My son was in heaven waiting for this to arrive. When it arrived, he was broken hearted because the game requires an expansion pak to be played. He now has a game that is a paper weight.

A Strange Masterpiece

(This is the Gamecube Version)This is,without a doubt, the weirdest Zelda game. But luckily, the strangeness is what makes it good.I actually think it is better than the great Ocarina of Time. The story is cool.Link, after his great battle in the previous installment, sets off in search of a friend(Navi the fairy,I'm sure). While visiting the Lost Woods,he is attacked by a Skull Kid.Link follows the Skull Kid into the world of Termina, which is basically a backwards Hyrule.Skull Kid transforms Link into a Deku Scrub, and leaves Link with a very impatient fairy named Tatl.Link then runs into the Happy Mask Salesman, who tells him a mask, called Majora's Mask, has been stolen from him by Skull Kid.After searching for Skull Kid,Link finds that he has convinced the Moon(which has a face!)to crash into Clock Town,Termina's capital.Fortunately,Link grabs his stolen Ocarina of Time from the Skull Kid and plays the Song of Time.Everything then starts over, and from then on Link has three days to find a way to free the Four Giants, who are the only ones who can stop the moon from crashing.Weird story, huh? The gameplay is VERY different from Ocarina of Time. The most noticable difference is that there is a time limit(three days in Termina is about 72 minutes in real time). And the only way you can save is by playing the Song of Time. This is disastrous, since you lose rupees and arrows and stuff like that, and ALL puzzles in the dungeons go back to being unsolved. The other big difference is that you can gather masks, some of which turn you into different species. There are twenty masks to collect, and only three turn you into different creatures. The graphics are much improved over Ocarina of Time,as well as the puzzels. However the one flaw that I notice is there are few sidequests. But I forgive the designers, seen as there was only so much to do in a 72 minute game.If you have played Ocarina of Time, play this game.If you haven't play Ocarina of Time,THEN play this one.Good Luck to all!

The Cartridge did not appear to be in as good a shape as advertised. At first we had trouble getting it to work, but after several attempts, we did get it to work. It has worked okay since the initial problem.

good game, good graphics. Cool bosses and stays challenging. Old school zelda with up to date graphics. All around, a really good time.

Ignore the insults.

Please ignore the slanders leveled against this excellent game. I've played every Zelda in recent memory and this iteration ranks in the top. Yes, there is a limit of time, but it makes everything feel so much more real and urgent. The game gives you a typical Zelda world to explore. After the relatively short opening sequence you get get the ability to rewind time. This gives you all the time you need to see Termina. No, It isn't Hyrule, but that's one of the best things about it. I was glad to see a game with no Princess Zelda and no Gannon. The people who dislike this game seem to have the same attitude (and grammar skills) as a twelve year-old who can't hand in their homework on time. This game might have more dimensions than the last one (pun), but it only improves the solid Zelda Experience.

Both Sides of the Story

As you have probably seen going through the reviews prior to this, there are very differing opinions on this game, and so I am going to attempt to balance both of them out in this review.

First, I will go through a brief explanation of the storyline. You are Link (or however you want your character to be named), and after going away from Hyrule in search of "an invaluable friend", you run across a Skull Kid who does the polite injustice of stealing your ocarina and horse. Then, after that, he turns you into a Deku Scrub and you find yourself in Termina, the new land of Majora's Mask. The Happy Mask salesman tells you that the skull kid you ran into stole a mask from him that contains an immense amount of power, and that you only have 72 hours to get back the mask, or else the moon will crash into Termina, causing its terminal demise. (Sorry, bad pun.)

Quite a few people have complained about the fact that there is now a time limit, but to me, that just adds to the game. It makes it much more challenging than Ocarina of Time because you actually feel like you have to get something done or else something horrible will happen. Now, the fact that you lose everything you are carrying (not the weapons themselves, but all of the ammunition for them) is a big let-down, but it does add realism. You came into that game with nothing, and it's suiting that when you go back in time, you start out with that nothing again (except for the weapons and important items).

I have also seen some complaints about the fact that there are only four dungeons throughout the entire game (not including the final one on the Moon itself). Now, the game is hard enough with four, pretty complicated dungeons (not to mention if you don't figure them out in the 72 hour time period, you have to start them over completely), but if they had added even more, I'm afraid I would have to hurt someone. All of the dungeons in the game are pretty challenging and have puzzles that actually require some thought past the thought level of the Halo series. (Sorry Halo fans, but the puzzles aren't hard at all...)

Overall, Majora's Mask is a very good game, no matter what the anyone decides to say. If it wasn't in the Zelda series, the people that don't like it now, would probably like it. That's the way that the cookie crumbles.

Ocarina of time is 10 times better

Im a huge Zelda fan but this game was a complete dissapointment. first lets talk about the game play. you are sent on a 3 day trip to find a mask taken by a skull kid and you only get a limit of time which is like 1 hour whats up with that I mean just let use play with out worrieing about a time limit. Also by saving you have to find an owl and its a complicated saves process and why cant it be like Orcarina of time when you can save when you want. You cant even be adult Link. When you beat the game you get to use the Majoras mask but theres no point your done with the game. So there has to be one good thing about this game and it fits in a toaster. So go get Orcorina of time and not this

It is sad to say the least that what made this game horrible was the fact that there was time added!! How does it ever make sense that you have temples lodead with many things to get not to mention going into ten different rooms just to get to an enemy yet you only have 72 hours game time to complete the task?! Not to mention side quests and loads of things to do. The sotry line was cool and the graphics were great but this comes nothing close to Ocarina Of Time which I enjoyed sooo much! In fact I think Ocarina Of Time was waaaaaay better then this. If you are going to make a game make the ememies hard and the task difficult but don't add time. Picture if you were half way through a temple and were almost done then time runs out!! That would make you want to pull your hair!! Thankfully from the looks of future games I have seen they did not make that fatal mistake again! I recomend to buy Orcarina Of Time better!
