The game has a lot of things over the original, but a few defining factors that fall behind.
Blind alley bugs - ruin game experience.

I just have to get this off my chest.... I've never played a game with so many blind alley bugs, ones that you continue playing for an hour before you realise your in a bug that you can't get out of and have to go to a previous save... hoping you don't trigger the same bug!@?*& This is unacceptable, I'm sort of ok with a bug that craches my system, but this, I'm actually going to stop playing in the middle of this game (haven't done that sience I made the mistake of buying MOO3).
BEST GAME EVER!

I was worried about playing this because the first game was lacking, but being a true Star Wars fan, I had to. Turned out, it was great! The new powers are awesome, the party is good when you get used to them, the lightsaber colors are great. The only downside is that your standing with each party member can shift. This is good and bad. The good is that it opens up extra powers/events. The bad is that it is EXTREMELY hard to keep everyone happy with you. If you are a Star Wars fan, grab this. If you like Jedi, get this.
The first game was better...

The problem with this game is story... there isn't one. While the first game was a lot of fun with a great plot line, this game doesn't seem to really take you anywhere. This game has the same game play as the first(which I think is great), but the story is awful and incomplete (not to mention all the bugs and flaws I encountered). Play the first one and don't bother with this game.
Awesome, but could have been better

I love this game. The new stuff was great. However, the plot was worse than that of KOTOR 1, and the bugs got on my nerves. If they had worked on it more instead of rushing it, it would have been the best game ever. It's still pretty fun, though.
No where to go

Star Wars Knights 2 was a good game but the ending stinks. What
I mean is there's no where to go after you beat the game. Your stuck on this planet without anything to do. My friend told me there's a cheat to go past the end for like ten different missions, but I can't find it. So make sure you save it before you go to the enclave when a certain person tells you to.
The bottom line!

The bottom line is yes a lot of errors as a result of really poor quality control...but with patience and a lot of saving you can get through the game.....patches ok..but the real answer is to release a later version with all the 'fix' including the real ending......so if the company wants to do the right thing... they have the answer..... the game itself has a good storyline, ease of use is pretty good.....
an awesome sequel!

this one is one teensy bit less stellar than the original.in this one, theres a different batch of dudes, droids and chicks running around.its still an rpg,but with a few added features from the first one.the first main difference is if you go bad, your team follows.they might complain and what not,but they come around.the other big change is you have influence over your team.so if youre nice to them, you gain influence points.when these get high enough, your team will gain benifits in battle as they rally behind thier leader.[you].there are a few familiar faces from the old one.one thing i didnt like though is they almost always trap you on a planet and force you to rely,at some point,on computer skills and mind games to get by.this is ok once in a while, but they really overdo it on this one.its a great game.
Game mechanics are great but...

I strongly suggest playing (and finishing) the original KotOR before playing this sequel. Not only will the stories between both games make more sense, but you'll better appreciate the innovations in KotOR 2 such as more customization with lightsabers, being able to create upgrades for equipment (and not merely finding them), additional character development options and the jedi "prestige" classes.
Unfortunately, it's the story development in KotOR 2 that makes it its biggest weakness. Most of the blame could be placed on whoever made the decision to rush this game out the door before it was truly finished. With extra time, somebody might have realized, for example, that it doesn't really make sense that you don't have a lightsaber early in the game. Depending upon how far you interact with certain NPCs, you'll find that this part of the story makes even less sense. The last part of the game doesn't make too much sense, beginning with the last three cut scenes. I won't give anything away, but if you finish the game, you'll see what I mean. If LucasArts and Obsidian Entertainment were to ever make a(nother) patch to fix the bugs and the story (mis)developments, it will be GIGANTIC in size.
Even with the latest patch, there are still bugs. Best example: here were two side quests I was NEVER able to finish, and it doesn't matter how powerful your "Exile" character is. And those crashes; there were times the game would crash after less than half an hour of running, or running for hours.
There are some things which might be design flaws instead of bugs. One example is how there are two classes of an armor overlay that can be added to robes (jedi or otherwise) but two higher classes of this overlay that CAN'T be added to robes AND there's no indication of this! This is disappointing since it takes a rather high amount of specialized skill for your character or NPC to make these overlays. And it takes a fair amount of time to attain such a high skill level. Another annoyance is that you can't level up your NPCs while inside the Ebon Hawk, but you could do this in the orginal KotOR. Another thing that should've been copied over from the orginal KotOR are icon indicators for what effects a character is under in the Character Info screen, which is one keystroke away. KotOR 2 requires you to go to the Journal menu then click on a submenu option to see the active effects.
At the risk of spoiling the game, I'll give this piece of advice:
Some NPCs can become jedis later while some will NEVER become jedis (and that's not counting droids). Unless you don't want ANY of the NPCs to become jedis, there's simply no reason to hold on to any kind of armor, no matter how awesome. You're better off selling it or breaking it down into parts to make other useful items.
Very well done

Buy this game.
KOTOR II gets it right in a lot of ways. While some of what has been written here IS true: Graphics and Game play now significantly enhanced, dialogue more limited etc, Obsidian has created an immensely enjoyable game.
The story line is engaging, charactors are as well. What the game developer did here was to focus on the story telling and it's a good story. THe charactor development, influence and voice acting are all highlights.
There are continuity issues: Bao-Dur's remote blows up in one cut scene at the "Hands" of G0-T0 only to be sitting right there after the cut scene is done and there is no impact on the story line. There are more but these are lesser issues.
Small issues ion a grand game. The developer was given a year to make this happen and did a commendable job given that time frame. I consider the money well spent, however the publisher losses the star for forcing the game out before it was comepletely done.
Buy this game, you will enjoy it!
