First off the whole series of RE is great even though there are mixed feelings concerning them. I for one have the entire series and I haven't even finished playing RE0 yet. I keep playing other games so I don't always stick with the games. But enough of talking about the other games of RE. I'm here to tell you that if you want to be scared out of your mind, turn off the lights, turn up your volume and listen to everything around you and you will feel like you are actually there.

The first scene had me hooked and wanting more so that can tell you that this game will be one of the greatest in NGC history. The graphics are so realistic you think that the characters are really real. Also it is very hard to put down the controller even for a minute to use the facilities ;-) The use again with two people to control at times is just as good as RE0. You will laugh at somethings and others will leave you so frustrated that you want to bash your head against the wall to clear your head. I only made it a little ways with the game but I'm not that far. I will have to start the series over again so I can get a better feel for them.

The sound is awesome. There is very little for me to tell you about it other than play it to find out.

Gameplay is addicting and difficult to let go leaving you wanting more even when you aren't playing it.

From the very beginning this game will hook you in with its new formula of survival horror. Some say its more Action/Horror but I guarantee that you are trying to survive horros like: legions of villagers, gigantic bosses, monks, chainsaw wielding freaks, prisoners with claws that make Wolverine's seem imputent, and much much more than I will spoil here.

The tosses out the old and brings in a new age of Survival Horror, the series has needed an overhaul for years! Purists will always whine about any change made, they would rather see a franchise run itself into the ground by repeating the same formula with a new coat of paint. But to re-invision a franchise and make it better is what keep players interested in buiying the games. CAPCOM is understandably excited about this game, and GameCube owners over the age of 17 should defintely buy it if they like gore, guns, and a challenge.

In a way I find myself reminded of old-school CAPCOM action games, because the game is obviously a game for once instead of trying to mimic a too realistic model that isn't as fun to play. For instance there is this demon guy you can buy weapons and upgrades from found in different locations throughout the game. When you kill things, they leave behind ammo, heal items, or sell items. The end of each chapter sees a screen totalling your kills, hit percentage, and other stats that you can try to perfect. This is what gaming is all about people! It boils down to one of the best games ever made, and if you don't have a Cube (too bad) it will eventually be out for PS2 this fall/winter.

You can't say Resident Evil 4 isn't Resident Evil because theirs no Umbrella or Zombies. The game takes place 6 YEARS AFTER Umbrella was destroyed. No Umbrella, no zombies, got it.

A Serious Flaw

Let me begin by saying I am a long time fan of the Resident Evil series of games. RE4 is the best of them so far and in its balance of elements, sets a new standard by which other video games should be judged.

Having said this the game contains TWO flaws, one minor and one major. The minor flaw is the control setup, especially the onscreen control prompts, that requires some getting used to.

The second flaw is the final action escape scene. This scene has been made so difficult and so frustrating that even after satisfactory completion there is no sense of satisfaction.
This is truly a remarkable game design flaw and I'm surprised that the manufacturer let it through.

I have played this game through once and have almost completed a second game from the "original" beginning. This game will obviously give hours of pleasant entertainment and it deserves to be strongly recommended to gamers.

This is a first rate game with a third rate ending.

Back in 2002, I bought a GCN to play the Resident Evil remake. I loved it, it was the next best thing to the best Resident Evil ever - the first one for PSOne. It was scary, it was beautiful, it rocked! And, by the way, I bought my first videogame, a PSOne, just to play Resident Evil. Then came Resident Evil Zero. Some people I know stopped playing the series just because of that game. It wasn't a bad game at all, but it could've been so much better, it disappointed fans. Suddently, it seemed like that slow, zombie formula wasn't working for most fans, and CAPCOM didn't want the series to die, so they released Resident Evil 4.
First of all, it shouldn't be called Resident Evil, because it has very little to do with the games we've been playing for years. If you think that's a good thing, if you were tired of the zombies and the same old formula, buy this game right now. If you're like me, and you loved that old formula... As good as this game can be, you will most likely miss the old games. RE4 is near perfection visually, I have no complains about that. Controls are enjoyable most of the time (the new aiming system is harder, but more rewarding), enemies are intelligent, the soundtrack is nothing speaial but voice acting was very well done. The game is technically top-notch. Is it fun? Well, yes. Some difficult parts here and there (few but intelligent puzzles), but it's overall fun. If you're worried about the lengh and you don't want to spend 50 bucks for a few hours, don't worry. You won't beat this game under 20 hours, unless you hurry a lot. No matter if you hated or loved the old RE games, you have a very good chance of enjoying this one. Nice extras after you beat the game shall keep you entertained. Don't wait for the PS2 version in 2005, buy it right now. It's not the best Resident Evil ever, but it's a different experience you won't forget.

5 stars and my highest reccomendation.

Even though I beat this game in four days, it took me a little over 20 hours. This is no doubt the best Resident Evil game.
Its such a fresh new game, people not familiar with the series can pick it up and play without hesitation. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT wait for the ps2 version. If you have a Gamecube, get it NOW, don't wait nine months to get the PS2 version. Do you really want faultier graphics and a load-time that is twice as long?? Even if you don't have a Gamecube, it's the best deal at $97 (Wal-Mart price). The graphics will blow you away, and they totally blow Halo 2 out of the water. The new enemies are not zombies, they are Spanish villagers affected by the Los Plagos, a parasite created by the Los Illuminados (hence the Spanish names, this is because the story takes place in Spain.) The Los Plagos grows inside of the villagers until thye reach a point of madness and chaos (that was bad). They are fast, they have weapons, they duck, dodge, climb, run, whatever it takes to kill you. They yell out Spanish, which creates a more unsettling environment. These villagers are called the Ganado, and this means "livestock" in Spanish (this is why when they are killed, they rot into the ground.) Usually, escorting somebody in a game is diffucult and annoying, but in this game, Ashley will hide, stay put if you tell her to, crouch when you aim your weapon, and she is not slow. The end boss is quite dissapointing, though. He was easier than Lord Salazar. Thanks a ton for reading my review, I hope this will help you in your search the right game. This is NOT for young kids. They will be frightened by some of the monsters and scares so it is reccomended for 13 and up. It also contains intense violence, and some language (only the "s" word and "h" word mainly.) Thanks.

Definitly the Greatest Game of the Year

"1998, I'll never forget it"... yes we know already. The introduction of Resident Evil 4 tells about the incident in Raccoon city. The game takes place six years after the destruction of Raccoon city. Leon S. Kennedy is now a U.S. Secret Service agent. He has been assigned to protect Ashley Graham aka the presidents daughter, only one problem... she's missing. So you have to go to a village in Europe and find her.

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

Now I know what your thinking, how in the world could this game be great if these people aren't zombies. Three words, They're not human. So if they're neither zombie nor human then what are they. Well for one, they're not aliens, they're villagers with a parasite in them. This parasite puts them under the control of Lord Salazer (I may be wrong).

Graphics 9.8/10: The graphics in this game are so beautiful, they're almost real.

Audio 9.0/10: The gunshots, the 'swish' of the knife, everything is great. The only downside is that there's some language. Sometimes the 's' word, once they say B*tch, and once they say both d*mn and h*ll.

Gameplay 10/10: Wow. The gameplay is amazing. The scene were Leon gets trapped in the house w/ the chainsaw guy outside is so amazing. Even better is when Leon, Luis, and Ashley get trapped in a house with I think every villager surrounding it. The aiming in this game is good, but not always accurate. The variety of guns just make you want to use them all. Very fun.

Replay Value 9.5/10: This game has many unlockables. The Unlockables are:
- Proffesional mode aka Round 2
- New Weapons (Chicago Typewriter, Mathilda, Infinite Launcher, and more)
- Assignment Ada mini-game
- The Mercenaries mini-game
There's more that I haven't listed.. I think

Overall 38.3/40: This game is definilty worth buying. I recommend this game for at LEAST 12 and up because of all the blood and gore. Some images may be too disturbinig for 10 year olds so when you play this make sure no one will freak out.

go buy a gamecube now
