I bought this game not knowing what it would be like since I haven't played any of them on Playstation. When I first started a new file, I was astounded with the graphics of the intro movie. As I played thorugh the game, the challenges got harder to figure out and the graphics got even better. Blowing up zombies and trying to understand why there are freakish looking monster guys everywhere just added to the fun. The best way to kill a zombie using Chris is to take a grenade and shove it in the zombie's mouth. This game has many endings depending on what you do so you would have to play it many times over. Also, this game is the only game I've ever played that was able to make me scared at times. Mosters pop out of places like when I was walking through a pleasently lit hallway and all of a sudden a zombie dog burst through the window with a bang. Overall, I think this game is perfect with the exception of one minor fact. The control of the character can only move in the direction he is facing and can't move backwards unless turned. I found this a problem when there was a fast moving zombie on my tail and I couldn't turn around. Because of this fact, I'll have to give this game 4 stars because it's not perfect and it could have been done a bit better.

THIS IS THE BEST GAME ON THE CUBE but...

But lets forget graphics for a moment and look at something more important... the gameplay. First off, this is pretty much just another RE game. Same controls, same gameplay... you get the point. Now thats not a BAD thing, it's just feels very familiar.

Anyhow, despite the huge graphical upgrade, this version of Resident Evil isn't much different from the original one. The environments are changed a litte, and some things have been moved around, but that's mostly it.

The sound is quite good, obviously consisting of groans, moans, some more cheesy voice acting and some spooky music.

Speaking of spooky music, Resident Evil games haven't been scary for a while now (at least for me they haven't). However, this version of RE definently brings back some spooky gameplay. It wasn't scary for me, but compared to most of the other RE's... it definently delivers.

And finally, the graphics. Yes, they are amazing. Yes, they are spectacular. Yes, they are extremely impressive. And yes, this is probably the best looking game ever created. Those zombies sure look good this time around...

The animations have been greatly improved as well. Everything is much smoother and more realistic looking. The characters move VERY realistically and the zombies, well, act like zombies.

Overall, I definently liked the game, yet I expected much more out of it. Sure, it's just a remake but I wish Capcom did more then just give it a huge graphical overhall.

If you haven't played the Resident Evil before, than trust me, get this one over the Playstation version. However, if you have played the original RE, I suggest that you rent this one first.

Not Just A Redo

Ok, I know what you're thinking, it's the same old thing again. Not worth buying I already beat the original. Not quite, I never played the original, but I know a lot of people who did, they have all said that this game is bigger, tougher, and all around better. The first thing that people notice is the graphics. This is more than just a pretty next-generation game. It has a well done story, pretty much the same as before, with some minor tweaks.

Now, the graphics, they speak for the themselves, the best out there now, however Resident Evil 0 is supposed to be even better (if that's possible).

The controls, this is where the game falters the most, the controls take a very long time to get used to. It took me a few hours to learn them, but once I got them, they were flawless. However I took a long break from it to play Eternal Darkness when it came out and I recently came back and was back to nearly square one.

The game itself, A changed mansion, bigger then ever. New rooms added, old ones removed, if that doesn't convince you that it all new I don't know what will. Also, a great story will keep you hooked, and not wanting to take that break. Also, be prepared this game will scare you. I know what you're thinking, I won't be scared, I thought the same thing, I had played RE2, RE3, etc... but once I got into the game, I found myself shaking from the fear of dying and not know what's around the next corner. It's hard too, I've only beaten it on the Easy setting with Jill (The easier way through).

This is a must have game for Gamecube. Nintendo has grown up folks, the system now has two scare you silly games, with plenty more on the way, due to an exclusive deal with Capcom to send all Resident Evil games to the little Nintendo cube. Check this game out, it's well worth the money.

What a great remake should be

Before we begin I would just like to state that I am a long time resident evil fan. I am about as big a fan as they come I own every resident evil tittle since 1996 and my love for the series is ever so strong today and there is a reason for that. that reason being the games have maintained what makes them great! An epic story, slick smooth graphics (for the most part) and larger then life characters. Resident evil will always have a place in my heart.

GRAPHICS.

Lets start with the Graphics. (because they stand out so much)
When I first popped this game into my gamecube I about had a heart attack! This is one of the most amazing games I have ever seen graphically, in my opinion this game easily stands up to doom 3and half-life 2 in quality and realism, whether its the spectacular lighting or the ultra realistic water, playing this game could not feel anymore realistic unless you had a 9 mm handgun in your hands as a controller.
I gave this feature 5/5 stars

GAMEPLAY.
Now this is a bit tricky to address. Like I have said before I have been playing resident evil since day one and I have come to enjoy the way RE plays I would not have it any other way. But there will always be those who disagree and say that the controls are clunky and robotic, but if you are a long time fan then you will be just fine. If not you will get used to the controls in no time.
I gave this feature 4/5 stars

SOUND.
The sound effects and music from the resident evil universe has always been some kind of wonderful and there is no exception for the RE remake. The sounds are creepy and the music is spooky and moody as always. The only thing that hurts this is the voice acting and dialogue, though it is not as bad as it can be it still lacks total realism.
That is why I gave this a 4/5 stars

OVERALL.
This is a great game! resident evil fan or no this is a must own game. with 6 different endings, unlockable costumes and modes this remake is years ahead of the original...literally =D (BUY IT)
this game is a well deserved 4.85/5

SCARY but a little difficult

Resident Evil not only possesses a great story line but the graphics are amazing. The game is not really reliving the past the story line is much more exciting and the mansion still holds many surprises. This game is difficult but after a while the player does get used to the gameplay and is even able to develope strategies. A guide may be needed and prima is the best but brady also has it's strong points.

Be Afraid. Be very afraid.

Being a person who never really played the first Resident Evil, I found the original comming to Gamecube a welcome relief to the other offerings out there. But my story aside, let me just say that I was a person who was waiting for this to come out not only because it looked beautiful but because it was a chance for me to actually play the original. However, there are so many changes to the game, that many state that it doesn't even feel like the original.
The best aspect of the game is the graphics. You know that, you've seen the screen shots, I need to say no more. But something that fits right up next to that quality is the atmosphere. Some games are totally devoid of any atmosphere while some pack it in. This one, I would honestly say, has the best I've ever experienced. The animated backgrounds with dark atmosphere just makes your skin crawl. There are times when you will feel just utterly horrified to even continue the game because it scares you. But then again, I play ALONE with the lights OFF! If you do that, prepare to be terrified.
Everything about this game is so fine tuned that it is hard to find fault. But the quote "Fault is thick where love is thin" fits perfectly into this complaint. The controls are just absolutly mindboggling. I just never understood why Capcom took so much time to totally revamp the game from ground up yet still maintain the control style! Personally, the best control scheme to use is the Type-C style. Why? Because instead of the tedious turning offered with the first two schemes, the third one actually comes the closest to Third-Person point of view scheme, thus easier to control. But this is actually a minor complaint. It's just something that takes a little extra to get used to. Other than that, it has truly earned it's place among the greatest games ever created. (Or recreated for that matter).

Rock on, Capcom

This game is amazing. I have never seen such vivid visual effects in my life. The atmosphere has been created perfectly, and provides what is by far the most freaky game I've ever seen. The pre-rendered backgrounds are combined PERFECTLY with polygons, to create a totally realistic environment.

The game is HUGE. I've been playing for a while now, and at one point, when getting ready to solve a pretty large puzzle, I had thought I was near beating the game. However, I then realized that I hadn't even touched the second disc yet...Indeed, hours after that point, I STILL haven't gotten into the second disc. And this is on the EASY setting! I can still boost the difficulty, and change characters, and get a new game play experience...The ammount of fun this game is providing has already exceeded the $50 I paid for it, and I'm sure it's only going to get better.

During the whole game so far, the monsters are very creepy, and when the windows start breaking and the zombies start crawling into the house, your heart really starts pumping. It seems as though just when you get used to the zombies, the game starts throwing bigger, even more frightening critters at you..And it just keeps getting worse and worse...And the REALLY bad thing is that, after you pick up on this progression, you start to get freaked out every time you open a door. No room is really safe, because even after you kill the critters once, there's always the chance that the next time you go throught that room, some new evil creature is going to burst through a door, or window, or something, and eat your brains.

The controls are somewhat tough at first, but here's a tip. USE CONTROL SCHEME C. It is BY FAR the best one availible, and it makes moving around so much easier. It puts the walk and run onto the right analog button, separating the "throttle" of the character from the direction. This makes it much easier to turn while running, and keeps you from getting stuck while zombies come up and eat ya. They put in a really nice feature, where you can tap the yellow analog stick in any direction, and it makes your character turn around 180 degrees. This really helps when you need to get out of somewhere really fast.

So that's it folks..Go buy this game. It's the most amazing game I've ever played.

This game is simply amzing

I've never played a game this good in my life - scary as hell and amazingly graphic. The sound effects are great an the visuals are the best gamecube's ever seen. By far the best gamecube game out. Really brings you into the game and makes it seem as though your fighting for your own life. Play it in the dark and you'll be looking over your shoulder every time you hear a noise for the rest of the day- person favorite of all time

Scary as Hell

I bought this game the day it came out and it is so jumpy, freaky, and on the edge of your seat suspense, that you will scream at every corner. The best thing about this game is that it has new graphics, you can go outside the mansion and get clues now, also you get a whole new suspense arena. for people who are new at this and want a freakin cool game get Resident Evil for Gamecube. I highly recomend it
