OUCH!

This game TOTALLY beats ocrana. Yes ocrana was good but warping so you could be a goron, Zora, and deku scrub. The new musical instruments are awesome. the new temple type things are lots harder than zelda. Though zelda is a kid you still get to ride epona though that stoupid deku scrup guy takes him away. This is a 5 star and I totally reacommend this game.

Not as good as Ocarina of Time

This game was good, but not as good as the original. After I ordered this game, I was extremely excited for it to arrive. When it finally came, though, I was disappointed. Let's start with the pros and cons.

Pros:
Mask concept is great
graphics are improved
more complex
more to do between temples

Cons:
side quests can drag on and become even longer than the temple itself
every time you want to save, you have to find an owl statue
can't save until you remove your curse
not many temples
original characters removed

I can go on about cons but those are about all the pros I can think up.

The mask concept makes the game more interesting but there are some masks (such as the couple's mask) that take the entire time limit to acquire and one mistake means you have to start over. Some of these masks are also completely useless except for the special role every mask shares once you get every single one (I'm not telling what it is, though). Also, in the Ocarina of Time, when you play a song, you hear the entire extended version. In Majora's Mask, you only hear what you play. Plus, when did Gorons live on an ice cap? When did the life of all Zoras revolve around some band? But I like how they extended the Dekus' role in the game.

The graphics and gameplay are improved due to the required expansion pack, but if you don't have the expansion pack, you have to pay $$ to buy one just so you can play this game at all. There is more to do between temples, but this is because there are only 4, unlike the 9 in Ocarina of Time. Also, once you get an improved item, you can't use the original. For example, once you get the Mirror Shield, (which, by the way, features a wailing face instead of the crescent moon and is circular) you can't use the Hero's Shield anymore. Also, what happened to King Zora? He was replaced by the BAND LEADER!! Not much of a king, I say. The Zora and Goron populations are also dramatically decreased. The game was fun, but didn't have very good replay value. It seemed like Nintendo just put in scenery where it was needed for a game, but the design of Termina and its temples weren't anywhere near as carefully thought out as Hyrule's. I could type forever on this game, but I'll leave it at that.

A Perfect Sequel To Ocarina

I'm stunned by bad reviews of Majora. Its a perfect pair to Ocarina. Not a sequel, but same engine, and wildly creative in a fresh new direction. Its provided months of fun to my daughter and I.

Of course, all of the games in the Zelda Cycle are excellent. The Ocarina of Time was mindboggling, it took gaming to a whole new level, and introduced something rare in the video game world, fun, sophisticated gaming that rewards creativity and intelligence. Now, with Majora's Mask, Nintendo has done it again. This is truly one of the best games I have ever played. The graphics are crystal clear, the storyline is entertaining, and the depth of play in astounding. There are so many different levels to this game! As Link, you must deal with Time in a whole new way. Time, in this game, is truly of the essence. This impending doom adds a whole new dimension to gameplay and adds a tremndous amount of excitement to an already gripping game. Whoever thought of building this into the game is a genuis, for without it, this would be as good as Ocarana, but not better. I recommend this game to inteligent, sophisticated gameplayers who are looking for a challenge.

Surreal? Yes! But ever so Good!

Majora's Mask, at first, seems to be completely different in comparison to the previous incarnation. However, as one plays through it and uncovers the dark secrets that lurk within, the player will inevitably feel more comfortable. My overall point is that although the plot, scenery and many of the game mechanics are different, everything that we have come to adore about Zelda flourishes to the surface.

Nintendo decided (rightly) to leave the controls as perfect as they ever were. Many characters have changed occupation but remain pleasantly familiar. There is never an instant when this game feels alien to you. And to add to this, Nintendo also saw fit to introduce real time into the equation. This can not only add a little more exitement as you have to race against time, but adds yet another layer onto Zelda's already deep and vibrantly realistic world. In the first game, time was pretty irrelevant. Majora's Mask gives an even greater sense of realism to this virtual environment.

A point that has to made regards the issue surronding this time element. Understandably, many who played the first game will feel more under pressure from the clock, when in the first game they could take their time. But, I felt that by slowing it down using the ocarina the player has plenty of time in which to achievr their objectives.

Overall, this is indeed a worthy successor to Ocarina of Time. Majora's Mask may not be as big, but it seems to actually do the impossible, it makes the game world which you inhabit even more astounding.

I've put off writing this reveiw to see if it could stand the test of "time" itself. I replayed it for the first time since 2000, and relized this game is golden. The moment I began my quest as a Deku Link I was pulled in just like I was 5 years ago. Though one feature, the main feature of time bothered me. I felt like I had to rush everything into a quick senario. There is a song you can play to slow down the hours from about a minute each to about 1 and a half minutes. The gameplay is solid though like it always is, and the tranforming was always a joy. There was really no plot to follow, you could play the game as you desired it to be. The first time through I didn't follow any story line, but I relized thats where the fun is. Since it has entertained me since it's 2000 released, this is a classic.

When I started hearing about this game, I thought, "jeez, this game isn't made by Shigeru Myamoto...Blasphamy!" But then I actually played it. Hoo boy, did my tune ever change. THIS GAME HAS IT ALL. It has some of the best grapics I have ever seen, and it has control that mimics ocerania of time. that's a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. but, there is one little eensy wincy niggly little thing that bugs the hell out of me. THE FREAKIN COUNTDOWN NEVER STOPS!! IT HARDLY EVER SLOWS DOWN!!! In all my life, I have never experienced anything more frustrating or just plain insanity inducing. Oh well, like I said, just a little problem. Oh, I forgot to mention what about that FRIGGIN COUNTDOWN that I had mentioned earlier. It is a timer you have. Three days,(game time, not real time.) and then a possessed moon comes crashing down and destroyes the world on the night of the big carnival. talk about depression inducing! Link has somehow been transformed into a deku, and is stranded in a parallel universe, and has thirty different masks to commendeer and use to his pleasure. do not hate this game for the biggest problem I have ever seen, because it is very awesome and challenging. Buy it today, If you haven't already.
(one more thing, god bless the poor souls that died in the new york city crisis on the eleventh. may god rest them.)

A Sorry Attempt to Create a Zelda Game

When I heard that Ocarina of Time was going to have a sequel I immediately found out all I could about the new game. I reserved it the first day that it was available. The day it was released I came home from school and drove w/ my mom to pick up my copy. I unwrapped the package, stuck in in my N64-and my mouth dropped. I thought to myself, "Is this a Zelda game?" This new version was unlike the previous games--no, this one didnt have the happy, adventurous and lighthearted tones of the previous Zelda games. Something was amiss. This game was darker, more devious. Sad in a way. The point of the game was to save the land of Termina from the falling moon, and you had 3 days in which to perform your task. You can replay the three days by playing the Ocarina of Time. All this mischief is caused by Skull Kid. A lonely Wanderer neglected from the rest of society. He sought friends in the new land, but no one would welcome him. He then stole Majoras Mask to become evil and powerful. Where was the creativity of plot? This new game made me depressed as I played it. Shigeru Miyamoto's magic had vanished, and a hollow, empty, and meaningless game was creted by the new authors. Sure the game has great graphics and play control, and a heck of a good soundtrack, but the special something, the feeling of exhillaration I got when playing a Zelda game had vanished. So buy this game if youre looking for a simple way to entertain yourself, but be warned that Zelda of the future is not as it once was.
