I will just say this right away... if you liked the first one, you will like this one. If you didn't like the first one, you will not like this one. The game play is the same, just with miner changes for the good. But which one do *I* like better... I might have to say the first one -I am not 100% sure about that but I do know for a fact that the story was better in the first one. And the twist, if you could call it a twist, was not nearly as good as the first games one... although 2 big twist like that would be a little werid.
Although, quite a few things were added...something was...well missing. I don't know exactly what...but I will list some negitive things I notist. Maybe it was just the path I took in the game... but it was not unit the END of the third planet that I got a lightsaber...and they were probably the 3 longest planets, and that lightsaber was just for the main character. Also, it seemed like quite a bit (not all) of the dialoge you could choose, had no differance on becoming light or dark- for example: there was a large part in the game (near the end) that I said very light sidish things and got not light side points added...and there were times that I said very dark sidish things and no dark side points added- not a big problem. The characters didn't seem as dynamic as in the first game, they still were dynamic, but not as much. The ending was... a little thrown together too quickly and was not very satisfying (I haven't beat it being on the dark side yet though). You spend about 40 hours on a game...so you should expect some really long and nice movie parts... what you get is to see your ship fly away...not even 30 seconds...maybe just 30 seconds. The first game was way mor satisfying. Maybe the Metal Gear game spoiled me with movie parts or I just should watch a movie instead.
Now the good. I like how your characters are influenced by you and even some can become jedi. Also the customaztions are improved, you can get past level 20, more jedi classes, more characters, more force powers, an that is about all I can think off. Also, it has the same great gameplay as the first.
If they were to make a thrid KOTOR game, I would hope they would use a new time period, I think a third one would get a little repedative... i would still get it though. More like a long time after the KOTOR game, or even only rears before the 1st movie... or even after the 6th one...but it would be could knights of the OLD republic and there is talk of a new star Wars trilagy (7,8, and 9)
I would get this game if you played the first game and like it... I would get this game unless you have played the first one. Although the other one is better...at lest at the story... this game is worth you bucks.
Awesome game!

I got this game a few nights ago and have been enjoying playing it since. The other reviews have given you a good idea of the gameplay itself, but I thought I should balance out the criticisms of ATI cards playing this game. My Radeon 9600 has no problems whatsoever running the game. No artifacts, no freezes, etc. Yes, it has it's bugs, but they are not ATI specific.
And a note to ATI users - for those who DO have problems, the Catalyst 4.11 drivers are supposed to fix the freezes/crashes (although it may result in an artifact or two).
GREAT game... (what wan't cut out)

This game is a great game, but at least 25% (including one ENTIRE planet) of it was cut because of time delays. If you've played KOTOR 1 this is a MUST. It has fine graphics and GREAT (even better than KOTOR 1) gameplay. The plot is much darker and more mysterious than KOTOR 1, but is no cause for celebration. [...]

Well i really really wanted a game that would let you be a Jedi Knight, basically destroying people with whatever side you choose and type of Light Sabre. Yet not many Star Wars games released recently even have Jedis in them much less let you choose their path in the dark/light side. So i dig up this "old" game. I heard about it and maybe even d/l a demo, way to long ago to even remember such things. DId i mention it came out in 2003, am i alright mentally? Yeh, so not too long ago, graphics seem to be less than par now a days but back then they were probably fine. OF course i have been playing Oblivion and Call of Duty 2 (both on Dx 9), so really gfx isnt an issue, its just me, again. But the game play is more of an Action RPG, with even the action part being mostly rpg. You do not hack n slash, yet you can. You decide your attacks on a window, either use force powers, attacke with lightsaber, or ... well thats it. BUt wait, for the first 3 or 4 hours you do not even have your lightsaber. Thats right you go through 2 whole planets without one, yet they actually ellude to it, damn foreplay. Anyway, that is not really the issue for this games flaws. The main flaw would of course be my lack of rpg prowess. But wait i love Oblivion. Oblivion has you actually hitting things and taking damage, If i miss with my cursor then it is my fault. While in this game you cannot "aim" with your gun/LS/sword you just press a button and it does that for you. Alas when i go to hit somebody with this no "aiming" method every freackin hit is a miss. Probably 1/10 swings are hits. That is really sad, especially when it is a stupid droid who has no shield. I can see the human imperials that have really really good swordplay. But my guy is a Jedi, come On!!! But of course me being a genious i actually play without swords now, because it actually hits better, kinda sad. LS of course are awesome and amazing, but if you are prepared to miss 9/10 times for the first 3 hours, and you are fine with it, then this game is a good to go, if not... play oblivion :)
Excellent sequel, even better than the original one.

The Sith are hunting the Jedi! The player must fight them as a lonely Exile, who gets several allies to fight them. The characters are all interesting and the gameplay exciting. Not to mention the dark atmosphere and cool planets, with Nar Shaddaa being the best one! And they were even more interesting than in the first one! The best parts were the final battle, Handmaiden being Vogga`s slave and the time, when you finally avenge Atris! Heh, that was fun. The best Star Wars game ever!
a wonderful game

by 4 stars i mean that the good and great of the game strongly outweigh the problems, although there are still some problems. i have never played a 5 star game and wonder if one is even possible. with its 4 stars and problems kotor 2 is easily one of the best computer games i have ever played.
the positives:
difficulty level: my ideal is that i am lightly challenged, die rarely if at all, but still feel i am being clever and talented without devoting my life to a game. this usually for me means hoping for difficulty level options and choosing easy. kotor has an easy combat option and it is easy! yeah! if anything it is rather too easy, but i wont complain. i think my character/party died two or three times due to sheer inattentiveness or my goofing around. i was happy. the non combat elements were varied but not matters of life and death so an occasional small failure wasn't too hard to take. pazzak (the card game) was enjoyable, more rewarding and fairer than in kotor 1 (a lesser, but also very good game) though a bit more of it for money would have been nice. racing (another mini game) also improved from 1 though it was the most challenging thing and a couple races took me multiple reloads and took me close to the edge of my patience.
graphics: these games are not famed for great graphics, but i actually kind of adored them, beautiful character models, amazing little movie quality cutscenes sprinkled liberally and good variety of locations and sets. not bleak and depressing like too many rpgs and shooters, rather bright and star warsy (mostly).
characters, voice acting, and structure: the variety of characters you get was, well, amazing. some i really loved and some i hated. they were all acted brilliantly and the structure of the game did one amazing thing and one good thing in relation to them. the amazing thing was influence- which is sort of a game running within the game that causes you to be mindful of the characters in your party, not just passive in regarding them. you can choose to try and act in a way that appeals to them and changes them. it may be the single most brilliant device i have seen in a computer game. the good is that the game gives you a pretty diverse cast and forces you to play them all in various places- mostly pretty naturally which sometimes might make you go "why do i have to bring him with?" but mostly helps weave the story together and keep the gameplay a bit fresher and out of a rut.
story: okay, this is more of a mixed bag, but for all the containing within the story of a light and dark path the game had to do i think it did a decent job. it wasn't as stupid and depressing as say episodes 1,2,3 of the movies and it wasn't a million miles near as fun and satisfying as 4,5,6. it wasn't as clear or sensible as either, but it was a good container for the events and characters it contained within it. i love story in computer games, but they mostly suck horribly and at absolute rare best are pretty good, so, this is more on the positive side grading on a curve.
negatives:
crashing problems. i believe there are two main reasons this game does not rate higher overall on amazon. one is it is a quick follow up sequel to an innovative and beloved game and so did not have the same fresh surprise and discovery going for it (also, honestly the overarching story was maybe not quite as sharp), but also it did not have the advantage of technology advance (more amazing and complex graphics etc) that comes with new engines and such. and two, it has some technical problems. i myself had to delete a line of text from some folder to get the game to work after the first cutscene (was recommended as a last resort, but worked for me with no downside). i still had occasional awful crashes to a black screen that required rebooting, though they were pretty rare and almost non existant the further i got in the game. on the plus side in kotor one there were a couple places where the frame rate dropped so badly it was hard to get through on my computer. this happened far less in two and to a much smaller degree.
sequential problems: some things, if you do them in the "wrong" order kind of mess you up. i have heard of game ending problems-this did not happen to me- but i did get some annoying things that prevented me solving or completing a few quests in a way that did not feel natural.
choices: this could easily be on the positive side since this is the best game of choices i have ever played, but still, sometimes i was forced to say things i did not want to say because it was my only choice or the best of bad choices
combat: fun, but a bit much sometimes.
conclusion: kotor 2 may be the best game, my favorite game i have played even though it is pretty far from perfect. if your computer meets requirements you will by far most likely get it to work and if you dont expect every little thing to go perfectly you might like it as much as me. i recommend it whole heartedly.
Good game, but seemed kind of short.

This game had good graphics and the dialogue was alright, but it only took about a week for me to beat the story line. On the up side though I did want to play through on both light and dark side and as the different character classes, so replay value is also good with this game.

That certainly was a twist ending. I expect most games to have a sensible conclusion. This one lacks any kind of resolution, unless it's a cheap attempt by LucasArts to market another sequel. This game would've been great if it had been completed.
Great Potential awfull execution
