Legend Of Zelda 2,My review

I have played tons of ZELDA games their all fun but unique in a way like in Ocarnia of Time Link was a ball and all the charactors were the bat so it seems as if he wased pushed around.I would have to say it seems fun.

Heres the story

Link is riding through the forest on Epona about 3 months after Ganons defeat. Two fairys come out of no where and startle the horse.Link is thrown off and his lights are knocked out. Then Link wakes up Stalkid is there with Majoras Mask on his face.He finds the Ocarnia and steals it and rides away on Epona.Stalkid is knocked off and runs into another dimension Link follows him on Epona and soon finds out he is in Termina and the moon is falling so Link sets out to save that world.

It's great!

Even thought it similar to Ocarina of Time, it's still very good 'cos it's like an added on bit to that(but still a game in it's own right), rather than a completley new game. The masks are a cool idea, everyone I know liked the Happy Mask shop before so having 10 or so masks is a good idea. And the graphics are alot better than before, and as the controls are the same as Ocarina of Time you can just play it straight away and not spending ages trying to work out how to press the buttons! One more thing...I love that it's at last not about fighting Ganondorf and rescueing Zelda(at least I hope it isn't) because that got boring after 3 games of killing him only to find in the next game he's alive again!

Slightly repetative

I absolutely LOVE this game, but there is one thing I don't like quite as much. Since you only get THREE days, you can't beat the game all in one go. Instead, every single time you want to save you have to play the Song of Time. Sure, that's no problem, but that takes you back to day 1. YOU GO THROUGH THE SAME THING AGAIN AND AGAIN! It's rather anoying, but the game is otherwise AWESOME!

A ... disappointment

I've been a Nintendo fan since the old days of the original Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong, and the Zelda games have never failed to live up to their ongoing legacy as deeply challenging and thoughtful adventure & exploration games. Majora's Mask seeks to enhance these qualties in ways that don't quite work. The "3-day" time limit is not so annoying as the constant need to travel back in time and deal with puzzles that were reset after you already completed them but didn't get far enough to do anything with them. You can probably already imagine the frustration this causes. I loved the previous Zelda games for the reason that they allowed you to take more time in exploring complex environments and solving brain-racking puzzles, but this game allows for no such pleasures. And it's doubly hard to get into in the first place for those of us who are too busy to play it for at least 5 hours a day. A save feature like the one employed in "Ocarina of Time" could have made "Majora's Mask" much more perfect, really, but the developers decided this time around that such a feature would be too easy on those of us who don't have the kind of nonstop time periods we need to get through a game of this magnitude. I can't fault the depth of the puzzles that must be solved; the way they are all so interconnected is uncommonly intelligent as far as video games go, but having to constantly return to the start of Link's 3-day time limit (insofar as I've played the game, anyway) serves more to damage the intricacy of those puzzles than to help them, because there seems to be no way to avoid having to constantly redo a lot of vital activities. Frustrating; very frustrating. If I had to choose one Zelda 64 game over the other, it would be "Ocarina of Time" in a heartbeat. A noble effort though, Nintendo!

The Good The Bad and the Ugly

As with anything, Majora's Mask has it's good parts and bad parts. I'll start with the bad first.

First and foremost, this cart is expensive. The game itself is ... (a higher end priced game), but there is also an expansion pack required on top of that which can cost another .... So you want to be sure you want it before you get it. M.M. is also much more difficult than the previous Ocarina of Time. You should definitely plan on buying a players guide to go with it.

Probably the thing that stands out most once you get past the sheer cost is the new time limiting factor of game play. As the story goes, you have three days to finish whatever sidequest or dungeon you are currently on before you have to play the Song of Time and start over again. When this happens, only side quests and dungeons are saved. You lose everything else. This has a tendency to make the player feel rushed and may keep them from taking the time to make the most of this game.

The time limit does have an up side to it however. It forces the game to be extremely compartmentalized. You have a specific goal to reach in your time of playing, you reach it, save the game, then when you come back to it, you move on to a different goal. You always know what you want to get accomplished in each three day period. Therefore, game play is very goal oriented and you know when you're making progress.

The graphics are, much better than Ocarina of time. The cinematics are amazing and often very humorous. Link is also given a set of new abilities that are always fun getting a handle on. The last word is that this game is fun. I've found it very hard to put down it's so addictive. If you can justify the cost, it all boils down to a really good game, especially if you're already a Zelda fan.

Link's at it again!!

As a big fan of the "Legend Of Zelda" series, I can assure "Majora's Mask", the sequel to the great "Ocarina of time" is a sure canditate for being game of the year:2000.

If you have played Ocarina of time, Major'as Mask will be much more interesting since you meet up with almost, if not all the characters you saw back in Hyrule, the world of Termina, where this story takes place, is very much like a parallel Universe to Hyrule and Link's world... excluding that Termina will cease to exist with Link in it in 72 hours if you don't help Link stop the wierd red-eyed grinning moon from crashing, and taking Majora's Mask away from the Skull Kid.

I beat the game in 7 days... 7 of the most fun days I've ever had.. The game isn't very long, unless you complete all the Bomber's notebook entries, all and all, it's about 70 hours of gameplay approx. Major'as Mask reminds me of that old movie Groundhog day, where the same day repeats itself over and over again... Link will have to live the same 3 days many times in order to save Termina's and his own hide...

I give the game 5 stars altough it's kinda short, but the almost interminable sidequests brings it up... a MUST have for all N64 users, especiall if you owned Ocarina of Time...

The darkest in the Zelda catalogue

If only that damn site IGN didn't take my idea first. They described this game as the Empire Strikes Back in Zelda and it's true. It's more darker, more gloomy and at times it can even be depressing. Unlike Ocarina of Time which oozed coolness and wonderment or Wind Waker which was cheery and uplifting due to its look, Majora's Mask is quite different than other installments but in no way is it bad, it's just different.

Story: I always considered this game more like an epilogue to Ocarina of Time rather than a full sequel. At the start of the game directly taking place after Ocarina, Link is in a forest and gets ambushed by Skull Kid and is turned into a Deku(they look like tiny trees with a long mouth) and enters a portal. From here Link finds himself in Termina, a land that is gonna be destroyed by a falling moon in 3 days. So it's up to Link once again to save the day using the powers of time and this weird masks.

Graphics: Reviewing this game in 2005 with such games as Metroid Prime, Halo and Metal Gear Solid 3 of course puts Majora to shame but remembering the graphics at that time, it's more of an extension of Ocarina only darker and not as vibrant. Due to maybe the Expansion Pak or just the game itself, the game does have framerate issues and some rough textures. Beware that the Gamecube re-release on the Collector's Edition sometimes freezes the game.

Gameplay: All Zelda games pretty much to this day revolved around some kind of "gimmick": in Ocarina it was time travelling, Wind Waker was controlling the wind, Minish Cap was the ability to shrink to thumbnail size and the Oracle series revolved around time travelling and season changing. Majora's Mask revolves around, yep you guessed it, masks. Link with the benefit of 24 masks(25 if you get all 24), Link can turn into different characters such as the Deku race, Goron race(big tough creatures with a taste for rocks) and the Zora race(fish people roughly). Or there's different masks like Postman, Ghost, or Bunny mask which makes him run faster.

The other aspect for the 3rd time in Zelda's history revolves around time travelling, once in Ocarina and the other in Oracle of Ages. Only this time it's different. You see the game's clock makes 3 days take about roughly 50 minutes before the moon crashes so with the Ocarina you can go back to Day 1 and start over, even make the time go slower so you have more time. This is quite annoying to say the least since your funds, arrows and bombs revert to zero if you go back to Day 1, your items are intact, your extra stuff isn't. And also you could be in the middle of a dungeon to be really close only to be on the final day and have to reset to Day 1, which incidentally cancels any progress you made in the dungeon.

Not to say the game is bad(it's just slightly hard) but it's quite enjoyable to go through, if you don't mind it's tone anyway.

For all of you Die-hard Zelda fans, you will not be disappointed!

This game has all the familiarity of Zelda - Ocarina of Time with some extra challenges. Take the gameplay of Ocarina of Time, add in the complexity of the puzzles, and finialize it with the time-travel adventures from the movie "Groundhog Day".

I cannot say enough good things about this game! I'm 25 years old, and have been a loyal fan of Zelda since the Original Zelda game for the Nintendo game system.

Good Luck!

This is one of the best games to come out this year. The graphics are amazing. The game is challenging. If you liked Ocarina of Time, you will definitly like Majora's Mask. If you could only get one game this year, it would have to be The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

ALMOST AS GOOD AS OCARINA

ILL START OFF BY SAYING IF YOU ENJOYED OCARINA OF TIME YOULL PROBABLY LIKE THIS ONE TO. THE PLAY CONTROL IS EXACTLY THE SAME, AND THE SETUP IS ALMOST THE SAME, THAT HAVING BEEN SAID ILL GO ON. OCARINA OF TIME WAS, IN MY OPINION, A GAMING EXPERIENCE LIKE NO OTHER. IT ENGROSSED YOU( I PERSONALLY HAVE HAD DREAMS ABOUT IT). AND IT WOULD BE NEAR IMPOSSIBLE FOR MAJORA'S MASK TO DO THE SAME. THE STORY LINE THOUGH IS VERY INTERESTING AND SO ARE A LOT OF THE NEW CHARACTERS AND MASKS. I LIKE PLAYING AS A GORON, ZORA, AND EVEN A DEKU SCRUB. THE DUNGEONS ARE ALSO GOOD, A LITTLE EASIER THAN OCARINA BUT STILL COOL. THE NEW WEAPONS ALSO ARE NICE LIKE THE GREAT FAIRY'S SWORD AND THE BOMBS ARE MORE POWERFUL. BUT WHILE OCARINA FELT LIKE AN EPIC QUEST THIS GAME FEELS MORE LIKE A SIDE MISSION. SOME OF THE STORY FEELS LIKE AN EPIC, BUT IT DOESNT HOLD. DONT GET ME WRONG MAJORA'S MASK IS STILL A PRETTY ADDICTIVE AND ENGROSSING GAME. THE SECOND COMPLAINT IS THAT SOMETIMES THERE IS A CONTRADICTUION OF MOOD, WHEN THINGS GET FRIGHTENING IN IKANA VALLEY, THEY PUT IN LITTLE ANNOYING COMMENTS TO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER. THE TIME LIMIT ALSO GETS EXTREEMLY ANNOYING AT TIMES. AND THE SAVING OPTIONS ARE OVERLY CONFUSIG, READ THEM CAREFULLY! BUT THESE ARE JUST MINOR FLAWS IN AN OVERLY SATISFYING GAME.
