WORKING OUT for those that are DRAINED!!!

Well I got Wii fit for my birthday. Now I used to be a avid runner, in great shape. Over the years, I stopped and put on some pounds. Lately I just have not been motivated to work out, by anything. Even after purchasing a excercise bike.

BUT THIS MAKES ME WANT TO WORK OUT! It is fairly easy, and if you want, you can do 30 minutes at one time. I usually do the run, and look hilarious running around the house, but it does WORK!. I have lost 10 pounds since I have started.

Sure there are some little annoyances, like the fact you have to listen to the trainers talk, and after each work out wait a few seconds for it to score you. Other then that it is pretty interesting and fun.

GREAT IDEA for someone who is not that fit, to someone who is fit.

I would recommend this for anyone who has had trouble sticking to excercise. If I can do it, and lord knows I hated excercising before this game.

BUY IT!! It is so worth it.

By tricking you into exercising to get points and fill graphs, Wii Fit keeps technophile nerds motivated and organized.

First things first: I'm a PC game player almost exclusively. I haven't owned a console and put it to serious use since, well, the Atari 2600. I bought the Wii for two reasons: to get my wife into gaming and for the Wii Fit. So far, the Wii Fit has been a very satisfying success.

There are four main sections to the game: yoga, strength training, aerobics, and balance games. Yoga and strength training are the most legitimate exercises, with fifteen different types of exercise each. These two groups have a personal trainer (male or female) explaining and demonstrating the moves for you before letting you do them yourself. The aerobics and balance sections are more game-like, although the aerobics activities definitely get your heart pumping and the sweat flowing. These two sections also make heavy use of the Mii characters, which is entertaining in and of itself. The balance games are the most entertaining and accessible, but probably the least likely to get you in shape.

You begin with only a handful of exercises and activities available, but as you start putting time into working out, you unlock more positions and moves. It's a great motivator, since you'll want to keep working out to see what else is available. The activities seem to increase in difficulty and intensity at a nice steady pace, as you unlock more challenging moves and the option to do more reps for previously opened ones.

The balance board peripheral is able to sense how well you're balanced for all the activities, and is remarkably sensitive. The designers did a great job thinking out how all the activities would work out in practice, and the game can tell a lot about how you're doing based on your center of gravity. In fact, on one occasion, I was doing something, lost my balance, and had to put my foot on the ground to regain it. The game immediately called me out: "You put your leg down, didn't you?" I had to chuckle at that. It's great to be able to get continuous feedback about how you're doing, instead of doing it alone and hoping you've got it right.

As many have said, you can cheat on most of the activities if you want to, but if you are, you're a pretty pathetic person, and wasting your time and money pointlessly.

The graphics in the yoga and strength training sections are pretty basic, but more than sufficient to understand the poses and exercises. The aerobics and balance section have pretty whimsical graphics, but they look nice as well.

The sound is decent, with verbal instruction for the yoga and strength portions, and silly and catchy tunes for the aerobics and balance sections.

It is true, the Wii Fit system isn't perfect, since you can't program a series of activities continuously, and must instead select them one by one, stopping in between each to move on to the next. Still, the delays are minimal, and you can do quite well if you're focused.

One of the best parts of the entire system is the ability to do daily body tests, which tell you how much you weigh, your BMI, and your Wii Fit age. The most useful part of this is the graph, which shows your progress towards goals of your choosing. I'm always making goals like this, and wanting to keep track, but being able to have it up on a TV screen, all neat and organized, motivates me like nothing else. The fact that you can also record out-of-game activities on your exercise chart is also great motivation to actually DO other physical fitness activities outside of the game. I have been on and off into yoga for almost a decade, and this provides great motivation to do it and add the time to my daily workout chart. This might not motivate everyone, but for a guy who's been keeping virtual score for decades, this is the just the thing.

Overall, the Wii Fit is as useful as you make it. If you're just looking to goof off, you can certainly do that, but if you're serious, this will definitely be a key component of your exercise regime. I will make one other note. As someone with a lot of experience with yoga, I found most the yoga and strength training exercises familiar, and understood what they were trying to achieve. For someone with little or no experience in those areas, it might be well advised to look some things up online to familiarize yourself with them before diving into this "game." Still, I can heartily recommend the Wii Fit for anyone that has a strong desire to get into shape.

Wii fit is a Hit

I just received my Wii Fit yesterday and wanted to post my comments. The Wii fit is pretty sturdy but seems just a little small. My size 10 foot goes from back to front with no space at all. The games are fun but seem pretty difficult for a guy like me who according to the Wii must trip a lot when I walk. Overall I think the Wii Fit is a Hit. My whole family will be using it and I don't think you will grow tired. My wife had 4 Hula Hoops going on her first try yesterday. If the platform was a little bigger and you could plug in 2 Fits to work out side by side it would be 5 stars.

What more can I say....

What more can I say that others have not? Not much. The Wii Fit is a fun interactive game that really moves you and forces you to take a look at how fit you are physically. I wouldn't say it's going to replace your gym membership if you have one, however it will give a good workout on those days you don't feel like going to the gym, yet you still want to get some form of daily movement or on your off day and you still want to do some light cardio or strength training.

Yoga - Great for posture and stretching. I could feel how stiff my body was the next morning. I haven't felt like that even after I've gone to the gym. It is helping to relax.

Strength - This is the hardest area for me. I'm using my own body weight as resistance it isn't easy. Be prepared!

Aerobics - The Hula Hoop is great, I really don't care for the jogging - but how does get your heart rate up - I used my Mio Motiva HR watch to see if I could hit my HR target and I did. I love the Step dance thingy! You really have to watch what you're doing.

Balance - The Balance games are probably the most fun. I like the Ski Jump the best.

In all, I think if your plan your workout with Aerobics first to raise your heart rate, then move to the Strength training and then Yoga and lastly to the Balance games to bring your HR down, you'll get a complete workout in 30 minutes. (WiiFit credits keep track of your time)

My kids and I are now in a competition to see who can do it better! It is definitely something the entire family can enjoy!

...and give each kid half-hour turns. That's how we do it.

What really gets me moving is that Wii Fit is competitive, and I can see my progress by my score for each of the games and activities. The visual feedback is immediate and helpful (for example, keep the ball in the circle while balancing on one foot, etc) and shows how well this game was designed for nongamers or nontraditional gamers.

I was pretty impressed by the Wii system to begin with, but this is really something else. As a wife and mom of 3, I hold the household record in the Ski Jump. (All those years of watching the Winter Olympics has finally paid off.) I also have better balance than my kids, ha! And I'm the couch potato of the family. That's not to say this is easy; it continues to be a challenge for all of us, and we're still only at the beginner level on everything. But it is fun to see how the kids are better at some skills than others. And, after years of talking about it, I'm finally actually trying yoga, and it is not as easy as it looks!

If you appreciate how Wii Sports gets players up and off their behinds, then I think you will be extremely pleased with Wii Fit.

Great game, but be careful!!

I have been playing Wii Fit for 11 days straight now. As many of the reviews have already stated, it's addictive and provides many hours of fun and a good workout to boot. But beware!! Wii Fit is not like your typical video game where you can play for hours straight through non-stop. Because I was so excited and pumped to get a good score, I have already strained my left pectoral and shoulder muscles trying to earn four stars in the Push Ups/Side Plank exercise! This was my fault because I went past my body's physical limits (duh). Although many of these exercises aren't available at first, some of them may be too advanced for some even after they've been unlocked (i.e. the shoulder lift/hold position in Yoga). TAKE IT SLOWLY and don't force these exercises if you can't do them at first!! The game does caution on some of the exercises (i.e. be careful not to strain your back while doing the cobra stretch in Yoga). I have learned my lesson, and hopefully won't have to go to physical therapy to work out the kink in my muscles due to overdoing it on the Wii Fit!!

Now I know why Wii Fit is a hit!

I am having loads of fun with this game. I did not think I would say that about a video game. My children and I fight over who's going to play first. Who would have thought that a 40 year old will fight over a video game with a 9 year old?

Great way to fit in some exercise.

I thought this was a great idea when I saw it. It's hard to find the time to exercise, and then you also need workout clothes and shoes to go to the gym. Wii Fit makes it easy to work out in your own living room without a lot of equipment. It's even better when you can do it with your bare feet. The hula hoop activity is a lot of fun and gets your heart pumping. I also have enjoyed the Ski Jump; now I can finally beat my husband at a game! It feels so much more interactive using the board, than just the controllers. The activities are fun, and best of all they make you want to come back and try to beat your score. Not many exercise programs can claim that. I've been very pleased with this purchase! I can't wait for other games that will use the balance board.

Fitness, Fun, Family-wii love it!!

I just got my Wii a month ago and am thrilled to have easily picked up the WII FIT. I have a family of 4 with 2 younger kids and we all like the system and the Wii Fit. We have only had it (Wii Fit) since yesterday and we all have set up profiles-takes about 15 min each and enjoyed exercising. If you don't want other people looking at your profile you can make a password for it. :) That being said....
I will simply say---I love it! It is helpful, challenging, rewarding, fun, interesting and of course helps your overall health. I like how you can track your weight and set weight loss or gain goals. It also keeps track of how long you exercise, what types of exercise you did and what days you exercised.

****If you are a Mom or Dad and can't or don't like to go out to a gym, this is a great way to get exercise (and have fun). **** Or--if you are embarrassed to go to the gym for some reason, this system is for you and much cheaper than a gym membership too. I believe WF has a 330lb weight limit.

It is nice because the kids will stand near me a do the aerobics or pretend they are skiing with me. We were all cracking up trying to play a balance game that requires you to "head" soccer balls.

*If you are looking for a new way to exercise in your home with some guidance, this is for you.*

The only thing I don't like about the WF so far is the losers faces. I think they over did the happy and sad part of winning and loosing in the game.

Nintendo does it again!

When I first heard of this, my first thoughts were it will be fun, but will it work. I picked it up friday from the game store, and went through all the Wii board snych, wieghing and basic body test. I bounced around doing several of the games and exercises for about 30 minutes. The next day I dove in further and worked out about an hour. The following day about 30 minutes. Over that amount of time I have lost 4 pounds. Four pounds in that amount of time is fantastic. Not only are all the exercises and games fun, but they are also effective. Kudos to Nintendo for hitting this one on the mark. I highly recommend this to everyone wanting to lose some weight at home!
