I really like this game. I think it has the most difference from the original. It looks great, with the environments matching those in Silent Hill. But since there isn't blood everywhere, you can see a little better. The camera angles are annoying sometimes, and it's especially confusing in the beginning. It's tough to control, because you turn as slowly as the zombies and you can't really control the gun. It would be nice if you could blow off zombie heads by pointing the gun up just a little, but you can't. There are weapons that shoot off their heads anyway, like the Magnum. And if you use the shotgun right, you can use that to do it, too. There are no good melee weapons, and you'd get killed trying to kill much with the knife. The voice acting was alright, and I had sympathy for some of the characters. There is some replay value because there are different difficulties, such as invisible enemy and real survivor. You get rewards for defeating the game in a certain amount of time or on a certain level. So overall, the game was fun and is worth the money.
Long lasting impression

What can I say about this game that has not been said a hundred or thousand of times already - about the awkward control, the lack of ammunition, the lack of item slots, the constant back-tracking, and other not so positive, various elements that have become a logo of the Resident Evil series. Despite its shortcoming, which are easily overcome once you are accustomed to it, for me it is without a doubt the most memorable game in the series and probably in the horror genre. It is my first introduction into the Resident Evil series but also into the survival horror genre itself. The pure terror it has instilled in me when I first played the game is something I no longer experience from other well known horror games such as Silent Hill series - which in themselves are very enjoyable games. The superb prerendered graphics, the real-time lighting effect, the attention to detail make everything looks so realistic and lively, it will immmerse you into the game, as if you are truely facing pure terror. Resident Evil (the remake) makes a long lasting and nostalgic impressions on me that I doubt it will ever be displaced by any other horror games. It may do the same to all those who allows it to occupy their time. If you are even vaguely into these kind of games, it is a must buy.
The best horror game ever

Resident Evil for GCN is a masterpiece of work. The AI of the zombie's and critters is much enhanced than the original one, and is more advanced than most AIs on games right now. The sound, although with no Dolby, is still wonderful. And the thing that makes this game the scariest game out to date is the graphics. It looks REAL. You hear and see the zombies coming down the hallway, you get a twang of fear that says, "Oh no, it's gonna eat her. I can't believe I'm watching this video-VIDEO?" Every flicker of the candle to the zombies limping towards you makes this game the most realistic. Overall,
If you are scared of blood, gore, etc, this is not the game for you. But do I feel bad for you. YOU ARE MISSING OUT on the best game out.

Resident Evil is a very good game. It takes all the qualities of a 5 star game and makes it look like nothing. This is the best game out for gamecube at this time. What i hate is when people rate this game 1 star just because they are not very good at that game. Just don't listen to people like that, this game is challenging and very CREEPY!. The only thing that is a lillte weak about the game is that easy= very easy, and hard= very hard.
Prodigiously Freaky and Frighteningly Fun!

This has to be one of the best games I have played thus far. The graphics are simply the best I've ever seen and when you're playing this game at midnight with the lights off... BEWARE! It WILL freak you out!
Resident Evil is an excellent representation of the Gamecube's capabilities. The gameplay graphics are unbelievably realistic. Some of my family memebers have walked in the room while I was playing it and have asked, "So, what movie is this?" They were very suprised after realizing it was a video game.
So what are the attributes that make this game AWESOME, you ask? Resident Evil is immensely horrifying, tremendously action packed, and has a well-developed puzzle system (the puzzles aren't as complex as those you would encounter in a Zelda game, however, they are still thought-provoking). This game deserves six stars! It is simply a MASTERPIECE. Buy it, play it, love it!
...And after you've boughten it, and played it twenty or so times, and have loved it to death, be sure to check out Resident Evil: Code Veronica X (if you haven't already done so) ;)

If you haven't tried one of the games in the resident evil series I recoment that you rent first, these are a adventure horror game and not for everyone. That aside if you want a resident evil game and this is a first this is where to start. If you have played every game in the series this is a great one for the collection. I owned the original on playstation and this is an amazing remake. The only downside is they have kept some of the old things such as not being able to drop an idem and needing to use the box system. These are minor annoyances and don't seem so bothersom unless you've played some of the later games. In any case I received this game two days ago and I love it, the game is fun and the graphics are amazing. Give it a go

About the game:
This game takes place after STARS (special team and rescue service), is sent out to search for their friends that were investigating bizarre murder cases in the Arklay Mountains (near Raccoon City). Unfortunantly, Bravo Teams Helicoptor crashes and the team is in grave danger. Alpha team, containing of (Albert Wesker) (Jill Valentine) (Chris Redfield) (Rebecca Chambers) and (Barry Burton) is sent out to search for their friends and help the investigation. But before they know it some bizarre wild dogs terroize them and Alpha team is forced to retreat to a mansion. And before they know it, a nightmare is about to begin..... Muhahaha! (If you would like to know more please continue reading but it may spoil a little of the game, but go down to the pros and cons section of my review)...
After arriving in the mansion, you will either play as Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, which ever one you choose. The first stop you make is into the Dining room, where you find that blood stains lie all over the place by a fire place. After noticing it you go into a room that contains a zombie eating your good ol' pal, Kenneth, and so begings the nightmare! I can't tell you no more cause I don't wanna spoil the game!
Pros:
Graphics: are very sophisticated and well done
Gameplay: is Glitch Free, there are no problems with the frame rate.
Difficulties: There are 2 difficulties at the beginning, Normal and Easy. After beating the game on either difficulty you can play on hard.
Cons:
Puzzles: The Puzzles are SO HARD! These puzzles require an actual brain, you must use your brain to finally understand each of these puzzles. *Puzzle Difficulty varies depending on the puzzle*
Long Gameplay: This game will take you EXTREMELY long to beat if you are a first time player. Don't expect to beat the game in under 9 hours if you have never played. This game is long due to the massive amount of scenery (places you goto agian and agian, and going to new places)
Interesting Things:
Extras: Beating the game on easy opens up a new costume for Jill, and a new beginning screen w/ Once Agian mode. Beating the game on normal opens a costume w/ Once Agian mode and "Survival Mode". Beating the game on "Once Agian" mode on any difficulty in under 3 hours will open a rocket launcher with Unlimited Ammo and a Samaurai Edge Pistol with Unlimited Ammo. Beating the game in under 6 hours opens up just the Samurai Edge with Unlimited Ammo.
Final point:
I highly reccomend this game for any Resident Evil fan or Wanna be a Resident Evil fan. This game is excellent and will suit almost anybody that likes Resident Evil...

The Resident Evil series was one of the main reasons why I purchased a Gamecube. The totally new look of the first RE looks amazing. When I first put it in I was dazzled by the new difficulty screen. Graphix are incredible and gameplay is even better. Even better is the newer lighting makes the environment more spooky and playing makes you feel like your there. Zomie AI is also enhanced to create a more difficult but better gameplay. More choices can be made to effect the outcome of the game so replay value is at a definate. I give this 5 stars.
