This game is great, 1 or 2 player, many options, lots of moves, a cool and different fighting system from SF2 clones, use of weapons, Superub GRAPHICS, great sound, and addicting fun, this is a must have DC title.
Definitely one of the best out there

Apart from the jaw-dropping graphics, the gameplay is awesome, the sound effects are phenomenal, and the story, and character creation are comparable to a box-office hit. Just when you think you have bored yourself, you will find something new. Tons of extra features that can be discovered and played with. I found that this game definitely raises the bar on other games, almost unfairly so. Definite good purchase.

Well, what can I say about this game except that it is the greatest most amazing, fun, fighting game I have ever played? Not much. The graphics are amazing, the sound is great, the controls are easy and fun. This is the first fighting game I have played and probably that last, meaning that you can't get much better than this. If you are looking for a new game for your Dreamcast this should be it (unless you already have it then you know what I'm talking about) I highly recomend this game to everyone!

I'm in college right now, and my friends were stunned when they saw my Dreamcast in my room. They saw the amazing graphics in Sonic Adventure, they witnessed some chaotic (but fun) fights in Power Stone, they felt like they were actually fishing when they fired up Sega Bass Fishing with the rod, and they laughed at the funny characters in Ready 2 Rumble. They have since stopped playing those games when they come over. Soul Calibur, however, is the game that keeps them coming back for more; they never grow tired of it. The amazing graphics stun them and the equally stunning gameplay keeps them hooked. We have had some epic matches, and despite all the studying we put in, we always find time to play Soul Calibur. In my opinion, Soul Calibur is the game of the year for 1999.
An interesting note: the opening cinema is generated in realtime; it is not pre-rendered FMV. Keep that in mind when your jaw drops upon seeing it.
Soul kicks butt!

It's a great game! The graphics are amazing and the story line is good. The moves are easy to learn, but once you've mastered it, the computer is very easy to beat.
You need this game! ^_^

I wasn't expecting Soul Calibur to be even HALF as awesome as turned out to be! This game is truly a classic in virtually every way. I don't know about you, but I've always hated polygon-based fighting games like Tekken or whatever due to all the visual errors that polygons are prone to {Shifting, jumping, intersecting, etcetera}. To put it briefly, all those problems have been COMPLETELY ELIMINATED from Soul Calibur! Add along with that excellent music, flawless and beautiful characters and animation, really lovely CG artwork and one of the most {If not THE most} intricate fighting systems ever in a game of this kind! I was also surprised to see that there was no blood in the game, which, in my opinion, is for the better! Who wants to see a cute girl get dismembered? Oh yeah, let's not forget the girls! If you appreciate VERY sweet animé girls then you'll go nuts over these babes! They are perfect in every way; in fact, if they weren't in the game, i doubt i would like it much. But they are. Now go buy it.
A Fighting video game at its finest

I have owned my Dreamcast for nearly a yera now and had been waiting to find a solid fighting game. Many people say that Tekken Tag Team for the PS2 is amuch better game, but it is basically the same as Tekken 3 with enhanced graphics and doesn't have all the things that make Soul Calibur so much fun. I was thinking about looking for Virtua Fighter, but then saw a review that gave Soul Calibur 10 out of 10. I read the review that it was like Virtua Fighter, but with way better graphics, more fighting stages and of course, awesome weapons to fight with. This game has several modes in it including vs. where you can play head-to-head aginst a friend, and arcade mode which is the best and most fun mode in this game. In arcade mode you chose one of several characters to fight with. Each character has different weapons like axes, swords, num-chucks, etc. and different strengths and weaknesses. After you have succesfully beaten all 8 stages you will un-lock a new stage to fight on or a new "soul" or character to fight with that is usually much stronger than the normal characters. If you are looking for a fighting game for your Dreamcast, Soul Calibur is a must-have. And at the price of Dreamcast games these days, you just can't pass up the price on this great game.
Yes this is the greatest fighting game ever made...

I'm make this short and sweet. This is the greatest fighting game ever. And this is a DC exclusive and will forever be one of the best DC games ever. It has everything I love about fighting games. First off the visuals are just so juicy. Not as sharp as SC2 but still great visuals even for this time of the year. The game has some really great things added to this DC version such as a mission mode, it's like a story mode, what you do is buy art galleries to start new mission, trust me it'll keep you in for weeks especially since it's for EVERY CHARACTER! The game has some other neat things added to this game such as
Practicemode
Mission Mode
Survival Mode
ARCADE MODE, which you can unlock characters.
And some other neat things but I will tell you right now if you do have a Dreamcast don't keep it to dust and play GTA on your Ps2. You need this game for the Dreamcast. This is one of the reasons people got a Dreamcast....I got it as a gift from my aunt and took advantage of it by getting the games..And this gem was one of them. Listen..do your self a favor and get this game...heck even Gamespot gave this game 10 and it's extreamly hard getting a good score on this game.. The visuals arn't as great as SC2 and that is pretty much the only thing wrong with it.. Bottom line
Good
Superb Visuals on the DC
Great extras for the DC version
MISSION MODE ROCKS
Controlls are easy to get use to
Loads of play time and Arcade Mode is a blast
Bad..
Hmmm....Nothing
Ugly
Nothing...
GREATEST FIGHTING GAME EVER ONLY ON THE DREAMCAST!
I give it a 5 out of 5 stars!!

this game has got an amazing amount of hype, electronic gaming monthly gave it all 10s, putting it in the same category of metal gear solid. This is very wrong. Sure, the game is fun, but it certainly isnt the best game ive ever played , and doesnt even go on the top five i dont think. It is just a fighting game after all and that can get a bit boring and frusterating, and while i like fighting games, they're not my favorite genre of games. If you absolutely LOVE fighting games, or play a game just for it's graphics(which are amazing by the way) then yeah, sure, get it. if you just LIKE fighting games, give it a rental if you can, then if you really like it, buy it. While not the best game ever made, it sure is the best fighting game ever made
NOT all it's hyped up to be

Being a big huge of Soul Blade, I was immediately taken by a sequel, however, in terms of inovation, Soul Calibur doesn't offer much.
Soul Calibur has breathtaking graphics. When I turned on my Dreamcast and began to play it it was instantly disappointing. If you've played Soul Blade then don't be expecting the awestriking intro that game had. Soul Calibur's intro has... great graphics, but it's bland.
From there it just got more and more disappointing. The weapon meter is gone! You can never lose your weapon. The Edge Master mode is gone, replaced by the ultimately uninspiring Mission mode, which is the same for every character.
In the additions, Soul Calibur improves. It has almost double the characters of Soul Blade, but alot are (as goes with alot of fighting games) copies of the original characters. It includes a extra sirvival mode, and an exhibition mode, both of which are good (though, as the exhibitions go, if the character is a copy, so is their exhibition.) But, Soul Calibur's graphics were good.
If you buy Soul Calibur that is what you will get: good graphics. In terms of inovation, don't look here. It is fun, the control is good, but, hardcore gamers, don't torture yourself by thinking it's going to be as good as Soul Blade.
