What can I say?

Since there are already more than a hundred customer reviews posted for this game, not to mention glowing reviews from almost every single video game magazine or website, there really isn't much that I can say about Soul Calibur that hasn't already been said. It's one of those games where you keep on noticing graphical details (like how you can see your fighter's breath in the cold winter backgrounds) and finding new secrets (like the awesome mode where you get to completely remake the opening cinema sequence) months after you buy it. And even if you don't like fighting games all that much, you should get it just so you can see what Sega's spiffy new console can do in terms of graphics and sound. On the other hand, if you love fighting games, you'll find a game that truly earns everything that's been said about it.

Hard to stop playing

This is not a game for young children! It is very violent, therefore parents should be warned. It, thankfully, does not have blood and guts violence, but it is a fighting game, and should be treated as such.

Now for my addiction to it... I cannot stop playing it. I find it to be a very engaging game. If there is only one video game for the Dreamcast, this is it!

Having played Virtua Fighter on Sega, we got the Dreamcast version and have played it very little. Soul Caliber moves more fluidly, allowing novice gamers to fight well without all the tricks normally involved. That is not to say that there aren't special keys to discover, there are plenty. But, for anyone who loves fighting games, but wants new and fresh backgrounds, this is it. It's beautiful to watch and fun to play! What are you waiting for?

...the best thing since sliced bread!

Once again, Namco has set the standard of home conversions, and Soul Calibur is definitely no exception. Definitely a vast improvement over the original, Soul Calibur is jam-packed with new characters, new features...everything! Each character is loaded with plenty of moves, and the myriad of modes (survival, time attack and the coolest one ever, mission battle) keep the game fresh for ages to come. The music suits the stages perfectly, and the graphics have to be seen to be believed. And most importantly, each character is loaded with techniques, so don't think you're gonna master it straight away. Yet the only downside to this masterpiece is that the computer seems dopey. For example, the CPU Taki will try to flip over my character, but will ring out instead. Even playing it on the hardest difficulty setting seems easy! However, give S.C a whirl, because it's a game you'll be playing for a LONG time...

Honestly this is the best fighting game ever, but....

Okay, this was one of the first games i bought for the segadreamcast, and ever since i bought this game, i have to say that it isthe most visually stunning game i have ever seen. Nothing can come close in graphics(except for maybe Maken X) but anyways, here's how precise the graphics are, INDIVIDUAL STRANDS OF HAIR flutter in the wind when the characters are fighting, as does clothing and numerous other parts of the fighter. As for controls, they are extremely precise and there are so many attacks that you seriously will have to sit down and go through each character for a day only to learn maybe half the moves they can perform. Presentation... :this game pushes the limits, you can change the intro movie to your liking and they are dead serious about the type of characters they have created, each character has his or her own story and ending, each on also has his or her own fighting style, in a option called EXHIBITION theatre the life like characters will let you watch them practice their moves and they do it with the utmost realism, for example, a character named ivy will take her sword and turn it into a Blade-Whip, now we all know that of course the blade is sharp and ivy can just hold it like any old whip, so she has a metal arm which she uses to handle the blade part of the whip, so when you see her exhibition you'll notice that she only handles the blade with that hand and not the other, its amazingly realistic. NAMco decided not to dub the game, rather there are english subtitles, but this takes nothing away from the game. Actually the japanese (or whatever language its in) dubbing is completely in sinc with the characters mouth, each character also has facial expressions they can use, all i wish is that Namco brings a hand to hand combat game (I WANT TEKKEN! ) to the DC console.

The DC's Superior Gem in the rough...GET IT NOWW!

3 Weeks ago, I finally began playing my copy of this splendid game on my newly brought dreamcast, and what I found was gameplay, visuals, sound, and controls that's all EXTREMELY worth dying for. Be warned though, most of the fighters in this game could take some really good mastering and practice(especially on the DC controller), but once you master their moves, this game becomes a thrill ride you'll never forget. What you saw in the original Namco System 12 arcade game wont compare to what you are going to experience at home with this version, and with allmost 20 characters to master, a BIG bag full of gameplay modes, a Mission Battle mode guarranteed to be challenging, and all 338 art cards to purchase for extra goodies that await you(wait until you witness the Metalliac Mode for the characters, you'll jaw will DROP IN SECONDS!!), the replay value in this game will skyrocket to astronomical levels!! Get your copy while you still can, because when they're gone(along with the remaining DC's left in stores), they're all gone!

THIS GAME ROCKS!!!!

The best weapons artists gather in a extreemly realistic fighting game.
If you've played the arcade version of soul Caliber you get the basic concept; beat the crap outta people or get the crap beat outta you.

This game is kinda like Tekken, only with swords and knives and stuff.
I'm a big fan of all fighting games (Tekken's my favorite) so i couldn't pass up buying this one.
At first it seemed like you average brawler (stab a sword into some one, slit their throat) but after i got the hang of all the combos and specials, it totally changed. It went from button smashing fest to tactical dodges and blocks. Just the thought of parrying and attacking in a single swift movement makes it even more addicting.
The play control is spot on, running, ducking, dodging, blocking, stabbing, simply amazing.
Even if it is for the dreamcast that fact doesn't take the thrill away from the game.
Ifyou are like me and own a dreamcast but can't afford to buy a PS2 or
X Box for soul caliber 2, then don't pass this oportunity up. Soul Calber 1 is just as good.
Buy this game now!

A true Instant Classic

Even though this game was one of the first titles for the Dreamcast, it still has some of the best graphics and gameplay of any fighting game. Soul Calibur has it all. The characters are higly detailed, with hair and even teeth! The fighting arenas look simply amazing, with very detailed areas even far into the backround. Add some good music, and you have a game that's very appealing to the senses. The fighting is just as good. Using weapons based combat, Soul Calibur is one of the most detailed fighters ever. There are eight different ways to run in a 3D enviroment, and tons of moves to discover. You'll be finding new moves months after you get it! The combat system is also very balanced, making each fighter deadly in their own way. In the end, Soul Calibur is an excellent game, and definitely on of the best on the Dreamcast, even better than Tekken Tag for PS2. This is definitlely an instant classic.

Ages like a fine wine.

Not that this game is "old", but when you consider it's a game from 1999 that's exclusive to a dead console system, it's amazing to realize that this game is arguably better than any other combat game out there even today. The graphics made full use of the Dreamcast's capabilities, and even now it is one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen. The combat moves are fluid and based on real martial arts...there is even a martial arts display mode where you can see all the characters doing various weapon katas! It is a good game for both button mashers and pros. There is no "blood" which makes it a bit unrealistic when you see someone getting hacked with a huge axe and not bleeding; but that doesn't detract from the experience because this isn't that sort of game. The abundance of modes allows for a high replay value. The only thing I would knock is the end-stories, which are a bit corny and considering the animation in the gamplay itself, it feels a bit like a copout to see the endings as just still life. However, that's all nitpicking.

This game is the reason to buy a dreamcast, and it is still worth it to buy this game and then go find someone selling a dreamcast so you can buy and play it. Have fun!

What can I say about this game that hasn't been said already? It's breath-taking. Amazing. Life-like. Addictive. Mind-boggling. Fun, even if you HATE fighting games. This is the only fighting game I have EVER truly loved. You can't help but develope a bond with your favorite character. Mine is Sophitia. Beautiful, fluid, precise, deliberate. You just HAVE to see this beauty, in her 3rd outfit, doing her Kata in Exhibition Theatre! (After you've "unlocked" that feature, of course) I finished everything there was to finish in this game, 5 months ago. I STILL play it all the time. I'll actually dump my saves on my VMU, and start all over. There is no way you can go wrong buying this game. None. Like I said, even if you don't like fighting games. You'll be hooked in the short amount of time required to learn the basic moves. My son pleaded with me to give it a try, and I was hooked 15 minutes later.

One of the best fighting games

Soul Calibur is one of the best games that I have ever played on any game console. Mitsurugi is my favorite character but there are several characters that I like in the game. The graphics are very impressive, second only to Dead or Alive 2 as far as fighting games are concerned. But what makes this game one of the best fighting games on any system is that it is the most sophisticated fighting game that is out now. You have arcade, team battle, time attack, survival, extra survival, practice, mission battle mode, exhibition mode, battle theater mode, art gallery mode, profile mode, several different extra characters, and tons of other stuff. The Mission battle mode along has several different ways to play the game which will add interest to playing the game for a very long time. First you have to earn most of the secrets in the game by beating the mission battle mode and then after you beat it(very long and challenging), you can still play it again. Anybody that has a Dreamcast and likes fighting games should definitely get this game.
