The Best Video Game Ever

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 2

This game has very easy controls, an engaging storyline, and flawless graphics and sound. I like the statistics on how many enemies you've killed and how many times you've been killed. I also like how the game is divided into chapters. My only complaint is that sometimes to dodge an obstacle, you hit A and B, other times X and Y. The merchant is very cool, and the weapons and treasures are thoughtful. The one room where you have to dodge lasers is a neat reference to the Resident Evil movie. The bonus games are also a lot of fun.

This game is the best for gamecube. The game is really scary at night. Their are a lot of suprising moments and great boss fights. It took me and my friends 22 hours to beat it. If you are looking for a good game to scare yourself and your friends at night then buy this game. The game is scary even if you are watching someone play it. Even after you beat it their are minigames to play that are really fun.

Despite all my negative comments earlier on, I have now finished the game and all I can say is that RE4 is a superb game ever to be created by capcom. Truly intense game from the start. Full of actions with weapons and ammunition to be used against your foe. The enemy AI is incredible as well that it gives you the true horror, evil and terrorizing environment and atmosphere. I was basically on the edge of my seat all the time as surprises keeps coming and you do not know what to expect. I had a blast completing RE4. I am going to go for the 2nd round with all my powerful weapons that I still possessed at the end of the 1st round. I am gonna kill all of them and blast them to pieces from the beginning..... Awesome Resident Evil!! Superb work of art by capcom and its creator!!! Highly recommended, If you do not have a gamecube I suggest you get it now to play RE4. It will be a greatest hits over time and it will also be classic for many more years to come. What are you waiting for???

It's got me excited about Resident Evil all over again.

I played the demo for this a couple weeks ago, and I was blown away. What was shown has lived up to the hype surrounding it--this will be a wholly new experience for RE fans, and it gets me excited about the game and even the future of the series itself.

*begins Storyteller Mode*

The demo starts you off on the outskirts of a village somewhere in Europe (presumably in Spain, since the villagers spout Spanish between their gibberish). Your character, Leon Kennedy, the only living member of the Raccoon Police Department and one of the few survivors of the Raccoon City incident, steps out of a car and out onto the yellowed grass.

Armed only with a pistol, Leon makes his way to a wooden cabin just off the path to the village proper. He enters, and speaks to the only resident, a grizzled-looking man who is busily tending a fire. The man curses at Leon in Spanish, and then turns away. Leon shrugs and starts to leave--and is nearly cleaved by the villager's ax.

Leon is forced to take the man down, shooting the ax out of his hand first, then pumping a couple rounds into the man's face. Once he's down, he checks the body, and remarks that it "isn't a zombie..."

Suddenly, he hears pounding on the door, and more curses. Someone heard him kill the man, and now they want in. Panicked, he rushes upstairs--grabbing a box of ammo on his way up--and finds himself at a dead-end. Frowning, heart pumping as he hears the door downstairs break open and the curses get closer, he rushes back down to the landing, takes a deep breath, and jumps out the window.

He hits the ground at a roll, and quickly gets to his feet. Turning around, he sees several more villagers--armed with pitchforks, axes, scythes and sickles--glaring at him from beneath the cabin's awning. They charge him, and Leon takes them down, shooting them in their kneecaps, sending them tumbling to the ground. He rushes away, up the path and over to the main village.

At the edge of the village, he scopes out the area with a pair of binoculars, observing the villagers as they go about their lives, taking care of the cow and the chickens, pitching hay, and just roaming about the town. Leon's hope of getting information to aid in his mission rises; he steps into town.

The villagers see him--and in an instant, their whole demeanor changes. They yell in gibberish, point accusing fingers, and close in, wielding their primitive farm weapons and sneering.

Leon, startled, backs up--and realizes that nearly twelve villagers have surrounded him, and are raising their weapons to attack. Desperate to escape, he shoots down one of the villagers, pushes his way out of the cluster of crazed Europeans, and rushes into one of the houses, slamming the door behind him.

The villagers cluster around the door, and then one of them starts giving orders. Ladders are brought to the house, and a man wearing a burlap sack on his head and wielding a gas-powered chainsaw comes to the door, which he starts to hack through with silent determination.

Leon sees all this through a crack in the planks. He quickly shoves a heavy bookcase against the door, and rushes upstairs, looking for a way out.

Halfway up the stairs he hears the sound of shattering glass. He goes upstairs, and finds that the villagers have erected a ladder against the building, and the top of it punched through the glass. Leon frantically goes over, looks down--and sees three villagers clawing their way up the ladder. Thinking quickly, he kicks the ladder down, sending them crashing down to the ground.

Satisfied, he looks around the rest of the upper room for something, anything--and comes across two things: a shotgun, and two more villagers, pounding against the window, trying to get in. He grabs the shotgun, aims it at the window, the laser sight lined up to the chest of his would-be attackers, and blows them away, sending them flying across the roof.

He hears the door break open downstairs, and the clunk of the ladder being re-raised. They are coming for him.

Leon rushes over to the window, leaps out onto the roof, blows away a couple more villagers, and kicks down a couple more ladders that have been laid against the building. Soon he finds himself forced into a corner on the roof, crazed villagers piling out of a window to join him. He blows a couple away--and then sees the chainsaw-carrier approach. He delivers a single shotgun blast to his face, jumps off the roof of the building, rushing towards another building, searching for shelter and weapons--and an end to this madness.

--End Storyteller Mode--

Everything in that description can be done in real-time, and there are a bunch of things I didn't mention, like how you can leap over things that are in your way, kick open doors, shoot through doors, throw grenades, and kick your enemies away when their dazed. Additionally, the enemies drop items, which are vital to your survival, and they frequently throw their weapons at you when you're at a distance. Further, they've set booby traps outside the entrance to their village; those are only a mild annoyance in the demo, but will probably be a lot worse in the full game. Oh, and if you get into a tall building, like the clocktower, they'll toss firebombs up at you until you come down.

Frankly, I've never had so much fun and fought so hard to stay alive in a Resident Evil game. Playing is just invigorating; the fight for survival has never been so frenzied.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience and the info with you all. I'm really excited about this game, and I hope it lives up to my expectations. ^^
RE2 is no longer the best game of the series, RE4 is #1!!

The Resident Evil series has kept fans intrigued and terrified since word came of the game about 8 years ago now. The original game was enough to get people intrested and wanting more Resident Evil 2 kept people on the edge of their seat (It was the best to play in the dark especially when the licker aka head hunter (depending on which games u have played in the series) come crashing through the window!! Nemesis was okay inh terms of storyline but everything was the same and if u have played ALL the RE games like myself i am sure u felt that too. Then came other games RE and REZero for the Gamecube as well as games like RE: DEAD AIM for Playstation and all the games primarily made to make online experience to be the most enjoyable, longtime RE fans have not had much to cheer about lately in terms of continue the storyline of the best horror video game series.
That is until now RE4 is the newest installment and in my mind the best. Graphics are wonderful. Although the enemies are not really the typical zombie they still are intent on eating your flesh and now can use pitchforks torchs and even chainsaws to keep the secrets of the village covered. New enemies and characters join the serues as well and you have more room for items as well as the laser sight back from RE: Dead Aim for improved range and accuracy. So, in short I will short here as not to blow any of the story but this game is a definate must buy if you can or are a diehard RE fan. Capcom should be praised for this one (...)

Sweet!!

I have very little experience with the Resident Evil franchise. The first RE game I ever played was the remade RE1 for the GameCube. The graphics were amazing, and I really wanted to like the game, but I just couldn't get past the horrible control system that forced you to re-orient yourself every time you stepped into a new room. So if you're one of those people that actually liked the old system, and doesn't deal with change well, I guess I can understand why you wouldn't like RE4.

However, if you're like me, and you've always wanted to play Resident Evil games but have been turned off by the poor controls, this game is the answer to your prayers. Why? Because they've completely revamped them! In fact, not only have they corrected the problems with the controls and the camera, they've made them a shining example of perfection. You now have total freedom to run, jump over obstacles, climb ladders, kick ladders down, peform melee attacks, etc. You also have a wide range of weapons at your disposal, and an excellent aiming system. The only thing you don't have is peripheral vision. And I believe this was done on purpose. Since you can only see directly in front of you, you have to constantly worry about someone sneaking up on you. And they WILL try to sneak up on you, and it will startle the @#$% out of you when it happens.

If they had just corrected the camera and controls, that alone would have been enough to make this a very good game. However, the improvements go far beyond that. This game, more than any other I have ever played, has an extremely cinematic feel. I really feels as though you are playing your way through a horror movie. And not some cheesy horror movie, either, but a smart, sophisticated, edge-of-your-seat thriller. The music provides just the right sense of tension and suspense. The cutscenes are executed brilliantly and flow seamlessly into the gameplay since they use the in-game graphics engine.

Now let's talk about the single most amazing thing about this game: the pacing. Capcom must have spent a long time working out the speed and timing of the various enemies, the hero's movements, the frequency of enemy attacks, the frequency of puzzles, etc., because it is all PERFECT. When you think you've finally found a safe haven, BAM!, you get ambushed. When you think it might be safe to walk, you suddenly have to sprint. When you're totally overwhelmed with enemies, you'll find a way to escape. Because the pacing is so perfect, nothing in the game ever gets tiring. There's just the right mix of shooting, exploring, running, and puzzles to keep you constantly on your toes and continously enthralled.

I thought critics were exaggerating when they called this the "best survival horror game of all time" and "game of the year for 2005". But, amazingly, they're not exaggerating. Try this game for yourself and you'll see.

P.S. - This game is strictly for adults. No parent in their right mind should buy this game for their child.

The Only True Horror is That Capcom once again Screwed Over The GameCube Fans and gave this Title to Sony

I just finished playing this game about 30 minutes ago. I can easily say that this is my favorite game of the past year, in fact this is my favorite game in recent memory. It took my just over 22 hours to complete the game. For those of you who are familiar with Resident Evil games will know that that is waaaaaay longer than any other installment. The beauty of it is that the game lasts 20+ hours and NEVER GETS OLD. I'm not sure how they did it, but perhaps they made a pact with satan. Once you start to get used to fighting the villagers at the beginning they add a new element to keep things fresh. Once you start getting into the core of the game it's pretty much set piece after set piece. These pieces are always original and exciting. Plus the treasure hunting and selling and buying with the merchant add all new layers to this game. I also love the interactive cinemas where you occasionally have to hit L + R or A + B to perform actions during a movie. This keeps you involved constantly throughout the game. I was a little nervous when I heard that you had to escort a girl through some portion of the game because I had horrific flashbacks of "working with" Natalya in the Goldeneye game. This in no way resembles that. Ashley is an intelligent NPC that follows commands, stays behind you, and even ducks if you point a gun at her! I can't describe much else because I don't want to ruin any aspects of it. If you are a fan of Resident Evil games or the Survival Horror genre or games in general then I reccommend you go out and buy Resident Evil 4 immediately!

Most Dissapointing Game of the Year Award!

What a sad way to start the year indeed. As a true Resident Evil fan and an old-time gamer, I expected more from Capcom. But as it turned out, this was the biggest flop in the Resident Evil saga since Dead Aim and Outbreak.

Where to start? First and most important of all is the fact that this is NOT a true survival/horror game despite the veil which has been vested upon it to decieve the gamer. Resident Evil 4 is an action/shooter game.

Graphics: This is an important element in games at this point in video game history, especially since it was released for the Nintendo Gamecube system. The graphics are not as good as you'd might expect. Resident Evil for GC and Resident Evil 0 have better graphics than this game. I would've sacrificed graphics for having a a good Resident Evil game, but RE4 can't even deliver the former, much less a decent game. The camera now navigates with you, however I feel that the fixed camera is much better and much more challenging than its counterpart. It is a key element of Resident Evil; a trademark of the series if you must.

Story: This is NOT a Resident Evil game. The ONLY way to even remotely relate the Resident Evil epic tale to this game is through two of its characters: Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong. This is the only element in the game that relates to Resident Evil. Without these two well known names the game would collapse and its true facade would be exposed and, of course, would have a very different title. Secondly, it lacks the KEY element of Resident Evil: zombies and Umbrella! There are zombie-like creatures in this game but they are being controlled by a cult. Yes, I know what you're thinking, what does this have to do with Resident Evil? Well, absolutely nothing. The plot of the game is as follows:

Leon Kennedy travels to a village in Europe(in Spain) to rescue the President's daughter who was kidnapped by this cult striving for world domination.

Sound like Resident Evil? The setting takes place in a remote, rural area, a castle, and an island. The game gives you the feeling that you are in medieval times, which is fun, except that the story takes place in 2004. Oops! About the only time you realize you're in modern times is in the latter part of the game. The story is only half decent if it stands by itself. It mediocre, simple, and boring.

Gameplay: You can now buy weapons from a mystical, hooded creature with a deformed face, red eyes, claws and a weird sense of humor, who sets up shop everywhere you go and who happens to own every weapon necessary to progress through the game. He(rather one of his buddies) also sets up a shooting range for target practice that is so comical it completely throws out the window the supposed, illusional fear factor of the game. Of course, you'll need money to purchase firearms, surely enough you can find money scattered throughout the land and by killing villagers and other creatures. You can even customize weapons by buying stats and adding parts to your guns. Oh and the game plays in a wide-screen video format; like a movie, wow... The main problem with gameplay is the fact that you are LED by the hand throughout the entire game. Long gone are the days where you scanned through a room or area searching for items, this game tells you when to press the A button for items or to jump, duck, etc. You are able to make decisions during cut scenes by franatically smashing the A button, or A+B or L+R...Oh how challenging!

The puzzles are elementary-school like--simple as the come. Let me give you and example: Take 4 foods; bread, meat, dessert, and a glass of wine. Let the game tell you the order in which they must stand by doing an analogy of life--from birth until death--and set up a shooting range with the pictures of these foods and let you shoot them in the correct order. The game even helps you out when you are to insert a key item into a hole, with key items such as circle emblems and recessions in the wall with the same shape, it would be a shame not to be able to figure out where it goes. The menu even opens up automatically and points you to the item you are to use. This game is not challenging in this area.

Your mission: The main mission of the game is to rescue the president's daughter, so everything revolves around this prime objective, making the game boring. The bosses are very easy as you are given the opportunity to purchase a rocket launcher at any point in the game; again, mediocre. Even using upgradable weapons proves to be easy. Heck, I defeated the final boss with my trusty shotgun and two giant...err I don't want to spoil it.

This game took a complete 180 degree turn and many of the the new elements are creative but THEY ARE NOT "RESIDENT EVIL". I think this is the major flaw of the game, that it should not have been called Resident Evil 4 because of its separation from the parameters set by the series. Under a different title this game could have been more suitable for release, unfortunately, it won't enjoy much success for a long time. A good title for this game could've been "The President's Daughter" or "The Cult: The story of a guy named Leon who travels to a village to rescue the President's Daughter but has nothing to do with Resident Evil."

This game reminds me of every other action game out there, it is like a freak cross between Primal, Maximo, Splinter Cell, or any of your typical action-shooters. It also borrows many elements from Resident Evil:Dead Aim. What's worse of all is that the game ending leaves the plot open to continuation, so we can probably expect to see more of this piece of mediocrity.

Change might be good but only when it's for the best, unfortunaltely this is not the case with Resident Evil 4. The true Resident Evil 4 was Resident Evil Code:Veronica X as it is a direct sequel to previous Resident Evil games. This just-released RE4 adds very little, if anything at all, to the story. Also, this games DOES NOT "fix any other problems that Resident Evil had" as another reviewer said, because it had not one worth mentioning. What problems? Camera angles? Get used to it. Too difficult to avoid enemy attacks? Not enough ammo? Not enough health items? If you can't handle the TRUE Resident Evil games then they are not for you.

If we were to rank all Resident Evil titles ever released from best to worst, RE4 would be at the very bottom. Heck, it wouldn't even be on the Resident Evil list!

I highly recommend you AVOID this game if you are a Resident Evil gaming veteran or a fan of suvival horror.
Save your money. You've been warned.
