Totally remade and even better than the original.

This is the first Resident Evil totally remade for Gamecube. It has the best graphics ever, even better than Final Fantasy X. It's all been changed so even old players of this game will have a new experience and new gamers will have an even better time. And remember, all Resident Evil titles are exclusive to Gamecube, so if you don't have a Gamecube, you might want to get one. Resident Evil will come with two discs because there are too many movies for it all to fit on one disc. You can either play as Chris or Jill so you can experience the full game with both characters. If you have or haven't played the first Resident Evil for Playstation, you should get this because it's a whole new experience from the original.

Too cool

You walk down the hallway, the lightning flashing, your shadow across the floor. You continue to walk, your beretta clenched into your hand, you head something up ahead, a moan? As you keep walking, you turn the corner, only to see nothing. As you walk slowly forward, sweat builds on your forehead as the creaking of your footsteps fill the hallway. As you pass a door, something burst through, trying you rip at your flesh. You jump out of your seat in fright as you fire 4 rounds into the thing. As it falls down, you let a sigh of relief. And then the thing gets back up.

There's no doubt about it, the original Resident Evil was pretty bad for the Playstation. Remember the horrible graphics and bad diolouge? For those who have never played the first, it had godaful diolouge such as," You are the master of unlocking." Well, let me tell you this, the new Resident Evil for the gamecube is FAR better than ANY of the other ones out currently. IT has better graphics, better voice acting, it's scarier, and you can accually stuggle with monsters, not just take damage. I have played every Resident Evil know, and let me tell you this:
Nothing beats the original mansion.
And nothing beats the original pumped up.
Diehard R.E. fans, you're probally saying to yourself "But I own the first, I know were everything is and when the monsters are there!" Well, Capcom has reilized this, and has made new rooms, more areas to explore, and monsters in different locations.
For people who haven't played played an R.E. game, this is a must play. If you aren't pooping your pants, you'll probally just be handing the controller to someone else. For extra fun, play it in your basement at night, with all lights out and the sound cranked up. For extra fun, give the controller to a family member who thinks R.E. games are "Silly or just not scary."
This is a must own. Even if you don't own a Gamecube, rent one with this game and play on a weekend. It's a must own, and a must play.
Sleep tight.

Simply Amazing!

Okay, those few people that are dissing on this game are just trying to get a rise. I hope you people know that. But anyway, this game blew me away. It's fun, scary as hell, and the graphics are GROUNBREAKING! I mean, sometimes it looks photo-realistic. Plus, the new defense items really add something. They help you get away from the zombies which, by the way, are not such pushovers this time. For example, if you have a grenade defense item set, and a zombie or dog gets you, you stick the grenade in its mouth and pull the pen. Poor zombies! lol This game is worth buying the Gamecube for, which this is exclusive to. So is the upcoming Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 4. This is by far and easily the best Resident Evil yet! Get it, you wont be dissapointed, unless you just hate Resident Evil. Amazing!

RE perfected at last.

Capcom has finally achieved what I believe they have been trying to do all along with Resident Evil as a series. Many elements of the game have been in need of a serious update for the longest time, and thankfully the vast majority of complaints that I have had with the title have been addresses.
I never completed the original. Although I found the story intriguing the horrible graphics, cheesy dialogue, and horrid voice acting put me off. I have finished every Resident Evil game since then and was desperate to find out exactly how the events of the original unfolded, but was not willing to suffer through the original. (RE 2 was the fist game that I had played of this series.)
When Capcom announced yet another version of RE 1 I rolled my eyes. I had been suckered into buying several different versions of RE 1 and 2 in an attempt to get the "definitive version". I was expecting another port with minimal improvements. However when the first screen shots came out I was blown away. I couldn't believe that a game could look this good, even on GameCube. I thought for sure that Eternal Darkness would be the pinnacle of graphics for the system. I was wrong, but that is not a bad thing as this game offers better graphics than any game on any system and proves that GCN is capable of quite a lot more than many anticipated. The game does not play in progressive scan, which is sad because this game would look great on a 16X9 screen, and does not support Dolby Pro Logic II, which would have been nice too, but it still offers the most stunning graphics of all time, and has great sound to go with it. While the music is sparse, it is moody and atmospheric, and while RE 2 and Code Veronica offer a better sound track, this one helps set the mood and tension. There are plenty of moments where your own shadow will be used against you... or is it your shadow? Sometimes it's not what you see that will spook you, but what you hear. Many new game play elements have been added, such as having to dispose of the bodies to prevent Zombies from being reanimated. A reanimated zombies ad tension... and drains ammo.
The only problem with the game is that the RE control set up is still intact. Capcom really needs to use the Devil May Cry engine more often. It couldn't hurt to be able to run away from those blasted Hunters more easily. But once you get used to it isn't that big of a deal. I killed Yawn without taking a hit. Using the C-stick I was able to dodge every attempt at a strike. Players can get good enough to go through this game without taking a hit.
The game is about 70% changed from the original, but enough of it is intact that MOST puzzles will be solvable on their own, which is good. However, many of the solutions, or the items you get for solving them are entirely different. If you've played through the original, even to the end, this game is still a must own for any GameCube owner.

Nicely done(use controll type C)

First off i would like to say that I have never played a Resident Evil game before, so I am writing this review on that standpoint.

The first thing anyone notices in a game is the graphics. They are increadible. The fixed camera views are very nicely done, and the shadows look great. The awesome character models blend in great with the jaw-dropping-holy...-thats-good-backgrounds. Plus, little quirks, like mirrors placed so you can see enemies around the corners, are also nicely done.

The controll is one to gripe about, but when set to controll type C, there is really no problem. The 180 degree turn around is a nice touch.

The sound not only adds to the atmosphere, but it is part of the game. Throughout the mansion, the music accompanies and scares you the whole way.If there is a creature (zombie, dog, whatever) nearby, you can hear him. If a zombie crashed through the window, you will know it. If you down him, but he is not really dead, you can hear him breathing. The game would not be the same without the music.

Gameplay is interesting. If you like mindless, non stop running and shooting, then this game is not for you. YOu are searching around a mansion, with long tense moments which lead up to one frightening climax every few rooms or so. Also, you have a limited inventory, so you have to think whether you need that health item or the ammo pack. You also will have to choose whether you need to down that zombie, or whether you need to run. This adds a new element of stradegy to the game, which makes it different from mindless-see-how-many-heads-you-can-blow-off game. Plus, THIS GAME IS SCARY AS MY MOM WITH A BAD HAIR DAY. You will jump like ... every five minutes. Oh yeah, its that scary.

Pros:
-Great graphics
-Nicely done music
-Well written story line
-takes some thought
-Long-2 little-miny-CD-thingies
-SCARY AS HELL

Cons:
-Can be frustrating because of limited saves
-Controll is a little tough...but I hear Controll type C works wonders...
-You will pee your pants at least 3 times

Pro or Con...you choose
-Hard
-Scary

All in all, if you like games wich involve non stop action with no thought at all in which you only have to kill and kill, than this is not for you. If you like games with good stories, and steady paced gameplay with a little stradegy involved...this is for you. If your in between...get it. If your in any categorie...get it. If you don't like this game...well you really are wacked out, then arent you?

One of the best games ever!

This game is really good. It has some of the best graphics I have ever seen. Ive beaten every Resident Evil game and by far, this is my favorite. You can also choose from two different characters (Jill or Chris) so it takes twice as long to beat it.
Definatly a five-star game!

Classic Revived

The Survival Horror genre's poster child: Resident Evil has been revived and recreated to give Gamecube gamers and old Playstation fans of the original another scare, and what a refreshing scare it is. The new Resident Evil has come back in full force for new gamers to enjoy while still giving more reasons for RE veterans to return, here's why..

Graphics: Right off the bat, new and old fans alike will notice the impressive graphical leap the series has taken shape to. The character models look outstanding to say the least and fans of the origianl will notice the drastic makeover to the mansion with the inclusion of added rooms and how the game does not load when you walk up any set of stairs. The monsters look graphically beautiful from the immensly detailed Hunters down to the gaping wounds found in the zombies, I foreworn this is not for those with weak stomachs.

Sound: The Voice acting is well done and eclipses the pitiful acting of the original ten fold. The dialouge also changes a bit to remove the 'cheeziness' found in the first game. There isn't much sound in terms of music, but the moans of zombies to the surprise shattering glass of an intruding monster will have you looking over your shoulder more often than not.

Difficulty: The difficulty in the game is challenging at times but not overwhelming. Some of the puzzles require a bit more brain power than others but nothing to difficult. You may find yourself without any ammo at times though if you play recklessly and that would raise the challenge more than it should be. BE CONSERTIVE and don't shoot everything you see ALL THE TIME.

Gameplay-the main reason: Though RE may seem to be the same game from the Playstation age, make no mistake, this Resident Evil is NOT A REHASH of the original with a pretty face. The new version is packed with a new intersting side story, brand new locations outside and in within the mansion, and a new combat feature that uses defenses items to keep zombies and other monsters from grabbing and damaging you. The combat overall though is similar to the original with auto-aiming and now has the much needed 180 spin. Most item and enemy locations have been changed since the original and the puzzles have been revamped to make playing the new version as fresh as possible.

The only complaint I would have is that the control would take a little to get used to, especially if you are used to Playstation controls, but the transtion to the Gamecube controller is well executed. The replay value is also not that high, though the game does include interesting extra modes to raise the replay a little but not much.

Overall, Resident Evil is a must-have for any Gamecube owner as this is the only real killer-app for the Gamecube besides Super Smash Bros. Melee. It will keep you at the edge of your seat and delivers spectacular gameplay for old and new fans and will have you waiting anxiously for the next conversion. Resident Evil is worth every penny you spent for it and then some, please purchase, you'll be glad you did! :)

This is a very good game. It is scary and has very good graphics. One problem was the puzzels. They take a long time and sometimes you do not know what to do. I suggest buying the startegy guide with this game. Overall I would give it a 9 out of 10

This is THE BEST resident evil EVER!

I can't believe how much i got hooked onto this game. It was like i needed to master it. The first time I played it, it was VERY scary. And so was the music. One reason pobably was that it was at night and dead silent. And i like the fact at how you blow off zombies' heads.( but only if your lucky! or with a powerful weopon) and the crimson heads look really cool. And the puzzles weren't all that tough. You just have to hit the pause and THINK about it for a moment of two. If you like survival horror games, you'll love resident evil 1!
