NICE!!

The first RE game I ever bought was the Dual shock version of RE:2 for PSX back when I was about 9. I was scared shitless. But now (I'm 14 now) RE has become my favorite Horror(not the scariest, but most fun of horror genre) Video Game series. I've PLAYED the origional Resident Evil about a year ago, this is the Revised version of it. WAY better graphics, I THINK there's a new gun or two. This game makes you jump a few times, espically when your outside...at night...in the forest...BOO! I reccomend buying and beating Zero first, as they will interlock and you will understand the story. Also try RE:Really good graOutbreak for PS:2. phics and surviving with 3 other people makes it fun, but less scary. Anyway, RE:1 (revised) is a great thriller/shooter for the GameCube. 5/5 stars.
P.S.-(...)

Cinematic Marvel (but a control nightmare)

Resident Evil has taken graphics and cinematic artwork to a whole new level. This game is visually stunning, and not only has great game play, but is intellectually challenging as well. Puzzles, traps, zombies, guns, knives... what more could you ask for? How about new controls.
Everything about this game is outstanding, with the exception of the complicated control set up, and often annoying fact that the point-of-view/camera angle cannot be adjusted.
Overall this game is well worth buying as long as you have the patience to get past the complicated and annoying movement controls.

having all the RE games, this was trully a new touch and an introduction to the RE world - espcially wit the zombies running.
things seem similiar to the RE 1 but there are many differences. it is a good game to play and not a waste of money - oh well, with my biased view, havin all RE games, LOL.
it was awesome to see the zombies runnin for the first time, cant wait for Biohazard 5. gota be gooooood. RE 4 was nice with the villagers and all that...

A gaming masterpiece!

Resident Evil is a masterpiece. It is a survival horror game with one of the bet stories I have ever heard of in a videogame. The graphics in this game are the best I have ever seen in any game. The story is about S.T.A.R.S squad of special tactics cops . The Bravo tem(the less experienced) set off into the woods in a chopper ad crashed landed although nobody died. The Alpha eam explored the site the next day and they saw the crahed chopper... Man this is extremely gorey game. It is not reccomended for yunger audiences. I hope I was of help...

Excellent graphics, but gets tedious

This is the first time that I played a Resident Evil game. I remember renting the PS1 version years ago, but I never got into the game. First of all the graphics are amazing. They do a great job of setting the mood of the game. My complaints start with the controls, they are horrendous. The character movement is very unnatural. Even though your are using a controller, your character moves as if you are using the directional keys on a keyboard. The control or lack of control, causes you to bump into things while trying to fight an enemy. The second complaint is that the inventory system can be frustrating. The inability to drop an item causes you to make many trips to one of the few item boxes scattered throughout the game. But, the biggest complaint I had is that I just felt that after a while the game and puzzles became very tedious. I am towards the end of the game and I really don't care at this point if I finish the game. I just want to want it to end so I can sell the game and move onto something else.

The evil returns

THE GOOD:
The graphics, us resident evil veterns will be thirilled to see the mad detail of the monsters and characters. New monsters and areas help explain the resident evil plot. New monsters: Lisa ( a freaky monster thats kind of like nemisis but dose'nt fallow you the whole game, Crimson heads (if you don't kill a zombie by burning it or destorying its head it'll be revived and will be strong and fast as a hunter, it will also have claws)Kamikazi zombies (zombies with explosives). New areas: grave yards, lisa's cabbin.Added modes of game play to make it harder : Real survivor mode, Ivisiable enemy mode. You can finaly team up with your partner to take down a boss (based on your actions you may have a little help in takeing down a boss). And lastly rebbeca looks way hotter.
THE BAD:
Not much really bad with the game but the lisa monster looks freaky but a little stupid. Jill dose'nt look as hot as she was from the original or resident evil 3 but that should'nt matter.

SUMMARY:
This is the way a remake should be done which I hope paves a rode to remake more games like the rest of the resident evil series or perhaps the final fantasy series.

A Classic, Mutated

Now this is how to do a remake.

When Capcom's original horror opus hit the PlayStation in 1996, gamers worldwide were stunned by its atmosphere and creepiness, as well as its interesting gameplay formula. It spawned lots of alternate versions, a "Director's Cut", and a few sequels, but none quite captured the inspired dread of the original.

Until the series moved to the deceptively capable Gamecube.

Capcom, masters of franchise-milking, outdid themselves with the new version of Resident Evil (often referred to as the "REmake"). It succeeds on two fronts: it retains almost all the elements that made the PSX original a classic, while adding just enough to keep RE vets on their toes. Item boxes, typewriters, and scattered ammo will still be found, but new rooms, enemies, and items (the defensive items can drastically change your tactics). Capcom could just have done a mere port, but they cared enough about their franchise to mutate the beloved mansion to a new and gloriously twisted shape of its former self.

The much-maligned static camera angles and initially awkward control scheme are still here, but that's what Resident Evil is - change it too much and it becomes something else. Besides, prerendered backgrounds have never been portrayed with such beautiful decay. It's like each camera frame is a painting by Francis Bacon - only populated with disturbingly animated, hideous life. Moonlight streams sickly through dingy windowpanes. A swinging chandelier bathes a room in a pattern of dusky light and shadow. A flickering fire casts a gleam over rotting grey undead flesh. A slowly crawling mist hugs the ground, sliding around dingy abandoned stonework. You will not find a more accurate, effective portrayal of decadent horror anywhere in gamedom. Somewhere, George Romero is grinning ear-to-ear.

Many people decry the REmake as "the same old game I played six years ago", but why alter such a brilliant formula? Tyrant and Plant 42 never looked this good. Producer Shinji Mikami has ominously quipped "It now looks too real." Capcom gets major kudos for taking the time and expense to create something special: a remake of a classic that not only caters to new fans, but also pays tribute to veterans.

Nothing feels like the original yet new Resident Evil, and nothing ever will - until Capcom redoes it again in 2008!

Back to the Original

This is obviously a remake of the Resident Evil on Sony's Playstation. It follows the same story as the original, but gives the player better graphics, more blood, and more zomies.

The story is about S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team heading into the forest in order to find the lost Bravo Team. When they find the helicopter, Kevin is left inside. Dead. So they continue their search around the area. When Joe Frost gets killed, they make their way into an old mansion where evil waits.

As with all Resident Evil games, the reason why the mansion had been overrun by zombies and monsters is told through a series files, and journals. Sometime survivors will give you information, but that's rare.

The aqua ring. I just loved that place. Unlike the water filled room in the original Resident Evil, the room is a cylinder, and the water is very deep. So deep that there is a huge shark swimming around in it. Big enough to swallow you whole. One of my favorite rooms in the game.

Since I never got through the original Resident Evil on the Playstation. I'm not sure if Lisa was in it, but this remake has a character named Lisa in it. Lisa was one of Umbrella's experiments, and I felt she was a great installment to the remake. The back story they gave her was interesting, and I wanted to learn the whole story.

Overall, fun, entertaining, scary, everything Resident Evil should be.

this game has almost everything: graphics, story, creepy atmosphere, and great puzzles. the only bad thing is the controls, but you'll get used to them. and i dont get the big deal about the camera angles, they're cool, gives you the feel of a movie. this is definatly the better verion of the two(the original and remake). i mean, jeez this has better graphics, more rooms, more ZOMBIES! oh yeah, this game really teaches you about conserving ammo. on easy and normal you'll proboly get about 60 extra bullets for handgun early in the game. but on hard, dont even attempt to shoot any zombies, there is almost no ammo anywhere. and when youre in a zombie filled mansion you dont want waste ammo. this game has some of the greatest graphics EVER! except when you bring 0 into the mix. But wait till RESIDENT EVIL 4 comes out! Hooray!!!! I'll break it down:

gapchics:5/5 jeez no competition
control: 4/5 gets annoying but after a while you get used to it
story:4/5 good story, hate umbrella.
camera 4/5 i dont know what the big deal is. these are awesome

overall: 4.5/5 one of the greatest games ever! definatly the greatest remake of all time

I can start by saying that this game was the reason I bought a Gamecube and then I can tell you why. I saw pictures of the game in Gamepro and I thought that is the most realistic looking game I have ever seen. Well I bought the Gamecube and put the game in. You have to see it to believe it but I felt like I was there it just is actually to realistic. The game puts you right into the horror and gives you a great fast paced cutscene right off. I thought the game had a glitch in it because my charecter didn't move. Well I moved by joystick on the controller and my charecter moved and I realized oh my god this is the game and not a cutscene. So I walked forward keeping my eyes pealed for any movement I heard a dog bark in the distance and a moan followed by a long howl. The sounds in this game are more realistic than any other game and will be till the next Resident Evil game. The lighting flashed which lit the whole room and followed by that also was a loud crack of thunder wich is truly amazing how they recorded that onto the game and set it up. Here is my review because I could go on and on.

Graphics 10/10 Perfect not a glitch or problem.
The game got awarded from every gaming site the most realistic game ever to be made. No other gaming console could make a game this realistic since the Gamecube supports 8 pixel colors instead of 4 like the other two consoles.

Sound 10/10 The sound is another place where this game got awards for. The lightning lighting effects mixed in with the thunder is what gave it another award. The sounds in the game are absolutely terrifying. You can here creatures making sounds in the background which give it a creepy feeling.

Controls 9.7 The controls aren't that bad but could have been better. I can't say really anything about them but that there fine for me and not that bad like you hear everywhere.

Gameplay 10/10 whatever you like Resident Evil has something there. If you beat the game once you get to unlock things. Beat it again on a harder difficulty and get a weapon. There is 2 or 3 to unlock which is cool. You wont want to play it again though because you don't want to relive the terror.

This game belongs on everyones shelf and has to be tried by everyone. Have fun not...
