Excellent game!

I got a Gamecube just so I could play this game and it was definately worth it. You might think that by playing the original version of this that you're prepared for this, but you're not. Their are added rooms, enhanced graphics and a slightly different storyline. One of the best features about this game is that you get to set dead zombies on fire, or else they come back to life and chase you. I only wish that Capcom would have enhanced Resident Evil 2 and 3 for Gamecube like this. If you're a big Resident Evil fan like me and you want to get the whole Resident Evil experience, I recommend that you get a Playstation 2 so you can play Resident Evil Director's Cut [PSX], Resident Evil 2 Dual Shock Version [PSX], Resident Evil 3: Nemesis [PSX], Resident Evil: Survivor [PSX], Resident Evil: Code Veronica X [PS2], Resident Evil: Dead Aim [PS2], and the upcoming Resident Evil: Outbreak [PS2]. You should also get a Gamecube so you can play Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil, and the upcoming Resident Evil 4.

Scarier than the original

Resident evil 1 remake..With GOOD graphics. And OTHER voice actors. So, of course I got it and was expecting nothing but a port to the Gamecube and I was planning to beat in 2-3 hours, since Im an old RE fan;)I was totally surprised, because they changed quite a lot of things, locations, added new objects/rooms/monsters.The zombies still can resurrect after you kill them and become awfully fast and agressive (if you dont burn the bodies after you shoot them). The creepy music, darkened rooms and an isolated loneliness feeling in a scary mansion. What else should horror fans wish? All I can say about this game- totally the best horror athmosphere from all RE games!I wonder if it will be my #1 RE now;)

My favorite in the series.

My first experience with a Resident Evil game was the second one on the Playstation, and ever since I touched that game, I was hooked. After finishing Resident Evil 2, I wanted to go back and see what started the series; Resident Evil 1, while outdated when I played it, still offered that great survial horror that the series is known for. Fast foward a couple years, Resident Evil is now exclusivly on the Gamecube, and in my opinion, this remake of a classic, is the best in the series. I was just happy to play one of my favorite games of all time in awesome graphics, but when I heard that 60% of the game was new, I was really excited.

Gameplay: 8/10

The only weakness I could ever find in a Resident Evil game was the stiff, tank-like controls; while they present a tough learning curve to really get used to them, it's not a bad control scheme once you have it down. I have absolutly no problems with the control to this day, but it will be a problem for newcomers when they first pick up the controller.

The game is a blast to play through, thanks to the great level design; finding keys to unlock new doors, conserving ammo, and health to survive, and fighting a variety of enemies is as fun as it has always been, and for me, never gets old. Don't worry about level variety, just as the Mansion starts to get old, you journey out of it, and explore a few other scary, and amazing locacations.

Graphics: 10/10

With 2D backgrounds, it allows you to use alot more of the systems power on the character design, which is still the best on any game I've ever seen. Also the 2D backgrounds look absolutly stunning, and in a game like this, it really adds to the atmosphere, making this game really scary at times. In my opinion, Resident Evil is one of the best looking games to date on any system, with few games beating it out.

Sound: 9/10

The sound is pretty good, and really adds to the tension when walking down a dark hallway, not knowing what's going to pop out at you. Without sound this good, the game wouldn't be nearly as fun; it's not the best of all time or anything, but it fits the mood almost perfectly.

Overall: 9/10 or 5 stars

It was my favorite in the series back on the Playstation, but the new Gamecube version is much, much better, and is a must buy for the fans of survival horror; or a great way to get into the Resident Evil series.

Resident Evil *best game ever#

This is the best game on the GameCube to date. I whould highly reccomend this game to all. The fun factor is great and the lighting is amazing. The best part of the game is playing at night alone in the dark with Dolby Digital 5.0 surround sound...
it is scary. In the end you all must BUY THIS GAME.

The pinnacle of the Resident Evil series...

There are two types of people in this world: people that love Resident Evil, and people who hate it. Being an older gamer and playing through every generation of games since Pong, the original Resident Evil on PSX represented a breakthrough in the videogame experience...even what a videogame was. It was the first game that truly approached the feeling of a playing a movie. Now we have an update that takes the location of the original and ups the ante with more of everything. Sure, the control is still limited, but it is all on purpose. If you can't get past the controls, well, sorry, but it is your loss. You just have to accept the type of game that this is, and what Capcom is trying to achieve. Some people will just be annoyed by it, but I digress. There is no series in gaming that can deliver the atmosphere that Capcom has created in RE. Play this game on a 13" TV and you might as well not even bother. Now, play it in the dark on a home theater setup with the sound cranked up. If you are not scared than you are probably mentally warped. Resident Evil on GameCube is the ultimate representation of survival horror, the house that Capcom built (don't even mention Alone in the Dark or you get smacked). Graphics and sound MAKE this series, and woah Nellie...this is just breathtaking. Resident Evil fans that don't have a GameCube yet: you have no excuse. This reinterpretation rules, and there are so many changes that the experience is fresh. With RE Zero on the way that is enough reason right there to pick up the Cube. To those that say Eternal Darkness is better: phooie. ED, while a good game, is not nearly as scary in my book.

This is good stuff !!!!!!!!!

I think anyone who enjoys a really good shooting + horror game should get it. It has got a really good graphic, it is totally realistic, and really fun. If you played such game like "MAX PAYNE" and others, you'll like it.

Genuis remake, nice move Capcom!!!

I know it's late to review this game but this has to be almost the best remake game ever made! The graphics, sounds, and even the story has been revamped and fitted with current and future games of RE yet to come. Not much to say about this game but truely recommended for any gamecube owners out there.

The only gripe i had about this game is the endings. Almost the same as the original release from RE1 for the Playstation which could have been tweaked and worked on but worked due to the fact that it's computer graphics, not mediocre actors! Controls are still perfect for me since RE started off with theatre stage position controls just like the other RE games (exception for survivor) working with the positioned cameras in the game.

Good game, must have!!!

Very good game, but storyline is sorta odd

Okay, I have only rented RE2 on N64 a few times, so that was all my RE experience. I rented this game, and like everyone says, the graphics are amazing. However of the bazilion diffrent RE games for all systems(except Xbox) there is always the same or similar plot. There is the main part (mansion, police station in RE2), then a middle part where you do a lot of walking, maybe a few houses or something, and then the labortory. 3 parts. Every game. Unless you have lots of previous RE experience, this game is a defenite RENT. The ammo is EXTREMELY rare, so you have to use strategy every time you fire. Zombies take 6-7 shots to down them once, but thats not the last of them. Unless you shoot their head off or burn them, they come back later, but only MUCH stronger and about 4x faster. Some grow claws and swipe your head off. There are new "defence weapons", like flash grenades for chris and a stun gun for jill, along with a dagger for both. The plot can be confusing at times, and ammo is often hidden. Some puzzles are incredibly easy, while others will make you think impossible. Great game, but some parts are quite nasty and some just... disturbing. The music kicks in when something is about to happen. Rating : 90/100

WAY better than the original.

I played this game for the first time in about 7'th grade, so it's been many years, but I only got through the second half of the game about a year ago. The graphics outshine all the other resident evil games and most other video games in general. I like how they made the beginning computer generated and un-cheesy like in the original which had live actors. Now let's just wait until they remake resident evil 2 & 3 like they did this one and resident evil zero. I'm sure 2 and 3 will be remade soon.
