Devil May Cry... Cool Action Game!!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 3

I thought Devil May Cry 2 was one of the best, if not the best action games I personally have ever played. Graphics are superb, gameplay is off the hook, and more style than the original. I heard a lot of people say that the game didn't have a good story and it was too short. Well name one person that goes to see an action movie for the story. It don't happen! And the game is not short, although some of the bosses were ridiculously easy. If there is anything wrong with DMC2, it's Dante's trash-talking. He just dosen't have the attitude like he did in the first one. But other than that, DMC2 is a great game. Highly Recomended for those of you who like a cool action game.

A Lousy-looking Letdown

To fans of DMCry 1, this game will be a disappointing shock. The inventiveness and really beautiful design of the first aren't here. Gameplay is shoot-stab-jump. The colors don't pop, there's a lot of gray, many of the settings are modern apartment buildings, not the lushly colored twisting tunnels and castle dungeons of the first. Amazing somebody would devalue the franchise this much just to make a $$$. Replay the first game.

Some gamers may cry as well...

When I first saw DMC2 in action, I was thinking to myself, "How could a game like this go wrong? There's nothing to worry about..." But when I got the final product myself, I was a bit dissapointed. Why? I'll explain why in this review.

Well, first of all, the first Devil May Cry was a huge sucess; it's gameplay was awesome, and so were it's sound and graphics. Capcom did a nice job here. The only thing I thought was lacking from it was the weak storyline. That's just me.

But back to 2.
The game seems a bit changed from the original; some of these changes are extremeley disapointing. Here are some prime examples: You cannot buy new moves anymore. Nope. No Stinger Lvl. 2 (there is a .... Lvl. 1) no Air Raid, no Kick13... Hardly any of the moves Dante learned from the first are here now. Heck, NO DEVIL ARMS from the first game make their return in the second. Yep, so that means no Alastor OR Ifrit. Awww... Uh, well actually there are, but I wouldn't wanaa spoil anything for you guys. (Note that an old companion returns as a secret character too!). Fortuntaley though, Dante's twin handguns, Ebony and Ivory are back, so is the Shotgun, and there are now some new, cool sub-machine guns! Whoa. The Grenadegun is out, and a Missile Launcher is it's replacement. Not bad at all.

But more.
The games story and dialogue are just plain bad. Basically, Dante is hired to check out the island of Dummary, and apparently a guy named Arius wants to make it into a devil's playground. It's up to Dante to stop him, and the 2nd playable character, Lucia, is here for play as well. She isn't that good of a character herself, and her game is quite short. She does, however, have 2 underwater levels, which aren't in first person view anymore. Oh yeah, speaking of shortness, the whole game in all, is pretty short. And my God, "Devils never cry" is just a plain, lame line.

I would want to type more, but I'm sure you get the point. Devil May Cry 2 is okay, but not THAT good, like it's predeccesor. If you're a hardcore DMC fan, go ahead. Buy it. I'd say there's even a small chance you might even like it as much as the first.

My Opinion.....

You've most likely read the reviews that have gone into great detail about every aspect of this game, so I won't go into any of that. My short opinion of this game is that it was rushed by Capcom to get it out and make a quick buck. Simply, it is just a boring game that is only average. I know a lot of people said the first game had a bad plot (which I didn't agree with) so I figured they were just saying the same about the sequel. I've watched stuff on mid-day TV more interesting than this. Bad looks and horrid controls just make it worse. Even if you are a hardcore DMC fan (like me) I would still suggest renting this game before buying.

Dante's back... and he's got some company!

Finally, the long-awaited sequel to the hit game "Devil May Cry" is finally out. Dante has returned and , although I didn't think it was possible, he's even more bad... than ever! Plus, there's a new character joining Dante in this new adventure; her name is Lucia (and ooohhhh baby she's caliente!) The only downside though is that Dantes' old sidekick demons, Alastor and Ifrit, are not around this time, but Dante does have a new devil form of his own and so does Lucia. The game also has an enhanced Devil Trigger (I'll let you find out about it yourself when you play the game). Oh yeah, there's one other thing: Trish from the previous game is not around either, and neither is Dante's old sword Force Edge.
But, at least Dante does have a new sword called Rebellion (and later in the game you get two more swords that serve special purposes). However, Dante does have his two twin pistols Ebony and Ivory, and later he acquires a new shotgun, missile launcher, and two sub-machine guns. Lucia also gets her own new weapons, but I won't spoil it for you. The story is better this time around, with more frequent cut-scenes with amazing graphics (don't worry though, they're not really long like in the Metal Gear Solid games). There are new demons to face off against- some of the enemies though aren't demons at all; even some of the old demons from the previous game appear to challenge our two heroes: Sargassos, Blades, and the Phantom. Oh boy, and wait 'till you see the final boss: it's crazy! This game is just as action-packed as the first, with all-new moves and items, so if you liked the first one don't hesitate to get this one! ...... what, you're still here? Go get the game now,...!!! You don't know what you're missing out on!

Great Game!!!

This game is one of my favorite games now. It has a good plot, cool bosses, and Dante has double jump from the begining!! I love this game but have to admit that it doesn't have much suspense, like tomb raider, or DMC1, but it still has a spooky feeling. I think this game's biggest flaw is the camera. It doesn't allow you to change the view manually, which is quite a pain and sometimes you cant even see Dante (or lucia). I dont know why you other people reviewing this game compare it to the first DMC if you say they are nothing alike. This game is great, regardless of how good the last one was.

Graphics- 4.0/5.0
Gameplay- 4.0/5.0
Camera- 2.5/5.0

Overall- 4.5

I can't understand why people expected the same path of the original DMC... It's just the same character with a new purpose! I haven't finished it yet and I don't regret purchasing it, it's simple: the moves are awesome, demons are creepy, and let me tell you that they improved the graphics. The flaws (in my opinion) are: MAP view is not very helpful, not very difficult (but you can change the level mode), so you can't really complain about it. After checking out some reviews I had some doubts, but I guess I'm a real fan of Dante and Capcom... do the reviewers know anything about real games? Trust me on this one.

I have not beatten that first one sadly. But the second i have and with both CH yes the game did have some cool scenes,, cant complain, most pepople say that the second was way better. Then i can tell you right now that they are wrong, i can also tell you that they not have beatin the first, otherwise they would not say that. But no Dout the second is a good game...

This story did not affect the story like you think that it would. They still can make the DevilMayCry 3 with the second one not out. Its story is not the biggest thing youll see. What capcom tryed to do is make more game play like the gun action and sword play, but i got used to the point where Donte running on walls and the bad ass style... I found out that he talked 79% more than he did in the second. In the game he dose not talk alot, its aways that girl bittchin around.

More or less you like the game its fun if you like the seroius and the gun action and sword play. I recommend this game if your looking foword for the THIRD one.

Excellent Game

Ok, for those who said they beat the game in 5 hours.. What level was your weapon at.. 2? lol, did you even bother upgrading them to 4-5? that would take much more than 5 hours, because youd have to collect much more orbs. Also try the game in "must die mode" Don't just play it in easy mod and claim "OHH THIS GAME IS EASY I BEAT IT IN 5 HOURS". Also some people said this game is all about jumping and shooting, Are you a f***ing Newb? You can melee the enemies too, oh and the walking on the wall sin't useless.. it's more "stylish" I didin't just press triangle randomly , i learned the combos.. here's anotehr part of the game you should try.. The only things i didin't like about this game is the lack of monsters and the lack of diffrent monsters.. also the underwater levels, wtf is that, that's juste lame but.. oh well. the 2 cd / 2 chars thing is fun, the story.. the only thing i understood is that you have to kill demons.

It's a great game buy it, don't be a newb and play it easy mod without upgrading your weapon to 3-4 and without learning the combos!

Welllll...not as good as the first...but...

Still a great game. The graphics still floor me and wellll...the camera angles still not good..sorry. However, the creatures within the game were different, but, you have to give out a arm and a leg for items to stay alive. I am a huge fan of this game, however, i do hope the next will be better.
