This Game is a Great Disappointment

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 3 / 12

I'm sure all of you have played Ocarina of Time. That was a great game, and is still one of my all-time favorites. When I heard about Majora's Mask, I promptly reserved it and got it the day it came out. Upon playing it, I wish I saved my money. Majora's Mask feels as though Nintendo wanted to make a quick buck by recycling Ocarina of Time, and the result is less than stellar. The time limit is extremely tedious, and there are no orginal characters, and the landscape of the game seems limited compared to previous Zelda games. Even A Link to the Past for Super Nintendo and Link's Awakening for Game Boy are better games. Granted, Majora's mask has superior graphics, but it's superiority ends there. My advice: buy Ocarina of time instead, or filing that, rent Majora's Mask before making your decision.

Good bye NIntendo

I have played the Zelda games from the beginning and have loved them. I was so anxious to get the latest, and then I was EXTREMELY dissappointed. I like the save feature so I won't have to go gather bombs, rupees, ect. THIS GAME DOES NOT SAVE YOUR INFO EVEN AFTER YOU GET THE OCARINA!! I lose points, any mazes I've cleared, rupees collected, ect. It is aBSOLUTELY HORRIBLE and I will never purchase another Nintendo game as long as I live. I can't believe they sold this as a "saveable game". I'm so sick of clearing the SAME MAZES again and again. It is NO fun, and I will probably sell this lousy game on ebay before Christmas to try to recoupe my loss. If Nintendo had informed me that my info wouldn't save, I wouldn't have wasted my money on this one :( 65.00 down the drain!!

Worst Game Ever,Nintendo should be sued 4 its shoty quality

Ok, so this wasn't the worst game ever, but it doesn't even compare to Ocarina of TIme. For one thing it is almost identically like the first one, but second time around it is more boring(I don't want the same thing over and over). There are all these quests and such that are suppose to make the game hard but are ridiculously tidious and hard, and so absurdly hidden that if you didn't have a strategy guide, and you were a great zelda player, you could play for 30days looking for an item and not get it. Having a game take a little while to beat is great. But, think, honestly, do you really want to be playing this everyday for the next 4years? I think not, and to do everything that is what you would have to do, not cause it is so big, but it is SO DAMN HARD. Beating Goldeneye on 00 agent is the easiest thing in the world compared to this game. I have sold my 64 and all my games and switched to a used psx and will soon get PS2. Because nintendo does not know how to create fun games, plain and simple, the only game ive played with a fun factor over 3(on a scale of 1-10) is Mario Kart, Goldeneye and Zelda:OoT. GOOD RIDANCE NINTENDO YOU P.O.S!!!

Never got the game

I never received the product, and was charged for it. I would not recommend this process to anyone.

Zelda Mojora's Mask, to buy or not to buy ?

This game is very complicated and can reach a point of annoyance. There's a clock that runs for three days and you always need to watch it. This game is also to much involed with the masks making you crazy about trying to get this and that before you can do this. I severly do not recommed this game to anyone, especially kids with short tempers or can be easily annoyed!

The Start of the "New" Zelda Games

It been awile since I played this game back in 2000, but now for fun and nostalgia I have gone back to playing my old N64 Games, and this one is one that defineatly deserves a review. This, of course is the Sequal to the fabulous, gorgious ocarina of time, and is the start of the "New" theme of Zelda games (Nothing to do with predescor, More Japanese themed, More Child-Oriented), Thus starting the trend towards the overly-colorful and strange two new game boy titles, and the cel-shaded cartoony gamecube title (yes, im going to hate it too). This game starts out as link is searching for Navi in some unchatred forest, only to be robbed by a colorfully masked bandit, who, is very short and wears a huge multi-colored mask with japanese designs on it. He steals link's Ocarina and horse, and runs off with them, with you chasing behind. Links possestion of the ocarina and horse are the only things that have anything to do with OcarinaOfTime, other than its THE EXACT SAME GAME with new places/quests/objects. Same character models, same animations, same songs/SFX, same objects, With only a small amount of new things to fit those categories, although i really didnt hear any new sounds, Oh well, on to the review. The gameplay and controls (Oooh, big suprise here) are the same as OOT, only now link is traversing through an ancient japan/europe type place, that is MUCH more technologicaly advanced than hyrule, with neon lights, large telescopes with blue star-patterend walls, postal services, clock towers, and CAROUSEL MUSIC THAT KILLS ZOMBIES. If you havnt noticed the way this game is overunned with cartoony Japanese stuff, theres something wrong with you, just to let you know. OOT completly emmersed you into it's renesance english type city, complete with a marketplace, shrine, and castle. Majoras Mask substitutes that with a freezing cold mountain next door to a flaming hot beach. OK, so the world is very differnt, and alot like a Japanese Cartoon, so lets get to the gameplay. As I mentioned before, the gameplay is excactly the same as OOT's, same moves, controls, some new enimies, mostly old enimies, same old same old, only now the dungeons (Half the amount of 'em as OOT) are more combat oriented than puzzle based. But this time, there are more side-quests. Using a special notebook to keep track of what side quests you completed and who you still need to run errands for, you can embark on a jorney to save a farm from aliens trying to take it's cows, a little inocent (and suprisingly alive) girl heal her mutated, mummified dad, or stay awake while listing to grandma's storys (seriously, that Really IS a sub quest). The sound is nothing new, with many birds chirping and flapping in the background and water trickling down streams, thunder roaring up in the air, while this may sound great, you wont be impressed, because you already have been impressed by OOT's sound. Graphics- smae as above. I dont know about you, but I think this is still a good game, but when you really think about it, this game is overloaded with japanese and fantasy themes than the Renesance/ Medievil themes that OOT was placed with, wich I loved, and honestly, I just cant play this anymore and be excited about it, Im playing a Japanese cartoon, not an epic Medievil knight's tale filled with mysterous shrines, beautiful villages, adrenaline-pounding boss fights, no, im saving a worthless-anyway land from a moon that has a face, with yellow eyes, and teeth, anyway, if you already own OOT, dont get this because it's cheap, if you don't own OOT, get OOT, but if OOT is not even being selled used anymore, and you know its not, not anywhere, get this game as a small subsitute.

What should you do with $50?

Looks can be deceiving. That is definately the theme of this game, and it's something you should keep in mind while playing it. Some people say that the most annoying/noticable/new attribute of this game is the 3 day time span, but I say it's the story. This is not Ocarina of Time. The story is way different, and the things you do actually have an effect on the world. For example, beating a temple "cures" the surrounding area either by eliminating poison, thawing frozen barriers, clearing water, or clearing enemies, and this affects the characters accordingly. People also say "Get a strategy guide" but I beat the game on my own, with a little help from the web for getting the Couple's Mask (was that ever a pain). Also, I suggest beating the game only AFTER you have all of the masks, trust me, it is more thrilling getting the Fierce Diety mask the first time possible, before you know the ending. While the game does have some familiar aspects, it is very different. The story has a much darker tone, although this is not displayed until halfway through the game, especially the Stone tower temple. Once you get the Gidbo mask and find the mummies dancing in the castle, ::shiver:: that just really FREAKED ME OUT. And note that beating a temple will not permanently affect the land, because if you go back in time, you have to beat the boss of that temple AGAIN in order to cure the land. Don't fret, because I found the bosses the most fun part about the temples. Exploration is key in this game, if that isn't obvious enough, as there are many side quests to go on and people to talk to to obtain various masks. I don't really want to spoil the game for everyone, but remember that Zelda games never trap you. If you are stuck somewhere, there is ALWAYS a way out, either suggested by a NPC to you, or, as a last resort, playing the Song of Time will return you to the clock on the first day no matter where and when you are.

Perhaps my only complaint about the game was having to buy the Expansion Pack. Man, what a hassle. I found no real usefulness for this pack either, there were fewer temples, smaller areas, only slightly better graphics...But it's required.

And summing it up, I'd call this game a $200 (+$30) game: $150 for the N64 and $50 for the game.

Again, I urge you to try to do this game by yourself, without the help of spoilers or walkthroughs, because if you do it without help, you will feel so proud of yourself for all your masks, and the game will actually be fun to play instead of fun to beat.

Monotonous at times.

I own most all Zelda games and am a true fan since the first. However, this game disappointed me most. It will probably be the one Zelda game I never play a 2nd time. It is very repitious with the whole time change within the 3 day period of which the game is set within.

very very good but,not as good as 'ocarina of time'

I played the Legend of zelda ocarina of time in 1997,WHAT A YEAR THAT WAS!!!I had so much fun!then in gameinformer magazine the new preveiws page said that there was going to be a new game called 'the legend of zelda:majora's mask'it was about link going to a new land where the moon is falling and he has only 3 days to live and on the third day link has to play the song of time so that he can go back to the first day,I HAD TO HAVE IT!but then half a year later when it came out,I was very upset because when I played it,it was too easy and I beat it in almost a week!when I played'Ocarina of time'it took me almost two YEARS!but other then that it was a fun game,Very fun in fact.I really liked that you can upgrade your sword, when in 'ocarina of time'the master sword is what you see what you get! PROS TO MAJORAS MASK:There are lots of masks that you can get and they give powers(like fast running),you can upgrade your sword twice, there are new songs for link to play on his ocarina and there is a bank so link can have alot of money! CONS:you have to play 'the song of time'way to often because the moon is falling for some reason and you have only 3 days to live, finding more then half of the masks are very hard to find, the game has only four temples and they are all very hard way too short.but all in all this game is worth around $15.00,so if you like the other Zelda games try this one too!

How... Incredibly... GOOD!

This game is without a doubt, the greatest Zelda game that ever hit the face of this earth! Ocarina of time was very good as well, but majora's mask was harder, more challenging, and funner than ever. The storyline is excellent. Besides not using swords on Epona (which will be cleared up in the upcoming Zelda Game, Twilight princess), this game gets an A!
