a very similar gaming experience to the original KOTOR.

KOTOR II remains one of the most engaging RPGs of the year.

If you liked KOTOR, you should try this one.

This is a good game, definitely a worthy investment if you liked the first one, and I don't see how anyone wouldn't like the first one. The plot is pretty good, not as good as the first one though. It is more complex and mysterious than the first and it leaves you with a lot of questions unanswered at the end, which I think, means there will be a third KOTOR.
The plot is basically this... Almost all the Jedi have been wiped out. You are a Jedi who was banished and stripped of your title for following Revan to the Mandelorian wars and you have lost your ability to use the force. Through out the game you regain your force powers, learn more about what happened to the Jedi and of course, you meet some colorful characters. This game is very similar to the first in terms of gameplay, but a few nice additions have been made, such as more force powers, lightsabers are more customizable, and then there is the addition of "influence points" which you build up between various characters and these points determine how willing they are to share their own interesting story with you. The story has lots of action, mysterious pasts, complex motives and even some subtle romance. There are a few cameos of characters from the previous game.

I had a lot of fun playing this game at my friends house. It is fun to make 2 games and one dark and one light. I love all the force powers there r so many. I think u will have a lot of fun with this game. It also gives u tons of replay value.

If you enjoy RPG-type games and "Star Wars," then you will like this game. While not as strong plot-wise as the first game in the series, it's still a better Star Wars movie than any of the prequels. Gameplay is as you'd expect from the first game, with some changes that aren't distracting.

Yes, this game is flawed. Chunks of it don't make any sense, and it is clear that for whatever reason the developer shoveled it out the door before it was done. Compare the enormous Nar Shadaa level with the paltry Korriban level. And there are some jarring jumps and loose ends that leave you scratching your head. Combat is too easy at times, and there is a lot of rat-killing in various levels where you have to defeat numerous local beasts.

Despite its faults, however, this is a fun game. For under $[...], you can't go wrong with this game. Buy and enjoy.

An incomplete game.

What could've been a great classic on par with the original KOTOR has become a mediocre, bug filled incomplete game due to a rush christmas release date for the xbox. Obsidian did not have time to finish and polish the game leaving major holes in the story and several major plots incomplete or just missing. People who've hacked into the game have found tons of dialogue that hint of what couldve been a truly amazing game.

Overall the game is very similar to the original KOTOR. However either due to the rush job or too many characters, you feel as if you never got to know the other characters like the original game and some of them are just boring. The graphics has been marginally improved and the music is still good overall. Not many additions to the game except for the prestige classes, the ability to make your other characters Jedi or Dark Side and some odd and ends.

Overall I liked the game. However with a major hole in the ending, I felt cheated of my money and time playing the game. I blame it on Lucasart and not on Obsidian who had to turn a game of this size in less than 2 years. If they had taken more time with it, it couldve been much better.

I'm glad I missed this game when it first came out. At this time of the year (Feb/Mar) when there are nothing but third-rate games coming out, it's great to be able to play a quality single-player RPG!

I am a big fan of the original Knights of the Old Reblic, and was very excited about this sequal. Over all I feel that a if you're a fan of the first game you will likely enjoy this one. The gameplay is basicly the same even though the character development and dialog leaves much to be desired. Also I hate to admit it but the ending is by far one of the most disapointing of any game I have ever played. I have a ATI X600 Graphic Card and it only frooze maybe once or twice. After playing the game I feel that even with its low points, KOTOR The Sith Lords is a worthy game of any star wars fan.
