I am an extremely big fan of the resident evil series (mainly the storyline other than games) and i own every game, book, guide, whatever. anyway, Ive seen alot of full motion videos of this gamecube version and i already know its gonna be better than good. the graphics are amazing and diolouge is much better than the origanial. the characters have had alot of work done to them, for example they turned jill into one heck of a hot women [for a CG].
the videos are spectactular, the AI is so good its scary, you can be walking down a hall and all of the sudden the zombie you thought you killed in the other room comes crashing through the door and grabs you....
i reccomend this game to any fan of the series.
OMG The greatest game ever....well.

First of all the graphics are as hyped. they are beyond great. I recently bought a gamecube and this is one of the first games i bought. The graphics are jaw dropping. I also own a Xbox and this puts the Xbox to shame. Maybe the best looking game i have ever seen! The graphics are....No words can describe. AMAZING, SPECTACULAR! etc... etc.. So what's wrong with this game? The player controls are beyond bad. They are..Umm HORRIBLE! I haven't played the other RE games so i don't know if this is normal. But the player controls make the game harder then it should be. Push up you go down. Push down you go left..Blah Blah Blah, You really have to play the game to know what i'm talking about. Why a game developer would make a game with such Beautiful graphics and such Horrible gameplay is ....Well i have No idea, Bottom line Graphics beyond great(Xbox Eat your heart out) Gameplay Very..Very... Very BAD!.
Great game

Capcom's really done it this time. If you want the next games in the Resident Evil series you are going to have to get a Gamecube. This game just came out in Japan and is getting rave reviews. I recommend it to everyone, you cannot go wrong with this game. This is going to be the biggest title so far on the Cube.

I am a huge fan of the series having achived an A ranking in every RE and having read all of the books would confirm that. Anyway this truly is an epic stepped foward the thing that always annouyed me about the origianl was the graphics. Now that has been cleaned up this game is damn near perfect. With the all new battle system (The abality to use punches and kicks instead of guns and knives) that is just another reason to buy this master piece. My only complaint is that there are going to be alot less zombie dogs and killer bees to slaughter when you get the Rocket Launcher. You have no idea how much fun it is to have 3 or 4 zombie dogs charge at you only to die seconds later in a giant gory explosion.
AWSOME GRAPHICS!!! but thats about it

its a shame that a game with that much graphics is sooo bad. It is almost impossible to kill the zombies, the control style is the worste it could be, you can barely see the game unless you mess up your TV's brightness. In a nutshell the game has awsome graphics and cinimatics but everything else about the game is horrible.
horrible controls & gameplay, but still a best seller.. why?

its a shame that this game sells great just because of what people think of the graphics and due to the fact that it has "Resident Evil" as the title. (graphics are by the way, not that great. If capcom made this game for pc or even the xbox, the prerendered environments would have a lot more detail/texture and lighting effects & would play at a lot higher resolution.) the controls are simply awful & frustrating. i rented the game and thought it wasn't even worth the [$$$].
Eternal Darkness is MUCH MUCH more worthy of your money - BUY that game. it has an awesome script/storyline, the controls are so easy, the attack/magic system, the sanity meter, the weapons, and the puzzles make the gameplay so indepth and addictive (i dont usually consider graphics and sound to be that great of a factor in the game's overall rating, but the sound effects/music on this game are simply amazing - play it on a 5.1 surround system and you'll be astonished w/ the steps the developers took to get the impact/effect across to the gamer). i've played it for 30 hours and still haven't beat it and there's tons of incentive to play the game over and over again. i would say that it is the best single player gamecube game out there right now (best multiplayer - super smash bros).
but don't take my word for it. read gamespot.com's reviews for both games. there's a reason they rated gameplay for RE 7/10. i personally would have rated it 5/10 due to the frustration factor which won't even let me enjoy the story as the game progresses. i would rather play the game on the playstation1, honestly, i think the controls are better on it. RE for the GC reminds me of those wrestling games on all systems that sell so many copies (due to crazy fans) even though on most of them, gameplay doesn't quite add up. eternal darkness on the other hand got an overall 9.4/10. play both games, and you be the judge.
Resident Evi is the best GAME EVER!

Ive played alot of gamecube games now but Resident evil looks like a true classic to go down in history, i played the one for playstation and i have to admit the story is very similair but this is just on the edge of your seat graphics. The animation is amazing, the zombies actually walk to you before you can shoot them enough, more of a challenge. I would recommend getting this even if you havent even heard of Resident Evil before.

Capcom stated that they changed over 70% of the game for this Gamecube remake, and they were serious. I'm not just talking about the graphics, those have changed 100%. I'm talking about the area layouts, enemy placement, puzzle solutions, etc. And not just changed, it's been greatly added to. This is almost a new game unto itself. RE veterans, don't pass this up because it's "just RE1 with a facelift." That would be DUMB.

... Now, I will break the game down:
Graphics: State-of-the-art. If you're anticipating the same game, think again. The mansion is much bigger and completely redesigned. Lightning bursts through the initial hallway/foyer, the candle effects, curtains, and shadows are breathtaking. Do you remember when FMV/CGI/Cut-Scenes were vivid and real, then you had to go back to down-scaled characters? You wished it were real, didn't you? Well, Capcom has merged the two. The exceptional opening sequence, which explains more than its predecessor, is outstanding. What you see in a cut-scene is what you get in game graphics. Finally, we can play as we see. When the cut-scene is over, you look the same, and for the people who love the female characters, Jill Valentine will leave you drooling, whether in game, or cut-scene. If you thought Claire Redfield looked hot in Code: Veronica X, you've seen nothing. Capcom has trumped, and that's not to say Veronica's graphics were bad because they were visually impressive from the sway of her backside to everything else, but Capcom has outdone itself. You get the point. The level of detail is astounding both character-wise and setting. This is the most realistic game to date.
Game: Remember the zombie who looked at you when you entered the hallway off the dining room? The original was great, however, wait until you see this. I'm not going to give away any spoilers, but, there's something different in that area this time around. And also, in the main hall when you search it. I've just finished the original Resident Evil on PS2 (yes, yes, I know it was a PS1 game, but I played it on the PS2) and the mansion has expanded, darkened, and is more terrifying than ever. The basis of the mansion was kept, but vaguely. Remember, you have 2 mini-DVD discs carrying 1.6 GB of data each. The environment has changed and other than the fact that you're in the same place, it leaves its predecessor in the dust.
Gameplay: Once you get used to the Cube's controller, you're fine. You have a lot more options and realism in the gameplay. Remember how easy it was to shoot a zombie or pop his head? Not so easy anymore, you'll find this out when you encounter the initial zombie. Be careful, emptying a clip into it will not stop it without strategy. This is a mature game, and as I've preached, real as it gets. You are in this mansion, you must survive, you will feel the adrenaline rush and be scared. The game is hard. This is not Luigi's Mansion or the old Casper games.
Music/sound: Can so many things disturb you at once? The lightning, shadows, spinning fan blades playing tricks on you and now the Gothic, haunting score that sound like cries from the undead will rattle you. Sound effects are so realistic and intense, you'll think something's behind you.
Repeat Play: High, or ridiculously high. You still have Chris and Jill to play with different stories, but until Eternal Darkness and the next RE, you'll come back...you must come back...because it won't leave your mind.
Warning: I will put this on here for a reason. This is not a child's game, it's sick, twisted, disturbing, intense, graphic to the point of reality, and should be played by those its rated for, unless you parents out there act as parents while your child plays it. I'm not into politics, so that's up to you.
One last thing, because of the flack from my earlier review I'm gonna say this. Keep your PS2, but go get the GameCube and RE. Soul Reaver 2 and Blood Omen 2 can't hold a candle. RE:CVX for PS2 is a solid buy and not too shabby, but this is the ultimate experience. And, no...I do not work for Sony, Nintendo, or Capcom. I'm a published author/freelance writer and a die-hard gamer for life.

Resident Evil is a very famous game because it has never failed in giving us a spook. The Resident Evil for the Gamecube is finally here, and it gaved me the spook again. But this time it was the biggest and scariest spook I had ever received. The graphics make the game look so real that in times you will want to hide or scream. The zombies are so discusting that they will make you want to puke. The selection of weapons is very well-done as well as the characters. THE BEST AND MOST REALISTIC SCARIEST GAME AVAILABLE!!! IF YOU WERE SCARED IN ALONE IN THE DARK FOR PLAYSTATION, YOU BETTER WATCH THIS GAME!!! NOT A GAME FOR KIDS!!! Here is a small WARNING for any parent who wants to buy this game for his kids:
- Too much violence and spook
- It WILL scare your kids
- They will go to your bed at night
- They WILL CRY!!!!!!
(Naw, just kidding, it will only make you want to pee!)
Overall, a solid and excellent title. A MOST HAVE!!
Note: Don't think the warning part was true.
