When I bought this game i thought it was going to be a fun game and u know what, i was right. This game takes a shooting game to a whole different level. The game is like the other Resident Evils but they added some new stuff to it. The battle sequences is a shoot and aim style of fighting. U can not shoot and run simultaneously. When you see an enemie u have to aim your gun(u can not move at all when your aiming) then shoot. The camera is in 2nd person view which shows a view of somebody maybe looking at u behind u or beside u.
You start off in a mysterious village where you think the President doughter is being held captive. The only weapons u have in your attachment case is a pistol, 10 handgun ammo(which you have to use very wisely until you get the shotgun) and a first aid spray. You also have a knife which is used for smashing open vases/crates/barrels, and for last resort a weapon. The only way to attack with your knife is horizontally in which Leon(the main character) swings it like a pendulum. I was dissapionted about the knife feature. I wish you could go up to a zombie(who are really inicent people that are affected with a plague that is growing inside them)when there are stunned and stab them instead of swinging your knife horizontally which the only real way it does damage is if the person gets VERY close to u in which they already stabbed with their knife or axe. That definately ticked me off.
The game overall is very realistic in fighting with firearms so it is not cartoony(for example, the ratchet and clank series)which makes the game very hard. The hardest part if when your reloading in where u CANNOT move at all.
The game graphic engine and fighting engines are amazing and people who like shoot em ups will love this game. In the game the enemies are pretty smart when it goes to killing Leon. The game is very scary definately when the setting turns to night and where it is hard to see. The guns are awesome and very well designed. Some of the shotguns if you get it very strong and kill up to 5-6 enimes at once!!! And yes u can get a rocket launcher which literally blows the living hell out of whoever or whatever u piont it at. U can get grenades(incendiary, flash and frag grenades)too. To wrap up my review ill put the pros and cons of this game.

pros
-excellent graphics engine
-fighting system is literally addicting and spectacular
-good variety of weapons you can attain
-bosses not too easy, not too hard
-people who like Halo 2 will love this game
-nominated game of the year, in 2006

cons
-knife is pratically worthless
-the voice acting and punchlines between teh bad guys and good guys are VERYYY CORNY!

Resident Evil 4 is definately is not for everyone. This game is extremly violent. There are blowing off of heads(both of Leon and enemies) a good amount of blood, ripping out of spinal cords and limbs,(there is a boss who rips out of spinal cord and tries to attack u without it), and everything you'll expect of a horror game. I hope you enjoy this game!

Best Game To Date for the GC

Right as I was losing faith in the Gamecube, I was delightfully surprised by Resident Evil 4.

GRAPHICS 10/10

The graphics in this game were astounding. The Gamecube isn't exactly a graphics powerhouse, but Resident Evil 4 pushed it to its breaking point and did a great job. Every action is smooth and defined, whether Leon is crashing through a window, jumping over a fence, dodging enemies, or simply reloading his gun.

SOUND 10/10

The background music was subtle, but effective. It fit the game and got you into the mood. The voice acting was very well done. It was great to not have to mute the TV when a particular character's voice came screeching through the speakers, and instead get thrown into the action. In Resident Evil 4, you are faced with enemies called Ganados, which are the game's zombies, and they make pretty cool sounds. Instead of grunts and moans, they make cries to alert others to your location.

STORY 10/10

The story was pretty much flawless. Rescue the girl, don't get killed in the process. It was a nice stretch from recent Resident Evil games, especially playing against some smarter zombies. Cutscenes kept you on your toes so Leon wouldn't get chopped into tiny pieces or pulled into the bottom of a lake.

GAMEPLAY 10/10

Fighting parasitic zombies? What could be greater than that? The controls are easy to learn, a must for a game that thrusts you into the action pretty fast. Zombies are now replaced with the inhabitants of a European country that have been infected with a parasite, making them MUCH smarter. I once climbed into a belltower and almost died because of molotov cocktails that they had tossed up. Many of the games features are realistic, like the shaking of Leon's gun when he aims, or his heavy breathing when you make him run too long.

REPLAYABILITY 9/10

There are many secrets to unlock after you beat the game, especially in the PS2 version. Some of them include all new costumes, guns, and playable characters for mini games. The only reason I dock it one point is that it's not exactly a RPG, where there are levels to gain and such. Other than that, I'd give it a 10.

OVERALL 10/10

This game is a must buy for any Gamecube owner.

Perfecting Resident Evil

Nintendo's Gamecube has been languishing in mediocrity and franchises ever since it was released several years ago. It has needed a cutting edge, mature, exclusive game for a long time, and Capcom thankfully delivers with Resident Evil 4. The newest entry in the venerable survival horror series, Resident Evil 4 is a welcomed departure from the usual kiddy fare Gamecube offers.

Resident Evil 4 mostly succeeds because it's so unlike the past Resident Evil games. The problematic controls and limited camera angles that have plagued every installment have been completely redone; the backgrounds are no longer pre-rendered, instead rendered in 3-D, and the camera follows the player with an over-the-shoulder view, much like in Max Payne.

The inventory system has also been improved. In previous Resident Evil games, you were given a very limited amount of room to store weapons, ammo, and keys. Resident Evil 4 lets you hold almost every item you'll ever need, and it lets you hold unlimited puzzle pieces, treasures, and keys. As a matter of fact, there's so much inventory space, that the infamous "inventory box"-the item storage bin that was always so inconvenient to manage in previous games-doesn't even exist in "Resident Evil 4."

There are many other improvements as well. Numerous save-points abound, so that you'll be able to save every twenty or thirty minutes. Similar to "Halo", checkpoints have been implemented, which makes dying much less frustrating. And, taking a nod from RPGs, you collect money throughout Resident Evil 4, allowing you to buy and upgrade weapons.

The streamlined improvements of Resident Evil 4 are important because they complement the gameplay so well. If the interface hadn't substantially improved over its predecessors, Resident Evil 4 wouldn't succeed as brilliantly as it does.

Resident Evil 4 is like a continuous stream of the best action sequences from movies put into a videogame. Within the first ten minutes, your character, Leon Kennedy, has to fight off dozens of diseased inhabitants of a small European town where the President's daughter has been kidnapped. And for the next twenty hours-by far the longest length of any Resident Evil game-the action never lets up. While this could have been monotonous, fighting enemy after enemy, the pacing is quick and changing, never using the same enemy too many times, and always introducing a new weapon just as an old one is becoming tiresome.

The graphics are the best the Gamecube has to offer. Everything in the game-the characters, the interiors, the weapons, the buildings-is accented by an outstanding lighting system, where shadows respond realistically to muzzle flashes, torches, and flashlights. The outdoor environments are expansive and the indoor environments unique and well-decorated. The character's faces are the most detailed of any current console game.

Resident Evil 4 falters in its plot and voice-acting, but this certainly doesn't detract from the action in any way. Resident Evil has acquired a reputation for campy, over-the-top acting, and Resident Evil 4 is no different. But the excellent pacing and action of Resident Evil 4 make it one of the best titles available on Gamecube.

The best Game cube game I've played, period.

I don't consider myself a great gamer, but I have been playing game for about two decades now. Maybe I am seriously out of practice but that does not explain why I died NINE times in the first town alone. Not the first level, I'm talking about the initial set of buildings. Those towns people seriously kicked my a$$.

I finally made my way into a building and blocked myself in where I thought I'd be safe. Wrong! The intelligent townsfolk put a ladder to a second story window, chased me down stairs where a power tool-wielding maniac separated my head from my body in a most graphic fashion.

Don't give up if this happens to you. After I figured out a few vital offensive moves, I've managed to not die quite so often. One good tip is if you are confronted by a large group of enemies, run away through a small passageway (stairs and hallways work well), turn around and as the crowd funnels towards you start shooting them in the legs. This will cause them to fall down, then you can shoot them in the head while they are down. I know it sounds cheap but it will keep you alive.

I would not recommend this for young children or any adult who is easily creped out or offended. But, if you are looking for a game unlike any other out there (the boss battles are out of this world), with great graphics (the best I've seen on the game cube) and crazy good story (scary as heck and well acted too), step right up, this is for you.

Intense, intutive, and incomparable. No game has ever achieved such top notch graphics and a atmosphere that screams desimation. Through out the game your heart will pound in your chest and ocassinally get ripped out. Every aspect of previous resident evil games, that may have prevented you for playing the slightly above average series have been fixed and and now the formula has been perfected. Bad camera angles used to induce fake trills? gone. Rez-e 4's over the shoulder camera perfectly creates a view point of the action but still gives you a closterphoebic feel when being sourouned by the new intense A.I.. No slow shambaling zombies to be found here. the villagers and latter cult members of the los illminadous constantly attack in large groups, sourouned you, put ladders back up that you kick down, throw their weapon such as lit dynamite, and the list goes on. no longer do you control your character like a tank. you now have the freedom to move Leon in any direction with the greatest of ease. Welcome aspects in the previous games are also back such as the very handy quick turn. many peoeple complain about the lack of strafing in the game. This is not a FPS it is a first person adventure game much like the excellent Metroid prime Echoes wich you should also purchase. a strafing feature would make this game to easy.on that note the diffculty is just right. You will die .....alot but it never takes you to a point were you will put your controllers in the E.R. One of the best new features is the ability to buy and upgrade weapons. Nothing compares to the maxed out magnum with its 50 damage rating. can't beat a boss? you can travel back to the nearest merchant and buy health or up grade your weapon somemore and ripp that boss a new one. Another great aspect is the bosses are always a challenge and intense. Each with a interesting action comand to be put to good use. example? nock over a large bottle to Co2 (or is it anti freeze) to temperaraly encase the target in ice then proceed in tossing a icendenairy grenade right in his face. The games has so many extradinary scenes you will lose count. In the game the A button is your best friend as it is used to do some many different things that with out you would not survive. Stun a villager with a shot to the face then run up on him and deliever a round house kick to the face. Voice acting is deleiverd exceptionally well and having the player need to hit either AB or LR during the CG scenes to make leon react is a great way to keep players that unlike me lose interest during these parts. So think twice about dropping the control and wiping the sweat off your hands. with resedent evils 4 extradinary look and grave yard on a full moon during a dark night with out a light in sight atmosphere, intense and intuitive gameplay nothing can touch its apeal or the bar that has been set.

Once apon a time, a company named Capcom went out on a ledge, and created a game that brought survival horror to the masses. However, after the second Resident Evil title, the series started to head down hill, not because the games started to get bad, but because all the games were next to the same, and nearly every survival horror game released after Resident Evil, FELT like Resident Evil, which helped the games get old rather quickly. However I am proud to say that the series that kick-started the genre is the same one that will bring it back from the dead. Take every Survival Horror cliche in the book and simply forget it. Slow pacing, long, drawn out puzzles, repetitive gameplay, predictible boss batles, bad controls, horrible voice acting, fixed camera angles... all of it. Gone. Resident Evil 4 does away with the slow pacing, puzzles that make no sense and tank controls that have defined the genre for so long. The game is fast... very fast, and it snow-balls as the game gets faster and more frentic. Enimies no longer stumble twards you with their arms out-streached, but run after you with frightening speed, brandish and use/ throw weapons, and communicate to take you down with cooridination. You will quickly learn that out in the open is not a good place to be, as the game's new enemies will jump at you from seemingly no where and quickly surround you. You will take refuge inside of a multitude of buildings, and the enemies will come after you. They will tear down doors, set up laders to climb through windows, and come after you in large numbers. however, you have the tools to even the odds... Ammo is far more plentiful, and weapons are more fantastic and easier than ever to use. With a new "over the shoulder" camera and a laser targeting system, you can take out enemies in different ways.Is one holding an axe? shoot him in the hand and he won't be. Are they running at you? shoot them in the knee caps and they won't be moving fast for long. Up close and in your grill? Aim for the head for a quick kill (untill the sun goes down... then a head shot might be a bad idea, and you will find out why). Because of all these options (which building to take refuge in, enemy AI, weapons and tactics for them) no fire fight will ever play out the same (which adds to the replay value in a way you can only immagine if you have played the game... it's that much fun) Because of the frightening speed that the game moves along at, you will always have your heart pounding, and it might be easy to overlook some things in the game. Things like photo-realistic graphics, perfect character models, character diologe that never feels cheesy, and sounds like it was writen with a western audience in mind. Things like some of the best sound witnessed outside of a movie theater, with crashing thunder and lightning, blood chilling chainsaw whines and hisses, and splintering boards and cracking wood as Ganado (the game's main enemy)break through your barrier of refuge. The game's story, while slow to get going, is every bit as fantastic and movie-like. While I won't spoil any of the great story, I will tell you that you won't be dissapointed, wether you are a long time fan of the series, or a first-timer. In conclusion, the game is a load of fun, and to be honest, you probably wouldn't even know it to be a Resident Evil title, were it not for the label on the front of the box, and some returning characters. Everything that has held the Survival Horror genre back for so long, Re4 finially puts them to rest. With an invintory that is more forgiving, controlls that will suit everyone, and enough heart pounding action and thrills to keep even the most hard-core adrenaline junky satisfied, RE4 might very well be one of the best titles to be released this year. Don't let the demons of the series' past scare you away, as you would be making a mistake. This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest survival horror titles to have ever been released, and one you need to try, because it is unlike anything else you have ever played.

The Best Resident Evil Game Ever!

Almost a perfect game. The graphics are top notch and are absolutely stunning to look at. The control scheme as been heavily improved upon the old tired RE formula to a much easier control set-up. The gameplay is the best there ever could be for horror games. The escort missions don't even bother you. Its just so fun. The AI is much much smarter and the button pressing during cut-scenes make you feel much more invloved and keep you on the edge of your seat, I don't get scared by the horror genre and this is no exception but this is the best of its kind especially since the camera angles are good. The bosses are very very cool as well and it'll excite you. I have few complaints 1. You can't move while firing which is huge for me and 2,. The acting is pretty bad. This is a buy without a doubt. Now go by a cube and get RE4! What PS2 version? Don't wait! Besides it'll have worse graphics and its a good guess it'll have long load times. Trust me this is one of the best games of 05'

Well not everything, still the best graphics and excitement, but forgetthe fact that recent playstation2 versions sucked. (Dead Aim and Outbreak). Capcom apparently saved the best for GC. This is by far the best Resident Evil game. I have played all of the games in the series, all of it. Even gameboy advance versions. I can tell you that this game will have you drool over it. Its very long and very satisfying. The bosses are so fun to beat, they are hard but fun to beat. The best feature for me is that you get to continue from the same or a near place you died. You get to buy weapons, you get to interact with charcters. I mean you really have to play it to understand. I didnt buy it at first, i rented it( i had to wait alot) but it worths buying.

this is the best game i have probably ever played. the graphics were wonderful. when you walk into the little village and see the cows, with flies all around, with a shine of the cows coat visable, and constant drool falling from the cows mouths, thats when you know they really took their time to make this game special. i swear i could almost smell the stench of the animal. the gameplay is never tedius. there are many different boss fights, which are all origional, and done to perfection. there aare no super hard puzzles, and blasting off the heads of your enemies is fun throughout the game. as the weapons get smaller and more powerful, the enemies change and also become stronger. the scenery is changed quite a few times so you never get tired of running through the same area over and over again. the game looks like a movie, but still has so many strong gaming qualities it's really the best out of both catagories, unlike games like final fantasy x, where it's all cinamatic, and no gameplay. the game is about 25 hours long, which is super long these days, and when i finished i just wanted to restart and keep playing. there are quite a few extra things that get unlocked after you beat it too. most of it i haven't tried because i'm playing through the games again right now. been a resident evil fan forever and this game never disapoints. familiar characters are always poping up, and it leaves you wanting to know when the release of resident evil 5 is coming. if there was ever a perfect game, this would be it.

~rE\/;e\/\/~

I just had the best time in January. It's the fresh start of a new year, the month that brung me the new season of "24", and a resolution that I made in that month to be a free-spirited citizen. Oh wait, that's also the month that released the new "Resident Evil 4" for the gamecube. Forget about the free-spirited promise, I was wasting what's left of my life, completely exhaust myself, and failing at the beginning of spring college playing non-stop at this revitalized, genuine sequel of a redundant creepi-fied series. I'm positive that almost every gamer was doing the same thing.

Leon S. Kennedy is back six years after Raccoon City was "sanitized" and Umbrella was finished (or are they?), and I get to play him as a special US agent going to a hispanic country in Europe to rescue the president's little girl. What could've been a simple save-the-damsel-in-distress job, he eventually had a run-in with the villagers. Not the wholsome, agriculture-crazed villagers anime fans seen in "Inuyasha", but villagers with the urge to kill him. They're vicious, strong, wise, and possibly seen the spanish-dubbed version of "Deadwood", since they seem to have the case of "Sweareng-itis", pun intended. They're not zombies, folks, they're corrupted beings. Not only must he save the President's daughter from harm, he must figure out why the hicks have gone muy loco. Honestly, as refreshing the story is and a few plot twists it has, the story isn't gonna win any awards, but the game itself can win alot of oscars.

Everyone should get the picture how great this game is: Excellent graphics with no FMVs whatsoever, nice aiming addition, cool split-second action buttons, blahdah-blahdah-slab. Unlike other people who rave the positives of this game, I'm gonna be a little creative and list the flaws that are in this game. Just because the game is great, it doesn't mean it's perfect. Onto the cornucorpia of flaws:

- The graphics may be excellent, but it's not flawless. This glitch happens ever so often, even when it's spontaneous. It's clipping. I have that funny glitch whenever my character's weapons magically go through walls or when one of the bad guys stabs me with a pitchfork through one. It's better when I don't fight bad guys in close combat, or else their motionless body might eat me. And I know I'm not the only one that likes to walk through a huge dead orge from their chest. Collision detections or collision issues are the real damage to the technical side of the visuals.

- Lack of death sequences, especially on Ashley. I have no problem escoring the Chief's little "ballistics" brat through some parts of the game (she's even helpful sometimes), and if she's dies, I usually degrade myself for letting her die so horribly. That didn't work for me, because no matter if she's stabbed, mutilated, or burned alive, her deaths' gonna be in the same damn christ-like beauty position every time. If Leon's gonna get his head decapitated, his face melted, and his neck chewed up, I expected the same results coming from her. Absurb.

- If I can have Leon reload his weapons on-screen, how come I can't do that on the menu screen? Intended? Might be, but it's ever more hasseling to reload when there's an enemy in front of me.

- The rewards I've gained are plentiful, maybe too plentiful. I got almost all of the secrets by beating it once, and nothing more. This game would've done better I earn some of these extras by skill. How's about gettin' the infinite rocket launcher when I beat the game in hard mode? CAPCOM should've made some redeemful use out of the ranking system this game had, but it's there for show. Replay value is filled, yet limited.

- This is, personally, the most obvious flaw this game has: it's not scary! Creepy, but not scary. The past RE games are clasutraphoic and severly limited to any human contact, not to mention the cheap boos, is what made the series kept me on the edge of my seat, not knowing what's gonna pop in and kill me. "Resident Evil 4" is free-roaming, and almost expansive to the point that I feel too comfortable on the enviroments I'm in. Sure, a blind baddie with claws barging from the cage is shocking, but nothing beats the shock of Mr. X suddenly crushing through the walls from the other room (RE 2 reference). Add that to the abundance of ammo and the aiming system, and the action-crazed gameplay makes the game itself lose the enviromental thrills that spices this horror meatball of a franchise.

Since I listed these flaws, are those going to change anyone's mind about buying this game? HELL NAW! There's just too much good in "Resident Evil 4" to consider it non-recommendable. There are so much variety in the game, and so much great moments (my favorite is when the villagers climbs up the ladder and I pointed the gun at their face when they appear on top, and I shoot them, hearing them yell as they fall to their doom; I laugh every time). It's worth noting for having the most intense boss battle ever in video game history (the water boss). With some RPG elements, vastly improved camera system, interactive cut-scenes, and a lengthy adventure (I beat it in 22 hours on my first try), "Resident Evil 4" is on the level of greatness. There's more room for improvement, and this may not add the fear to the horror gerne, but it certain adds a lot more fun to it.
