Not good, not good at all

At first, allow myself to say that this game will be a real dissapointment if you were enchanted by the splendid Ocarina of Time. "Majora's Mask" just re-uses the brilliant game-engine from the master himself, mr. Shigeru. And, for those who not know this, it's not even made by Miyamoto. He only supervised a bit here and there and nodded "yes" or "no" when needed. And that's it. It's a shame Nintendo made this sequel such an uninteresting game and, reminding from Ocarina, it's far beneath quality. One of the most interesting aspects from the original was that you had all the time of the world to explore, and now, you have to do everything in 45 minutes, and travel back, again and again. I've played the Jap-version, and I can say, without a doubt that this is by far the most uninteresting game from 2000. Try to resist it if you want to avoid any sad feelings after completing the game. It may be a truly emotional experience to play the game, but it's hardly original and as boring as watching a Robbie Williams-videoclip. Save yourself 6800 yen or err ... 50 bucks and buy something else. Shame Nintendo ...

Ocarina Of Time Was Soooo Much Better

This game I don't think lived up to the Legend Of Zelda standard. The gameplay was just as good, maybe even better than Ocarina Of Time but the plot was just too horrible! I can understand a mask that makes a guy evil and is now bent on causing chaos throughout the land, but did they really need to make the moon fall? I think they should have had more like he was making new masks and brainwashing people with his powers, then I would actually try finishing the game. And this game is way too short. They should have made it at least 3/4 as long as Final Fantasy X. But they didn't so instead they make a bunch of cheesy side-quests to get everything you need. I did like the masks idea though. That and those funny little monkeys in Woodfall. I could laugh at them for hours. But anyway, I've had it almost three years now and I'm not even to the final temple yet. That's just about how boring it is. Now I shall give it a final rating.

Entertainment 4.0
Plot 2.5

Gameplay 8.5
Sountrack 5.5

Replay Value 2.5

Overal Rating 5.0

So that's just my opinion. And if you don't agree, fine. And if you want to play a good Zelda game, play Ocarina Of Time. And if you've already beaten Ocarina Of Time, then I guess you just out of luck.

BOTTOM LINE: Bad plot, bad game.

Zelda majora's mask, I think is a great game because the story is so good. The only thing I don't like is that you only have three days until the moon falls. You play the song of time, though. But that erases your event items.I realy like the songs! so,I give this game five stars.

I have played every game in this series dating back to the mid-80s. I have loved each one more than its predecessor... that is until Majora's Mask. As an adult with kids and a full-time job, my opportunity to find an hour or two to play video games is limited (about once a week). Because this game involves an inane spin-cycle of three days, I could never play the game and come back to it later. Even with the guide book, it was difficult to determine where you were, what you had accomplished, and what was about to happen that day. The action, adventures, and puzzles were pretty boring; so I just stopped playing.
Long live Ocarna of Time! The greatest action-adventure ever!

Quality game, but not the good old Zelda feel.

I'll say from the start that I have not put all that much time into the game. I've been a big Zelda fan since the first, and I continue to stay loyal to Nintendo becuase of Zelda. Being a fan of medieval, mystical times, I really enjoy the whole Zelda feel. However, Majora's Mask has the face of Link, but it does not have the same style. With this change of mood, I find the game far less tolarable. Additionally, saving has become a hassle--when you start playing you are committed to playing for a good hour or more if you don't want to lose your progress. The repeating days seemed like a good idea at first, but it becoems very annoying. Since the game is not quite as linear are the others, there are more chances to mess up--that is, you give away an item you were supposed to use elsewhere, and you don't get a second change. While that may be more realistic, I'm not playing video games for realism.

Ultimately, Majora's Mask just isn't as fun as the others. It reminds me of the switch from a bird's eye view to a side-scroller from the first to the second game. The side-scrolling just didn't work for the game. Similarly, this whole new world and plot doesn't work for the name Zelda.

It's a quality game (i.e., it's developed well), but if you're looking for the good old Zelda feel, I'd wait until the next one.

It is sad to say the least that what made this game horrible was the fact that there was time added!! How does it ever make sense that you have temples lodead with many things to get not to mention going into ten different rooms just to get to an enemy yet you only have 72 hours game time to complete the task?! Not to mention side quests and loads of things to do. The sotry line was cool and the graphics were great but this comes nothing close to Ocarina Of Time which I enjoyed sooo much! In fact I think Ocarina Of Time was waaaaaay better then this. If you are going to make a game make the ememies hard and the task difficult but don't add time. Picture if you were half way through a temple and were almost done then time runs out!! That would make you want to pull your hair!! Thankfully from the looks of future games I have seen they did not make that fatal mistake again! I recomend to buy Orcarina Of Time better!

Tsk Tsk Tsk Nintendo...

When I first bought The Legend of Zelda: OoT I was amazed at what a wonderful game it was. Full of adventure and having to solve huge dungeons. My problem is with this new release of The Legend of Zelda: MM, wouldn't the time limit conflict with the fun. I mean in the last version you could take your time and not be mangled by and time limits, unless you were diving for rupees.

I think they should have kept the same idea with this version.

Ex. One of the Sages has died and you must find so many pieces of the Coin to Bring him back to life. But the Pieces would be extremely hard to find, having to go through numerous dungeons and puzzles just to get one piece of the coin. And may I add NO TIME LIMIT (and also new moves, screen layout, etc...).

I havn't played the game yet but by reading these posts I don't even want to rent it. Just mentioning the word "Time-Limit" makes me mad.

I don't like being rushed, I like playing a game at my own pace. I pity those people who really LOVE the game it shows they are not real gamers. A real gamer likes to play and play how long and when he wants to. The time-limit factor in this new release diminishes the whole exploring and just takeing your time point of the game.

With that 50$ I'll put it towards my saving for PSX2!

Who agrees with me?

That was pretty much my initial reaction when I completed the game. I mean honestly! There are 4 dungeons/castles in this game. 4!! What the hell is that about?! Every single Zelda game that came before this one had three or four dungeons before the main adventure would start and Link would begin his REAL quest and that would usually include another 8 or 9 dungeons or so. FOUR?!!
I mean, I was just getting warmed up and then it's over!? And the only thing you can entertain yourself with in between these FOUR extremely easy to locate and extremely easy to complete dungeons is a bunch of brain teasers and petty little minor tasks that by the way pretty much just repeated what had already been done and redone in Ocarina of time! The same characters, the female tribe of red haired thieves, the gorgons, the Zoras, riding the pony, killing spiders, playing the ocarina.... Come on! Been there done that! If we absolutely have to live with a ripoff of Ocarina Of Time they could at least give us some new dungeons or something, but no! We just get some very annoying time system that leaves you totally unsatisfied when you complete any of the task presented to you as everything you do is undone a few hours later!
An almost original idea that is sadly designed to just piss people off!
I could have lived with it if the game would change form and become the real zelda game we all expected when you've completed the FOUR dungeons, but then it just stops. And doesn't give you any satisfying enemy or plot or conclusion. I thougt for sure the guy who sells the masks would turn out to be a bad guy, I mean check out his psycho eyes when he yells at Link about the dark powers and all that. Guess not....
I gave this game one star for the idea of changing into other creatures like Zoras, Gorgons and Deku Shrub (though that last one was really annoying!) and a second star because I'm a sucker for Zelda games having played them since the original on the ol' 8-bit machine. But man, am I dissapointed... and FOUR dungeons?!! What the hell were they thinking?!! What do they take us for? I complete four dungeons before I have my breakfast! And that's on a BAD day! Sheesh! Oh well, here's hoping Zelda will be cool on the CUBE. Sigh....

Doesn't live up to the predesessor...

I just purchased this game, and after a few hours of play, there are many things that I can say are very flawed in the primary construction of this game. First of all, the graphics and sounds (which are both repeatative and annoying) are of no better quality than the first, though there is a two or three year release date difference. Second, the object is to stop the suicidal moon from crashing into the planet. This must be accomplished in three days time. The hours tick away in something like 2 or 3 minutes a piece and days go by far to quickly. Most annoying is the reset function that is built into this time scheme. Everytime you travel in time back to the first day of the cycle, everything you have done, sans the VERY important events, are all reset. So if you time is about to expire and you are in the middle of a quest, too bad, it all gets reset! All in all, not a bad game, but nothing near the original.

Kinda disappointed

I have been a BIG fan of the Zelda series going back to the original Legend of Zelda and Link games released in the late 80's. I was reintroduced to the LOZ with Ocarina of Time and was completely amazed by the game. In my opinion, Ocarina is the BEST video game ever. I have played it several times because I enjoy it so much.

My 7 Y O daughter and I counted down the days for the release of Majora's Mask. I knew from the first few times I sat down to play that I wasn't going to like it as much as Ocarina. In my opinion there are way too many things that you have to do that are totally unrelated to the plot of the game. It's a creative new format and I applaud the designers for trying to create a world totally different from Ocarina. I just hope they go back to the Ocarina format for the next game.

This is still a worthwhile purchase -- Zelda games are classic and even the disappointing ones are better than most other games. If you have to choose though -- definitely buy Ocarina, it is the better game.
