Everything you have heard is true, however. . . .

Take a look at the character designs! Half the cast wereripped off from Toshinden. And what is up with the Elvis-impersonatorwith Charlie's hairstyle! Another flaw is that there are too many "clone" characters. I thought Namco had already learned that lesson from the Tekken series but I am unfortunately mistaken. END

Blows away Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and even Teken....

This is without a doubt the best game for the Dreamcast. If you own this game and you have friends or family for competition around to compete with then you know exactly what I am talking about.

Classic fighting game. Namco did something right here. They created a perfect fighting game. This was an arcade, but didn't get any attention like the great Teken series.

This game looks just like the arcade if not better. Sega really came though. I have a dreamcast and only 3 games. This is one of them. This came is the main reason I purchased the Dreamcast almost 2 years ago.

The characters are the best I have ever seen. With ease they blow away simple characters like Sub Zero, Ryu, or Paul from other fighting games.

The weapon advancement to each figher is pretty brillant also. The sound for this classic is nice too.

Each character has his or her own stage. The stages are mind-blowing. Don't just take my word for it, rent the game and waste 4 or 5 dollars becaues after you play it you are going out to your local Best Buy to get this game.

ITS THAT GOOD. Give credit where credit is due. Thanks Namco for making the perfect fighting game.

Overrated pile of junk

I can't understand why people like "Soul Calibur" so much. Yeah, it has nice graphics, but eye-candy can't save a game that is simply NOT FUN TO PLAY! There is no fighting strategy, no combos, no special attacks, no jumping, no nothing. You just have to press the same attack button on the right time again and again and again to win any fight. Of course, it gets very dull in a few minutes.

If you think gameplay is more important than graphics, get "King of Fighters" (either "KOF Dream Match" or "KOF Evolution") or "Fatal Fury - Mark of the Wolves" instead.

the best fighter, right abov teken 3

There is doubt about it, this was the game that showed the dreamcast could be a major competitor. Being a big fan of the arcade version, I must say(for the billionth time), that this one surapasses the arcade version. This is a very strategic fighting game, And it is extremely deep gameplay. Although my only compaint is that a button masher can beat the computer. That is my compliant about all 3-d fighting game(as opposed to earlier, Street Fighter2, And Street fighter alpa, series games.), is that button mashing can get you over. Although, in 3-d fighting games(like Tekken and, of course Soul Calibur), you cant pull off impressive, beautiful, combos with just button mashing. For the most part, this game has alot of relay value, lots of of unlockable characters. The mssion mode, which adds even more to replay value, and the cool museum mode. In my opinion, Time attack mode, is useless. The survival mode, while great, is just too easy. Another problem, the final Boss, Inferno. He is pretty easy as well. But this is common in 3-d fighters. But all in all this is a solid fighting game. It is just a bit too easy. Even ultra hard mode, can be easily won by a competent Soul Calibur player.(although button mashers can win the first two stages). This game is a must-have for Dreamcast owners.

I own an XBOX, but keep using my DC just for this game.

Until Soul Calibur 2 hits the shelves, I am not going to disconnect my Dreamcast. Soul Calibur is still the best game ever, and for the prices they are now, is better to buy a Dreamcast and this game than to buy a $50 game for any other console.

Grab it before it's allllll gone!

Instead of telling how good this games is and all the great fitures it has OH!! and of course the graghics cause there really nothing to say, I mean the games pretty much speek for it self. If you own a dreamcast the hek this game alone is worth buying the Dreamcast for. I insult you if you are a dreamcast owner and don't have this game. No second thought about it just get it, capish.(If you can)

the best game

Awesome! Definitley worthy of a five star rating. We often played this game at work for hours where the competition was intense mitigated by outbursts of laughter. Some people preferred the zen type characters, others the more direct powerful but slower brutes complete with axe or broad sword and shield. Just some sophisticated combo moves which really surprised. Loads of enjoyment. Would love to be able to purchase this game in New Zealand!
