I have played all the Resident Evil games except for the origonal Resident Evil for Playstation. That is partially why I turned in my beloved Dreamcast for a gamecube, to play this game. I had high expectations, of this there is no doubt. But I have been amply rewarded so far for my move in a new direction.
Some of the reviews I read complained about the strange or "[junky]" controls. I am not sure I understand this. Resident Evil offers a pre-set control that will be comfortable to any returning player. It also offers another default setting that may be more comfortable to newer players. And if I am not mistaken (I loved setting A so I didn't look into this too close), option C lets you set the controls however you like.
Another complaint I read about was getting lost in the game or quickly running out of ammunition. This is a totally common experience to all Resident Evil players. It is part of the game style itself. The test is whether you drop the controller and run like a [WIMP] or you pick it back up and get BACK IN THE GAME! Honestly, it is survival horror, not Duke Nukem! What do you expect, a Gatling gun and red pointing arrows?
On the plus side, YES! Resident Evil now has graphics on par with even the best of computer games. You can prepare to be amazed. It also has almost perfect physics, meaning the pistol acts like a pistol and your charactor moves like they are real (trust me on this). Heavy weapons have a very satisfying (i.e. zombie mutilating) effect as well. At first I was worried that the low weapon count would draw the game down in comparison to RE 2. But I was wrong. Each gun is fun and there is more than enough variety to please even a NRA President.
New players beware! This Resident Evil is huge! It is much larger than any of the other Resident Evil games I have played yet. Not just in size but in complexity. Even on easy, I was struggling to slove the puzzles in the game. You will spend a lot of time exploring and backtracking. If this is not your bag, do like me and buy a strategy guide. I tried not to use it at first but...I am weak. Know if you are too when purchasing.
As a final note and one thing I think is important, many players confess being scared by the Resident Evil games. I was never one. Even Code Veronica, with its great graphics and ominous tone did not scare me. Imagine my suprise when I realized I wasn't turning on the Gamecube after dark. Resident Evil Gamecube is actually scary to me, a vetran of the series. If you get the creeps and like it, then meet your new best friend....

Resident Evil is a great game with great grapics and everything. The only problem with the game is the controlling, and its why i gave the game a 4 instead of a 5. The controlling is still hard to manuever. Yet the gameplay is great and everything else is too. If you are a hard core gamer then definitly buy it, trust me it'll be worth it. If you like to solve puzzles, shoot zombies, and all that kind of stuff, then i think this would be a game for you.
nintendo does it again

Wow! That's about all I can say about this game. I have never played a RE game because it has never been offered on a nintendo system. If you have not guessed, I favor nintendo as my primary means of gameing. I have only owned this game for about a day and I am convinced that the impression that this game will leave will be one that other game systems will be desperately trying to catch up to. The opening sequence is clean and very smoothe, and even afer the opening sequence is finised, the graphic quality remains virtaully the same. Controlling the character is a little strange at first, but any die hard gamer will pick it up in no time at all. If the control seems a bit strange, it is only because change is inevitable, and the standard is being set once again by none other than nintendo.
Incredible!

Resident Evil for GCN is amazing! The graphics are very realistic. The atmosphere created is very scary. The sound is great. Only problem is the somewhat awkward controls, however, after a little bit of play time, they become second nature. I highly recommend this game.
Do you like the lights on or off?

This game is incredible. I'm a PS2 owner who just bought a Game Cube, and I'm amazed at the graphics this little thing pumps out of Resident Evil. With the great sound effects, backgrounds, lighting, and super-realistic characters it actually feels like your exploring the mansion out side of Racoon City. The character's movements and jestures are the most fluid and life-like I've ever seen on a game console. I can't wait for the other games in this series to come out! One of the best reasons to buy a Game Cube.

It is absolutely not for the fainted heart. Frankly this is one of the best RE game ever released. All RE games are different and this remake for sure will keep Fans alive and well.....
There are not many Boss fights here but the journey is already so chilling let alone fighting the bosses....Totally wonderful game and a must for survivor horror fans.... This will send chills down your spine....

i just picked this game up a few weeks ago and WOW, this game is awsome. the graphics are the best ive ever seen for a video game period, and it came out a few years ago. you can choose between playing as chris or jill. jill is a bit easier because she can pick locks and hold more items. some people say the controls are hard, so when i started playing, i looked at the different schemes and thought C was the best and it works great for me. after 10+ hours of playing this game, i finally beat it. bottom line is that this game is so good, that after beating it with one character, you owe the game to play it with the other. and with the price being so low, you have no excuse for skipping over this game
THIS IS A REALLY GREAT GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To start with, before this new version of Resident Evil from Gamecube. I had played the original Resident Evil from PSX. So I was able to companision of both games. Let me tell you, the Gamecube is different from the original in many way. It is a really great game, well worth the money to spent. Number one, they really beef up the graphis in this game. Compare with the original, this graphis are just awesome. In the mansion, lighting in the background. There were detail pictures on the wall. There was glass on floors, candlelight look realistic. When your walk over a puddle you can see your relationship. In short, the graphis are awesome. If this was enought, they add new areas to the game that were non-existant in the original. New parts of the mansion, additions to the residence area. A cemetery and a road that a cabin, which were not there. The underground, has a new area to it that was there before. Overall, they add new areas to this game. They add new weapons, called Defense Items. These are very useful in fighting off zombies who manged to get close enough to bite. What does a Defense Item Do? It tiggers when a zombie start to bite you, depending on whetever the item in auto or manual, if in auto it do this automatically, but in manual you need to push a button, you can pull out a weapon and attack the zombie. This will cause him to let go, giving you enough time to either run or kill his butt. I can keep going like this all day, but you get the idea, Resident Evil for Gamecube is a remake of the original game. So if you whatever you a new gamer who want to begin to expenience the world of Resident Evil or a veteran of Resident Evil games. I highly remmend buying this game. It worth the money you pay for it.

For those of you who don't know, "Resident Evil" was a super popular survival/horror game that originally appeared on the PlayStation. It has since spawned several sequals, although after the third they started to really kinda suck.
Well, the other year Capcom re-released the original "Resident Evil", with updated graphics and extended gameplay, for the GameCube. I bought it yesterday and played it for about eight hours, as Jill. It's a far cry from the original, that's for sure.
Things that have changed:
Voice acting has improved drastically. When you first enter the mansion you don't see anybody making strange, exaggerated arm gestures and rattle off absurd lines (like when Barry gives Jill the lockpick and says that she, "a master of unlocking", could use it better).
Graphics are much, much better--candle flames look damned good, for one, and the human characters move their mouths and blink and their eyes glint, that sort of thing. Zombies don't look quite so ridiculous.
Gameplay has been extended enourmously, and the layout of the mansion is quite different. Based on seemingly trivial things that you do, the story can take more twists and turns than it did before and often it isn't until much later that you find out that you've screwed up beyond all hope.
You can now defend yourself if attacked--Jill can carry a tazer and a few daggers. That way, you can actually do something if a zombie grabs you instead of just try to wrestle free.
Things that haven't changed:
The controls are still clunky and for the first hour it's a struggle just to get around a corner, but it's not impossible to adjust. "Up" on the joystick is always forward, and once I forced myself to always remember that I started navigating pretty easily. There are three different control settings that you can try, but they don't help too much and control setting "B," I thought, was even worse.
Camera angles are a little better, but they're still bad; you can still find yourself facing a zombie only two feet away from you, but you can't see to attack because the camera's staring your character dead in the face.
Overall, a refreshing take on the original game, with enough new features and changes to the story that veterans of the series will still find new things to do, but it would've been nice if they had fixed the controls and the camera angles.
