The Legend Will Never Die

Now this is one for keeps. Once again Namco have proven that they are probably the greatest games manufacturer ever. After producing Soulblade I thought that they would never top the sequel. But... I was glad to be so wrong. This is definitely the best game ever so far to be released on any platform. What can I say graphics gameplay continuous challenges. Absolutely, awesome. Only let down a couple of the old characters such as Li Long are replaced with others but with Identical fighting styles so what the hey.

My Advice: If you haven't got it BUY IT! If you haven't got a Dreamcast then BUY ONE! Just for this game it's well worth it.

Fighters Can Not Live By Graphics Alone

In brief: the graphics detail and character motions are incredibly realistic, but even on the Ultra Hard mode this game is easy for button-mashing players to beat.

I thought Virtua Fighter 3tb had awesome graphics, but Soul Calibur charachters move so realisticly the motion capture programmers ought to receive an award. You can see the characters chests heave as they breathe. You can see their breath on the cold stages. Their hair blows in the wind.

The game falls so short in challenging play. After 4 hours of playing I beat all 8 characters in 3:54 at the Easy level. Then for a challenge I set the game on Ultra Hard, and I beat the game in 7:43! This was my first day of playing the game; I never played the arcade version. I didn't even have to learn the character's moves, and you can forget about blocking. As long as you mash on the buttons and attack then eventually you will beat the game.

You can select Mission mode where a character called the Edge Master forces you to practice blocks, throws, and attacks. I found this character MUCH harder to beat than any character on Ultra Hard level. They should have put this guy as the 9th character to beat!

If you like eye candy, and some challenge then this game is for you. If you like a more difficult challenge then try VF3.

Not as east to play or as fun as Ready 2 Rumble.

Sure at first glance this game looks nice, and if you own it, it can be enjoyable, but what about your friends who have no idea how to operate the "8-way run system" or how to "guard impact." I end up spending more time explaining to my friends how to play it than I do actually playing it. With Ready 2 Rumble, I tell my friends there are four punch buttons and two block buttons. That's all. Unless your friends are as into Soul Calibur as you are, buy Ready 2 Rumble.

Soul Calibur is the WORST!

This game stinks - it's way too easy to beat, there aren't enough characters, enemies are brainless, stages are way too small, and the only thing good about it is the graphics. This is nothing compared to Ready 2 Rumble. I hate this game!

Stunning graphics. Brainless AI.

All the good things you read about this game are true. It is a real pleasure to look at and to hear. The control is near-perfect (it takes a while to get used to manuvering around the fighting area), and responsiveness is so quick it's mind-boggling.

But as of yet, not one person has mentioned the one flaw in the game. The computer can't play. I don't mean it doesn't have that option; I mean it doesn't have any ability. I had never played the game before on any platform when I picked a random player and then - pushing random buttons - beat the game. Using the same strategy (random player, random buttons), I increased the skill level to 'Hard' and beat it again, still without losing a battle. I finally lost one fight when I increased the skill level to 'Ultra-Hard', the top level available (so far, anyway). Even then, I won three fights first.

The game is beautiful. And in two-player mode, it is a ton of fun. But you'll never get good playing against the computer. Don't take my word for it, just do yourself a favor and really play the game before you buy it. I'm sorry that I didn't.

I truly love those realistic fighting games that use (somewhat realistic moves - without powerballs and glowing punches). For the most part, SC gives that. On the PSX, Soul Blade is an excellent game, and I love all the characters and their variety as well as the mission mode. While I feel SC is a great fighting game in the same way, I don't believe that the creators used the full power of the system. Perhaps some blood or bruising could have been added. Or perhaps just something that makes it a little more realisticl. I am not a sadist. I just believe that if you get a game system that has twice the power, that it should show up in the games. Don't get me wrong; it's a great game, but not as good as it could have or should have been.

I'll give it 2...

This is an ok game. The graphics are probably the why you see two stars on my rating. Other than that, it's just a regular old fighting game. To me, the game got boring after about 30 minutes. And mainly all you use with a character is the same for or five moves. I mean, how many of you out there will spend your whole weekend trying to master all the moves on one charcater and execute them well? Exactly(and if you do, that's pretty sad.) Like I said, for each character your only really going to be pulling of 4 or 5 moves, and that gets boring. And you can't relly punch in this game because you have something like a 10 foot ax in your hands trying to swing it around. Now, if you want to know some good fighting games, then I highly insist that you try Tekken tag, for PS2. I mean, with over 30 chaacters to start off with, different modes, what more can you ask for? Soul Calibur I think doesn't really give the character your controlling much mobility, just the opposite of Tekken Tag. Another great fighting game is the Powerstone series, try either one of them, because they are both crazy heart-pounding action. If you really want this game, then go ahead and buy it. But for all of you who haven't played it, rent it first.

it is too difficult to repeat complicated moves. this game requires to much precision to make the fighters do what you intend.

This is, without exception, the BEST FIGHTING GAME EVER MADE. PERIOD

Read the other reviews, everything positive said about this game is true. I know thats a bold statment but graphics, gameplay, story, modes, music, replayabilty is all EXCELLENT.

Don't listen to any Sony fanboys that are mad that Soul Calibur was a Dreamcast exclusive - It truly does live up to the "hype" (Its not really hype when its absolutely true, utterly amazing)

I hope you have the chance to enjoy the fighting game to end all fighting games.

A Huge Dissapointment

For The Love Of God Don't Believe The Hype! This game had so many people kissing it's butt it wasn't funny. I got it and it was a huge let down. Soul Blade on psone was better then this! Sure it's all pretty, but it's basically just a virtua fighter clone with wepons and smaller backgrounds.alot of the charactors are basicly the same (Astoroth&Rock/Mina&Kilick/Lizardman&Sophitia/Inferno&Edgemaster) The backgrounds while pretty are basically just the old 2-D backdrops used on the first 3-D fighters. The "innovative" world tour mode had been done in SFA3 already so that wasn't a huge plus either. Dead or Alive 2 kicked this things butt as did the painfull to play VF3. If you have either of those forget about this.
