The Scariest Game ever Made!!!!

I like the RE games and this is one of my favorites. If you think you don't need you old PSone version, think again! this game is like playing a new sequal to the RE games. I actually think that this is the scariest game ever made for so many reasons. You never know what to expect! because this game is so realistic, Hunters can literally jump from the 2nd story of the East hallway (where one of the stair cases are at) and attack you from the 1st story. If you see a Zombie laying on the floor doesn't mean it's dead (unless you decapitate it or burn it!) because 5-10 minutes later it will get up again and they can run (you heard me!) and slash you or attack you by eating. They can once in a while enter rooms when you least expect it. Zombies can be in the bathroom and when other ones are breaking in, you can see the door slam and a zombie from the bathroom (if you didn't burn it or decapitate it) will run after you. This is a very well designed game and I would highly recommend you to get it. Even if you don't like the Gamecube, it's a great game to make you get one.

This game puts XBOX to shame!

This game looks to be so much more than just a remake of the excellent Res Evil game. New stuff, different baddies, new modes, the best graphics I've ever seen! And since RE is now a GameCube exclusive Capcom are really gonna be able to push the boat out and push the technology of the GCN too!

Not just your typical remake...

Resident Evil...Words cannot describe(deep breath)the zombie blastin, crow killin',master of unlockin', Jill Sandwichin', dog bustin', and the scary atomsphorin'(gasp). Alright, let's face it. The first one is the best in the series and is the definitly the most frighting one. Some of you PS fanboys are still cursing Capcom for signing the rights to Nintendo by making Resident Evil exclusive to the 'Cube. But a tiny beacon of hope shines for PS2 because Resident Evil Online and Resindent Evil Survior 2 Code Veronica:X. The reason for Capcom's new deal was because of the Resident Evil 2 sales for N64 fared much better than the PS1 sales. The entire series is being ported to the Cube but only better graphics(NO!). EGM says,"Worth buying a Gamecube for. Worth playing again." You'll find this quote on the cover of last month's issue. The Gamecube is not just for your baby brother's system anymore...Two new game modes, two new endings, different costumes, and a different defense system. This will be one of the jewels on the Gamecube 2002 lineup...

One [heck] of a game!

This game is the coolest game for Gamecube yet. I'm only 13 years old(guy), so don't belive me if you don't want to. The game is full of suprises around every corner. The Graphics are incredible. The gameplay is much more advanced than the other games. And it is super scary! I had to sleep with the lights on the first couple of nights I played it. It got to the point where I wouldnt walk down the hall at night in fear of the Mutating Zombies(extremely powerful ones)jumping right at me. But the game was great. A little tip. BUY A PLAYERS GUIDE! The game may be fun, but it is also hard. And one of the treats of the game is that it features the beautiful Jill Valentine. 5 stars for resident evil. ... ROCK ON!

Better graphics than the movie!

They say that graphics do not make a game, and it's true...but Resident Evil for GameCube proves that great graphics CAN add quite a bit to the overall enjoyment of the game! This is the scariest game ever created. The graphics are some of the best ever and the sounds are bone-chilling. I've heard some people complain that there isn't much music in the game. I think that the lack of music is fitting and really contributes to the scariness of the game. I mean, in real life, you wouldn't hear music playing as you walk down a dark hallway. As in the game, you'd hear nothing but your footsteps and the distant groaning of the undead. Incidentally, the music very well suits the areas that do have it.
Above all else, however, you will be stunned the most by the graphics, whether it be the realism of a shadow cast on the wall or the sexy curves on Jill Valentine's body (the graphics are so good that in certain instances, you can actually see her breasts jiggle when she moves...I don't know if this was intentional or just an animation goof, but it sure works for me!). The only problem with the graphics is that people's mouths don't exactly move correctly with the words they're saying. Hell, that won't kill the game, though!
Resident Evil is a remotely easy game. The fighting isn't incredibly difficult (once you've got the controls mastered, anyway...but that's not too hard to do) and the puzzles are pretty easy, but a lot of fun. It should take you at least 10 hours of playing time to complete the first time through. The replay value is excellent (I've played through it about 15 times). Finishing the game on more difficult levels and with faster times will unlock secrets, such as extra costumes for Jill & Chris, special weapons, and the more difficult modes "Invisible Enemy" & "Real Survival."
Get this game!!!

My first game for the PlayStation was Resident Evil 2. Eventually, I got RE: Director's Cut, RE 3: Nemesis, and RE Code:Veronica X. Resident Evil is one of the greatest series made. When I heard about the remake for GameCube, I went out and bought one. Now that the game is out, I can't stop playing. The graphics and sound are amazing. It's just like watching a moive. And with the new rooms, weapons, and monsters, it feels like a brand new game. If you buy one game, this should be it.

What nintendo fans have been waiting for.

Gamecube fans rejoice! Many of us bought a Gamecube knowing that games like Resident Evil were coming out and trust me, it was worth the wait. I have played Resident Evil games on other systems many times, and was never scared like this. If you were worried that it would be just like the original, think again. You will open doors where you think something is, and an entirely new room is waiting! New puzzles, hallways, and cutscenes add to the game's value. Plus an added storyline involving the mansion designer's family...well, you will just have to wait and see. It does not just become a game of walking around finding items, because these zombies don't stay down for long! From flash grenades and tazer guns, to walls that close in and ceilings that drop down, this game is all about survival. Try to remain calm when a zombie you thought was dead breaks down a door to come after you. And the graphics set the mood perfectly. The shadows and lightning flashes, splashing water and way too realistic zombies all make you want to hide under the covers. This is by far the best looking game I have seen on the gamecube, and I would have bought it even if I owned the other version. Because when you are standing in a dark hallway, frozen because that shadow through the window is distinctly the shape of a man, and you have only two bullets left and forgot to bring that herb with you; the chill going up your spine makes the game all worthwhile.

Hurray for Zombies!

Resident Evil is awesome. It is one of the coolest games ever, one of my new all-time favorites, and for quite awhile to come will be the reason to own a Gamecube. Resident Evil is a lot of fun. And it has zombies.

I guess I've got to mention the graphics first. They are, in my humble opinion, the absolute best graphics in a console game to date. It's the only game to even attempt to have people actually take steps and walk on the actual stairs. The characters, the monsters, the walls, everything is great. The lighting and shadow effects are excellent, creating some fun situations in which you can't see a monster, but you can see a massive zombie silhouette on the wall. The graphics really help to set the creepy mood and atmosphere of the game. The music also adds much to the atmosphere, and is very well done. The sound is very good, and the eerie moans of distant zombies is a constant reminder of where you are.

The story is solid, and very cool. Most of the plot is just atmosphere, but that's fine. The basic premise is that the STARs, a special police force, is sent in to investigate some gruesome murders around Raccoon city. They are forced into a mansion by a pack of ravenous zombie dogs. The mysterious mansion is full of zombies. You can be either Chris or Jill, who have separate plots, but they are fairly similar simply because they are both in the same mansion. Jill's is also easier. Zombies are cool enough, but there are also several other very cool types of monsters, especially at the end. The boss monsters are no exception.

The controls aren't nearly as terrible as everyone says, even if they aren't good. As a Resident Evil veteran, I've become very used to them, and you will to, if you play for awhile. Auto-aim and 180 degree turns compensate quite a bit for the clunky controls. It also helps to use the D-pad, rather than the analog stick.

Resident Evil isn't exactly easy, but it also isn't as difficult as many say. For one part, the puzzles in the game are very simple, and easy to solve. For another, the actual gameplay itself isn't too hard once you get used to the controls. The main difficulty is that if you aren't careful, it is easy to run out of healing items and ammunition, especially at the beginning. By the end, I had plenty of bullets. You could play through on easy, but then there are hardly any zombies at all, and then the game becomes kind of boring, as well as being less scary. And it is all about the scariness and the atmosphere, after all.

If you played the original Resident Evil, like I have, it is definitely worth playing through the remake. It is a much better game. I'm not going to throw out numbers like "70% new content", but it is much different. The main layout is still the same, with parts added on, but many room's contents and design are completely changed, and most of the puzzles are different, to some degree. With both playable characters, and several unlockable features (like invisible zombies, hard mode, and infinite magnum) Resident Evil does have a lot of replay value anyway.

Resident Evil takes about 8-9 hours of in-game time to beat the first time through, with either character. Everything considered, if you haven't enjoyed other survival horror games, you probably won't like this, although the graphics will still impress most anyone. If you've liked other survival horror games, specifically the Resident Evil series, they you should definitely pick this up, as it is the best straight survival horror game yet. If you haven't played the genre, Resident Evil is a great one to try. If it sounds cool, try it out. You'll probably like it.

Chilling, atmospheric and utterly terrifying!

Though the game has been around for years I've never taken interest in Resident Evil until recently. I got the game for dirt cheap and was surprised how good it is. I saw my cousin play the old Playstation version years ago and was unimpressed but for the Gamecube the graphics have been re-rendered to absolute lifelike perfection. The shadows, the sound, the ambience and those thunderclaps...all highly, highly realistic. Play this with your Gamecube hooked up to your home theatre. And like me, you'll totally jump out of your skin at the scary parts (many of them).

My main hint is conserve your ammo. If you see a zombie, put it down right away (no funny stuff) and burn it. Take care of them one at a time. And if you don't burn them they will soon come back as Crimson Heads-faster, deadlier, scarier.

Much like the Myst series, Resident Evil is one of those games where you have to keep your eyes and ears open. Clues and puzzle pieces are scattered all over the place and you need to pay attention.

Don't be put off by the size of the mansion. After a short while it's easy to get your bearing and find your way through rather easily. Though I will be honest with the fact I did not understand most of the story. I have no idea what Trevor's diary from 1968 had to do with the plot and I really didn't get why Umbrella would create the T-Virus. I know there are various ways to finish and complete the game though. Especially seeing as how there are many clips during the end credits that did not happen in my gameplay (I did it in just over 8 hours). If you finish it in certain timeframes the next one is always different somehow. I only managed to unlock a new outfit for Chris. Wow!

My only gripe is about those boring `door opening' cut scenes. They really got on my nerves. Still, it's a chilling game that will freak you out if you play alone in the dark. Well worth the time and money.

What's that sound?

1996, Playstation is a milestone in video gaming. Top-noch graphics with a HUGE library of video games. "Resident Evil" came breaking through the barriers of video gaming. All that was wrong with video games was in "Resident Evil." Then, the franchise grew. And so did the number of video game systems. 2002, "Resident Evil" came back, full force. With graphics to make Stevie Wonder do a double take, you realize you ARE part of the game. Perhaps it is'nt you that owns the game... maybe the game owns you. I dunno, but it's very interesting. The Bravo team of S.T.A.R.S. has a chopper down in a remote mountain region outside of Raccoon City, where "strange happenings" have been taking place over a time of about two weeks, I believe. Well, they send in the Alpha team, which consists of Jill Valentine (My very favorite), Chris Redfield, Barry, Wesker, Brad "Chickenheart" Vickers, and some guy that gets killed in the beginning. Well, zombie dogs attack and Brad (the pilot) flies off in fear, leaving you and your teamates to fend for yourselves. Well, to make a long story short, Hell ensues. Let me break down the schematics for ya!

Graphics- 10/5. Holy ish! Could that corpse not look anymore real? All I have to say is that it feels as if you are playing a movie, or controling real life. If only other video games could mirror this. It has perfect graphics. They are beautiful, haunting, and, as I've said, very real. The lighting is spooky.

Sound- 10/5, again. From hearing leaves crunch in the distance to hearing the soft moan of a zombie at the end of the hall, the sound is crisp, very clear, and freaky.

Controls- 4/5. Not above average like the graphics/sound, it gets very annoying trying to remember what button runs, what button triggers the inventory, what button changes targets. It's nostalgic, to say the least. But. they do say half the fun is in getting there!

Horror- 10/5. It is the scarriest game to have ever graced any system. It's a test to try to play this game with the lights off. Capcom truely knew what they were doing when they decided to remake a game that was, at best, laughable back in the day. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Overall- 100/5. This is a must own for "Resident Evil" fan to "Gamecube owner whose never heard of the series before" alike. It's enough to make Helen Keller smile. BUY IT IF CONTEMPLATING, PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK IF YOU BOUGHT IT!
