A Fabulous Game -- From Start to Finish

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

Although I haven't played Final Fantasy IX yet, it's a safe bet that Majora's Mask will get my vote for best game of the year. Though it lacks the staoryline driving Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask comes blazing with so much to do you're not even going to remember Ocarina of Time.

Majora's Mask is basically composed of dozens and dozens of different side quests instead of just one linear story line. Quite simply, you're free to do almost whatever you want whenever you want in any way you want to do it. The graphics are pretty much the same. The expansion pack is required although I haven't noticed much of a diffenece besides perhaps less slowdown from Ocarina of Time. The gameplay remains just as rock solid as before. Control is superb. If you're a Zelda vetran you'll notice some classic tunes from previous Zeldas in Majora's Mask. There are a few new tunes, some old music from Ocarina of Time, and a few classic sounds you're sure to be farmiliar with.

I really can't reccomend this game enough. Some may be disappointed in the extreme similarity to Ocarina of Time.. but why change a good thing?

As enjoyable as OoT,but it is so different.

First off,I love this game. It is as enjoyable as Ocarina of Time, but for some reason it is so different that I do not feel like I am playing a true Zelda game here.

And what happened to this game being a collectors item.Oot had a limited quantity of gold cartridges, and today it is worth alot of money,I would know because I own OoT's gold cartridge. But it is like the people over at nintendo just slapped the "collectors edition" label on the Majora's Mask box just to sell the game.Nintendo also said that Majora's Masks' gold cartridges were supposed to come in limited quantities, but it seems like gold is the only color this game will ever come in,so it is really not a collectors item here people. I really wanted to be one of the 10,000 gamers to own both collectible copies of both games,(10,000 gold cartridges of zelda:OoT were made, and 10,000 gold cartridges of zelda:MM were supposed to be sold,so that means 10,000 people)but I guess that the only valuable one will be OoT.

This game also has nothing to do with Zelda,Hyrule,or the Triforce. Why put "The legend of zelda" on this game,or links awakening is the game has nothing to du with those main factors.

But the reason I gave this game 5 stars was because it was possibly one of the hardest videogames that I ever played. I mean, this game took me about 1 month to beat, considering the fact that it was the only game I played during that month, and i liked that. The only other games that kept me playing it for a straight month were DK 64,and OoT.

I also do not see why everybody whines about how few dungeons there are, only four. But let me tell you,These dungeons are so big and well put together that it will take you a good 3 hours to beat them(besides woodfall temple),that means without the strategy guide. And I do dare to say this, but I have to say that I believe that the Stone Tower temple is by far the most long, difficult dungeon in any zelda game. That's right, even harder then the water temple of OoT.

All together I love this game, but it also is the most different game in the series. If you buy this game,be prepared for one of the longest, most challenging games the 64 has to offer.

Again Another Awesome RPG

Of course, Nintendo has come out with another hit. I have played more N64 RPG's than anyone I know and I have to admit, this is one of the best! It brings the classic Zelda strategys and adds new ones. The graffics are 10 times better and sharper than the "Ocarina of time" but has a weaker story line. Still, I must say its just as good. The cool thing about it is the time traveling. Every three days the moon crashes down to Earth and you must defeat all 4 temples using your ocarina to travel through time. The hard thing is to fully complete 100% of the game you have to have all the masks. Get all 20 "happy" masks and you get the final "transformation" mask. Happy masks are earned by helping people in the town and all around termina. This game is well worth your money!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!

Amazing with a suprise in every repeat!

This is truly an impressive game! Although many say this is the worst Shigeru has ever made in a Zelda game, I love this on top of all others. Although this game is repeated because of the 3 day repeat, I found that every time i traveled back, i was able to find something new to do. What other game designer can make three days, exactly the same, have so much differentiation between them. truly a work of art.

A decent Zelda game

This is a side story in the Zelda series. It is strange, and nowhere near as good as Ocarina of Time, but it is oddly amusing. It is a lot of fun to collect the masks and figure out what you're supposed to do with them. Get all the masks before you go to the moon to reveal a very cool mask that is useful in the final Boss battle! It is also fun to roll around as a Goron, Fly in the air as a Deku sprout, and play the guitar and swim as a Zora. Your fairy, Belle(or Tatl in the English version) can get a bit annoying however, even more so than Navi was. The time limit is also annoying - you can't take more than an hour to beat each dungeon or you have to start all over. Definitely get this game if you like weird stuff or just Zelda in general. I must warn you, however - Princess Zelda is not a part of this at all, and it doesn't really have much to do with the vague but existent Zelda storyline. If you have a choice between this and Ocarina of Time - get Ocarina of Time.

Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Nintendo does it again! A game hard enough to be challenging but not so hard as to be frustrating. And a lot of lessons to be learned about life, a trademark of the Zelda series. The basic game seems smaller, more straightforward, with a ton of side quests. Warning--Not as many chickens as in the past, sadly. I don't believe it is a rehash of The Ocarina of Time; I thought it was different enough to be a brand new game with some familiar components. The constant restarting of the three-day time period took a little getting used to; but that's one of the things that makes it different! Zelda rules!

Once is enough

Firstly, I truly feel Majora's Mask 3 1/2 *'s, but decided to round up.

Legend Of Zelda:Majora's Mask, is a followup to the smash hit Ocarina of Time. The control scheme is the same, the graphics are better (4mb expansion required), the music is more to the original Zelda games, and the story is quite original, and bizarre at that.

The game pits you in a mirrored world of Hyrule, called Ternmina, upon which LInk discovers that the moon will crash, lest he do something to prevent it. Then the skull kid who's commanding the moon turns you into a Deku Scrub... Sound interesting? The story is quite intriguing, and a fresh change from the old captured princess and triforce. You have a three day time period in which to complete a certain task, and then restart the day, saving the game. Some people would arrgue that this three day period isn't long enough. I say it's too long. The game has a song that can slow time down, when what it really needed was a song that speeded it up. Certain tasks must be performed at certain times of the day, leaving gaps of sometimes five minutes between each event. Lots of times I found myself leaving the room to vacuum or something and then come back. And when you have to do the series of events over and over (Anju and Kafei comes to mind) it can be a real pain.

Also, the idea of turning into different characters (Goron, Zora and Deku Sprout) seems more Banjo-Kazooie-esque than Zelda. But it does add a new twist to the gameplay.

People have said that the four dungeons aren't enough. REst assured, they, along with all the sidequests and mask collecting are enough to keep you going.

This being said, all this adds up to a wonderful adventure, with lovely eye and ear candy, but just isn't as fun as the first one, and sometimes, not very fun at all.

This game will give you a long run for its cost (quite a bit if you don't own the expansion) but, after accomplishing it once, unlike other adventure and platforms, I didn't have the urge to explore the world of Termina again.

Too much useless time gaps, too little adventure.

Holy COW

Ocarina was better

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, actually deserves 3 and a half stars in my opinion. Many people thought that Majora's mask was better than Ocarina of Time, however I tend to disagree. For anyone who's familiar with the Ocarina of Time, this is similar, so here's the breakdown.

Game Control- its the same as Ocarina, use the C buttons to equipt items, sword, shield, Z to Target or change view, etc. The ingame menu is mostly the same, except there's an added screen for masks. Skulltulas are back, and as well as many items. Now you can hold 6 jars, though. There are some new sword attacks to add.

Graphics- the graphics are also the same as with Ocarina, nothing unusual.

Sound- the sound is okay nothing stands out or is exceptionally good, as also with Ocarina.

Story- the story is hard to pick up at first, as there are several objectives that you must accomplish in the first 20 minutes of play. In Majora's Mask, you have 72 hours till the moon falls, and not 72 in real time. (An hour goes by every minute or so) So, you use the Ocarina to travel back to day 1, or slow time down or speed it up. Playing the Song of Time, starts you back in Clock Town, at day 1, plus it saves. Now this may seem cool, but money cannot be saved, unless put in the bank prior to starting over. All inventory is lost, and some events have to be continuously repeated. Even though there are only 4 main dungeons, having to start over at day one every 40 minutes quickly makes this game repetitive, boring, and lacking fun. Sure, it's "innovative", but could definitly use some inprovement. So, it's best to try the game yourself, but don't get over excited.

Ocarina of time was much better

the reason i don't like majora's mask is because it has a ridiculous story line. first of all you have to do all this junk to get certain things. plus you have to stop the moon from smashing into the earth that is the stupidest thing i have ever heard.this game is not loyal to all the previous zelda games nor does it have any returning characters such as princess zelda. ocarina of time is without a doubt better than majora's mask.
