Devil May Cry 2 is in fact an amazing game, no doubt about it, its wonderfully put together game to say the least. Created on 2 disks, Disk one Dante Disk and ... 2, Lucia disk, DMC 2 Has so much gameplay and tons of secrets to look into enhanceing the game to an even greater level...however one of the core elements, the move buying part of dmc was taken out, thus dmc 2 revieves 4 stars...great game tons and tons of replay....and u dont have to play the game thru twice, a level chooser comes into play after the first time....Go RENT devil may cry 2, then buy it if u like it

Not THAT bad, but bad! for Capcom...

Ok. It does seem like this game was thrown out in a hurry. I liked the wider area's because it let you do the stunts that are allowed in this game. (Wall walking and etc.) The guns, like in any dmc game, do nooooothing to the bosses. (unless you use the rocket launcher over and over) The melee fighting gets repetative... and the lack of story was horrible... Ok so some guy wants demon powers and bla bla. I looooved the city stages and the last levels. The ending makes you want more!! to the story as well... Part 3 totally! made up for all this, but I'm still waiting for part 4! 'cause of this game's ending... Not to mention Dante's personality is... well, Lacking! Although I like this look more than part 1's.

Overall, it does not! live up to the first dmc. Orbs are soooo hard to get and like usual, items are expensive. Don't expect much, but enjoy it as much as you can. There's at least a little something you can get out of it. :P

Couldave been a whole whole lot better

Pros:
-Nice features
-Superb graphics
-Devil trigger is improved
-Dante is a bit faster
-alot of bosses
-Nice FMV sequences
-Improved music
-Improved continue system
-Dante's with more techniuqes makes him pretty awsome
Cons:
-Waaay 2 short, and I'm talkin disc 1 and 2 combinded
-They could have added alot more to both Dante's and Lucia's disc
-where's the Donte we know? The one who talk's trash throughout the game instead of at the end
-Hardly any excitment, cuz the game was way to easy and short
-Most of the techniques are hardly any use
-Guns and swords are slow, unless you're in devil trigger state
-The story and the characters are hardly involving at all
-The bosses are way too easy
-Not as much weapons as Devil May Cry
-Lucia's disc is hardly worth anything, cuz she has no guns
-It seems like a S rating is impossible to get
-Enimies are not all that amusing either
-Trish woulda seemed more sutable for a sidekick for Dante than Lucia
-Pretty bad voice acting
-Dante's old trash talkin, younger voice was much better

This is sad, when such a good bad-... game, goes to sad ... game. This game was a major dissapointment. The game looked great at first, but then the bosses were too easy, and this game was hardly a good expirience. If they woulda did more than improve techniuqes, and stuff, and improve the story, the levels,The excietment factor, the bosses, the lenght, the voice acting, and the weapons system, this wouldave been a much better game. 80 bux says if they had thier old director, from one of the best games ever made DMC, then this game wouldave been jes as good as DMC. But in this case I highly suggest a rental, cuz this games predisesor puts this sequal to shame; this is very sad.

Devil may cry...so might reviewers...but i wont!!!

Ahhhh the sweetness of living up to all the hype. Critics may say its to easy...and not as good as the first. BS! Its as hard as you want it to be...sure if you want you can walk your way throguh the game...sorta. But if you want to truly play the game to its potential...you have to use bad-[end] combos which arent easy to pull off in the heat of fighting. Grapchic wise its jus as good as the first and is the most scenic game ive ever seen...all types of cultures...mountains....villages...gothic...and Metropoitan. The story is also pretty cool is you actually pay attention to the diolauge. New character is pretty cool and changes the game to some extenet bought isnt nearly bad-[tail] as donte. In the end its the best action game to date. This game jus makes you feel "COOL" It comibines zelda and the matrix which is a sweet comnination. Better than the first in terms of grpahcis...levels...characters...bosses...sotry is not as good but good enough. Highly recomemeded!!!

Devil May Cry 1 Was Better But ...

DMC2 is pretty good. The original game had an interesting story behind it, while DMC2 doesn't have much of a story behind it at all. Although I haven't beaten the game yet, for the most part, all you're doing is running around using your sword or guns to kill the bad guys ... and that's about it. There are a few (fairly simple) puzzles such as finding keys, etc., but the majority of the game is spent punching your weapon button over and over and over and over ...

That said, some of the bosses are rather complicated, and it takes quite a bit of time to beat some of them. There are a few new moves in the game, such as kicking off walls, but in the 8 or so hours I've been playing, most of the new moves seem to be just for looks ... and admittedly they DO look good. But as of yet, I haven't really found a truly useful purpose for most of them as far as fighting, etc. A couple of exceptions are Dante's new flying ability, and his new "fast running" ability (both earned further into the game). He may have more moves later to come, though, since I haven't gotten all the way through the game yet.

The weapons are (so far) very boring. Dante has one sword, one pair of guns, and I obtained a shotgun later in the game. Nothing really interesting, but perhaps the selection will improve later in the game.

The game contains two CD's -- the first one has the "Dante" version on it, and the second one is where you're "Lucia". I haven't played the "Lucia" version much yet, but so far I haven't been able to figure out who she is or why she's even there. There's not much dialog in either version, and there have only been a few cutscenes so far that feature Dante and Lucia working together, and so far there has been NO actual gameplay that includes both characters at the same time. (What *is* that white thing she's wearing on her shoulder, anyway? It looks like a sideways bib! LOL!)

All in all, fighting the bad guys is fun and the game is enjoyable to play, but the lack of depth in the storyline and rather boring weapons selection leaves a bit to be desired.

I bought the game the day it was released, and don't regret it since I'm a Dante fan, but for the "average" video-gamer, I'd recommend renting it first. ;-)

Pretty Good...

Lets start it off like this; I absolutely loved Devil May Cry (the first one). I think it may be one of my top 5 games of all time. Pure action game.
Going through normal on Devil May Cry II as Dante, I was impressed with how everything felt and looked. The moves were stylish, and Dante was godly. My only issue with the first few levels is that all the enemys are too ... easy. I mean honestly; Devil May Cry was all about the challenge in defeating enemys... and oh my lord... some of those bosses got pretty damn nasty. n this game it's like "Lalala, Dante kill everything. Dante is happy. Ooohhh, a skeleton in metal bondage... should be interesting." *SLASH* "Wow... its dead... already."
I still think that Dante is an awsome character and that this game does still have its challenges... however these challenges are mostly in Dante's final boss alone... or *shudder* jumping/flying puzzles.
I've now beaten the game wih Lucia and Dante on hard mode. Still a good game, but definitely doesn't own up to the first.

Kicking a$$ and taking names...

Now to start with I have to say that this game is very impressive. The major change that you will notice right from the start is the ability to run up walls and and flip backwards (WOW!!). I love this move. Another is that there are two discs, one you play as Dante the other you play as Lucia. I have also found that if the game is defeated on hard difficulty you will be able to unlock additional character...(you will see for yourself). The graphics are amazing and the replay factor is very high. This is the game to get you will not be dissapointed. Hope I helped you in your decision.

Not bad.

Dante the badass demon hunter for hire is back. The story is about a rich man named Arius who's out to gather Arcana artifacts that will somehow transform him into a super demon. Lucia, the guardian of the artifacts, hires Dante to stop him. That's about as deep as the story will go, but then this is an action game.

Graphics: A mix bag. Dante, Lucia, and a couple of bosses look fabulous. On the other hand some levels look bland and uninspiring. You can see they reuse the same textures over and over on some levels. This isn't really that distracting, more of a disappointment. The same can be said for the enemies you face. Some look great (goat demons) others are just a blob of mess (monkey-like demons Msiru).

Sound: Dante doesn't have as many one-liners compared to DMC1, but it's still there ("Here's your crown" before blasting a king wannbe demon in the face). In fact there aren't as many dialogue as the first one, but then again this is an action game. Less talk more corpses please. The voice acting for Dante and Lucia is surprisingly adequate. Since this is a Capcom game I was expecting some B-rated movie voices read from some yellow notepad bought at Office Depot. Arius on the other hand sounds like a typical bad guy lunatic: shrieking like a 6 year old girl.

The music is great. There's some ambient gothic music when exploring and there's, of course, rock music when fighting. The music fits this game perfectly. Never too over the top and distracting. Some of it is quite good. Listen to the piano tune in the options menu from the title screen.

Gameplay: The button configuration are a bit different from the first one. Left analog stick is to move around. L1 to perform Devil Trigger. R1 is to lock on the nearest enemy. Square is to shoot, X is to jump, O is to roll, and triangle is to swing your melee weapon. Pushing down on the left analog stick (L3) switches your target cursor to the next enemy. Pushing O near a wall allows both characters to run on them. Unfortunately it's useless. Just about every level you go through takes place outdoors or wide-open areas.

Dante and Lucia's combos are performed the same way, but obviously look very different and very cool. Dante uses a standard sword with two handguns (the legendary Ebony and Ivory) while Lucia uses dual curve blades that look like scimitars and has infinte silver throwing daggers. Alastor and Ifrit are gone without an explanation. There is an upgrade system by activating the Statue Of Time found throughout the game. Each enemy you kill drops red orbs which then buys upgrades for you melee and range weapons. Each arsenal can be upgraded to multiple levels. The higher the level the higher the price of red orbs. The downside is that there is no cosmetic effect. Your sword doesn't get bigger if you upgrade from level 1 to 5. Your guns don't shoot fireballs or anything. They do higher damage, but that's about it which is kind of a letdown. It would be nice to actually SEE the difference.

For those of you who've played DMC1 to death you'll be disappointed with the gameplay. The moves are done slower than the predecessor. In DMC1 you could be in middle of a sword-swinging combo then in a blink of an eye roll away to safety. In the sequel you're not as fast and agile. You usually have to stop swinging before performing any acrobatic moves. I think Capcom went for more style then gameplay. Probably the biggest problem with this game is that it's ridiculously easy. Easy for everyone not just hardcore DMC fans. Enemies pop up and do literally nothing. There is a particular boss who I killed just by standing in one spot unloading handgun bullets at it. I think he was confused.

Replay: Completing both Dante and Lucia's game on normal unlocks new costumes for them and hard mode. Hard mode is what the default difficulty SHOULD'VE been. Bosses and demons you encounter actually pose a threat and they perform moves never seen on normal. Their vitality is increased which allows you to do more combo whereas in normal they die too quickly. Finishing hard mode on Dante's disc unlocks Trish. Yes. Trish from DMC1. She comes equip with both handguns and Sparda!! All her moves are executed the same way as the first game. A nice touch by Capcom. Finishing hard mode with both characters unlock Must Die mode where everyone you fight has the ability to go into their own Devil Trigger. Quite insane.

Overall I wasn't as disappointed as everyone else. Maybe because I wasn't expecting much. It's a solid action game. Maybe worth at least a rental.

Good, not great

Personally, I found this game quite entertaining simply for it's mindless slashing and blasting. I was expecting a bit more in the way of a story line however, it was virtually non-existent. But even with a lack of any interesting story line I can't really complain about this game. The graphics were excellent and it played as flawlessly as the first installment. The new character may have even been more fun to control than Dante himself. I did find this game rather easy, so you might want to rent first. All in all a solid title.

Horrible Story

Dante was really cool in the first Devil May Cry and I think I was just so caught off guard by his cool moves that the story line didn't matter that much, that's not to say it wasn't good. Now Devil May Cry 2 Dante has better moves, example, you can jump up turn up side down and shoot at enemies beneath you, running up the wall, running across the wall, shooting behind you, doing back flips to avoid enemy attacks (The evade feature in my opinion was really cool) and the list goes on. Now I already new Dante had cool moves and since this is a sequal his moves had to be improved upon and they were but the story line sucks, basically almost all the sounds to this game don't fit. Also some camera angles in the game only allow you to see Dante shooting his gun at mysterious enemies. The game was cool and was fun to play but it could of been done way better, unlike normal awesome games that could of been improve upon but not done better.
