An Excellent Game with One Problem

This is an overall improvement on the first Knights of the Republic, which is saying something since the first game was a blast. The same things that made the first one a winner are still here. Dynamic and simple interface and combat. Easy to understand skill system and interesting followers/villians. Fun little side games in the form of racing and card playing, etc. etc. All in all, a fun game you should buy.
One problem. The storyline, while interesting, doesn't exactly make alot of sense. You keep EXPECTING it to, you keep waiting for that little missing piece of the puzzle to come along that'll make it all come together but it never really does. The ending as a result, is lacking. You leave the game feeling like you've had a good time but somehow still unsatisfied. I have heard via the net that they cut out fairly large branch adventures during design and I suspect the problem is they didn't bother to tidy up the loose ends, but whatever the case, they should have put more rational thought into the story.
Nevertheless, it's a game I am glad I have and look forward to seeing yet another sequel. If the online Star Wars game was even a tenth as fun, we'd all be playing it.
4 out of 5 stars because if they had put some thought into it, this game would have won an award like the first one.

I REALLY like the game, but the first one was much better written. Some of the storyline was a little disapointing, it seems like they were in too much of a hurry to get the game out than to think it out and finish the storyline, but still lots of fun - wether you're light - OR - dark side.
KOTR 2

KOTR 2 had a lot of stuff i disliked. it was ok 3 star fun rating 4 star perfromence rating.
DISLIKES
1. The big thing i didn't like in KOTOR 2 was the massive amounts of enemys. Such as in onderon there was at least 12 bounty hunters plus the leader. The tons of enemys throughout the game were hard to beat when you started off. but when you got strong enough, sure it was fun to watch your sith or jedi cut down like 20 sith troopers, but eventually it just became a nunsience. Everytime you'd see them up ahead you'd have to sigh. Onderon was filled with this both the first and second visit.
2. The second thing is the party related stuff. Such as Onderon when you have to choose three party members to attack The Temple and then send the rest to Iziz. Now they only give you 2 companions that have Jedi Ablities (Kreia and Visas). It doesn't allow you to take kreia and everyone beside the handmaiden can't hold their own with a viroblade. Also you need Bao-dur to disarm the sith defenses and Madalore to keep everyone alive, so left me to choose visas as my last party member. It was hard enough to get into the sith tomb but when you reach the center. Theres 4 sith armed with lightsabers. Now Bao-dur gets cutdown in a second and Madalore dies after repeated shots. That leaves visas all alone against, maybe 3 sith barely weakened. The way i actually beat this was running around the tomb until my force came back and shocking the sith till death. Ulitimetly your party members are nothing compared to anyone that has a lightsaber or force powers.
3. The third and final thing that made the game bad was the horrible storyline, graphics, and Planets. First of all the games extremly easy to figuire out but they put a tutorial. while it is optional its a waste of loading time which is like gold in this game. Peragus was horrible. Having to run around and fight droids that can't take one shock or viroblade slash was horrible. Kreia and Attons horrible role in this might have something to do with it. When you finally get a three person party to have to fight off invisable sith assains who are extremly annoying. but the story doesn't get any better throughout the game. Picking up party members is like adding a dead body to your body count. You see once you have a set party they should be who you keep because everyone else dies too fast. The graphics made the ebonhawk and peragus an overall annoying experience. The thing that really made me mad was throughout the game you would be taunted by finding out what happened to reven like bastilas holocron and the cave temple. I thought that maybe Revan could be the key to the entire once you disposed of the sith lords but it was like they'd put it in your head and then be like nah we were just kdding. I know this would be hard to pull off but it would be worth it.
Now the game overall is an ok sequel. However you have to find some way to keep yourself entertained fighting hoardes of annoying enmeys and horrible storylines. However the game should be bought if you played and beat the first one. What i am hoping is that they'll make a thrid one that dips more into the after story such as you get to lead the sith or get another mission like going into the unknown. You know if you were evil in the first and second ones you were disappointed when you weren't able to go back and fight the jedi masters and conquer planets. I think the game should have that crucial descion at the end but that descion should lock your faction in good or evil and then you would have to go on another quest in which if your evil maybe reclaim the star forge and use its power on the plants you've allready traveled and fighting jedi on the way and former party members that left when you made the descion. The same thing for good execept you would have to track down the remaining sith and work you way up to becoming the ulitamate jedi master.
A decent sequel

Not quite as good as the first KOTOR, but still worth buying especially at this price.
The game was ported directly from the xbox like the first game but where as the first one was tweaked to take advantage of the PC, this one is pretty much ported directly over with no changes made. Because of this there are some glitches (especially if your using Vista, I had to replace my Mss32.dll file to get the game to load. And I had some issues with the video cutting out during cut scenes, had to turn the monitor off and on again to get the video back)
As for the game itself, the story line is not as strong as the first KOTOR and there are some pretty big holes in it also. Game play and Combat is pretty much identical to the first game so you'll feel right at home if you have played the first KOTOR already.
Lots of fun, not lots of SW

This game is incredibly fun. It does everything the first did, but better and deeper. New everything, conversations are as great as ever. Story is debatably a tad worse, but that is definitely a matter of opinion not a matter of fact.
The place where it stumbles, however, is in its faithfulness to the lore. It gives it a brief friendly hug, but it doesn't embrace it the way it should. There are many parts that will leave you going "wtf?" and scrambling to try and find logic there. I'll give you a hint - it isn't there. This game has already been decanonized, thank God, so don't worry; you're not wrong, the game is. Again, however, it is a lot of fun, just don't take the lore aspect to seriously.
Like the first game, with a few whistles

If you played and liked Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, you'll love this game. If you haven't played Knights I, but love Star Wars, LucasArts, or Obsidian Entertainment, you'll love this game.
The original Knights, produced by BioWare, is still one of my favorite games ever, and this game is more or less the same. They've fine tuned some of the details, and added a few tweaks. Most notably is the addition of the "Influence" system. The characters aren't as deep (in my opinion) but they're not just one dimension, either. In your dialogues with your companions, you have the potential to gain or lose influence with them. Gaining influence adjusts them to your alignment (good or evil), and eventually *SPOILER* some of your characters can become your Jedi/Sith apprentices.
They've also added more combat behaviors and several Lightsaber Forms with different bonuses/costs. Plus, you start the game as a Jedi Class, with the option to become a Prestige Class based on your alignment later in the game.
Also, there is no need to play Knights 1 first. Early in the game, you will be asked to describe whether Revan was light/dark and male/female. This has some direct implications: i.e. return of some of the Knights 1 NPCs depending on whether Revan was light or dark. (Some NPCs will "forget" that Revan was a woman on occasion, and still call her "him".)
The only thing I can really complain about is that this game is slightly buggy on Vista. After the game *should* load, (i.e. you click GAME in the quicklaunch), Vista will announce that SWKotORII has stopped working... You just have to try again. And again. Eventually, it will launch, and it'll be good for hours upon hours of extended play (which was how the game was designed to be played).
Okay, I lied. The ending also sucks. LucasArts pressured Obsidian to push forward the release date, so after you defeat the final antagonist, you can ask them for an "eplilogue" about the characters, then you have a 30 second cutscene. That's it. There is no glorious ending of gratitude or conquest like in Knights I, but the rest of the game is well worth it.
I was mislead by negative reviews!!!!!

Earlier this year after playing the first KOTOR game, I had read so many bad reviews about KOTOR 2 that I decided to just avoid this game. However, when rumors started to really fly that a third installment was possibly coming, I decided that I must play through The Sith Lords to be "caught up" in the KOTOR saga. Boy am I glad I did!
To me, Kotor and Kotor 2 are one big story, just like how the Star Wars movies flow together. If you are going to play both, I highly recommend the original KOTOR first so the story flows smoothly and also so the characters in KOTOR won't feel watered down. The larger selection of powers in this second game really add to the fun, and playing time was much longer--much to the dismay of the chores I need to get done around the house. ;)
I didn't have any problems with unfinished tasks, unless I left them that way on purpose or I simply didn't catch on to the "trigger event" in time. The ending had a few choppy graphics, but the voice acting more than made up for it so I could simply listen to what happens in the end-game wrap up. If dialog got passed over quickly due to a glitch, I could simply go back and read it in the Messages tool.
I also liked that even though the final battle in KOTOR was tough, KOTOR 2 was tougher and very imaginative. What worked in the first game didn't always work so well in the second, and vice versa. This keeps the two titles distinct concerning tactics and strategy, and far from boring. KOTOR 2 also had a talent for lulling me into a habit concerning the use of force powers and combat, and then it would throw something at me that would force me to change my style quickly (and it actually got me killed a couple of times when I didn't adapt!)
I had no problem with how the character starts out, and I also didn't have any problems with the ending. I enjoyed creating new Jedi and seeing some familiar "faces" and locations from the first game.
If you like Knights of the Old Republic, go ahead and get The Sith Lords to add to your enjoyment of this era of Star Wars.
I woke up this morning with a deep seated desire to play KOTOR...

The second-generation of BioWare's wonderful rpgs (preceeded by the inovative KOTOR and followed by Mass Effect, which will change the face of rpgaming forever), KOTOR II: The Sith Lords suffers only from being the middle child in a family of brilliant games. Where KOTOR was the first of its kind, with the ability to choose your path and play your way, The Sith Lords brings little new to the game besides new story.
*SPOILERS* You are the nameless Jedi Exile (cannonically female, incontrast to the male Reven from KOTOR I), banished from the republic for your part in the Mandalorian War. But now you have returned, the last Jedi to remain. Charismatic to a fault, if you rise into the Light your companions will rise with you, if you fall into the Dark they will fall with you. Love, like in BioWare's other rpgs, ensues in the cold metal of the Ebon Hawk (misteriously now in the pocession of the Exile). If you are female, you have the tragically devoted love of the simpering Disciple. If male, the half-alien Handmaiden earns your love. They along with the rest of your organic companions can become Jedi to repopulate the republic (in a strictly Jedi sense of course). *END SPOILERS*
In short, if you loved KOTOR, get KOTOR II: The Sith Lords. If you're new to the series, you'll love this. If your not, you'll like this game better. Still play, just be warned its not he original, despite the better graphics.
Wonderful Game!

As a preface to this review, let me say that there is a common problem with this game not having sound on Windows Vista,
this can usually be fixed by replacing a dll file which can be downloaded here:
files.filefront.com/Mss32dll/;6695046;/fileinfo.html
I did not know this however, so I played through the the entire game without sound because the game is that good.
After I found the solution to the sound problem, the game became even better, which is saying a lot.
Be warned though, this game is a mix of a lot of dialog sequences and battle sequences,
you have to like this genre to like all the dialog.
The story however (which is driven by the dialog sequences), is compelling, although somewhat incomplete,
but the incompleteness will be mostly fixed by a mod for this game that's 3+ years in the making,
just google "TSLRP"
Also, while the story of this game isn't dependent on having played the first game,
you will get more out of the story if you have played it.
I hope that you find this review helpful...
