I just wanna say that this game rocks. It's easily one of the best looking games on the market right now and to top that, it's just flat-out fun to play. It does have a few flaws, the story is a tired cliche and it's a little short. The length of the game is excusable because of the sheer replay value. There's plenty of that. Playing through this game once is not enough and that's an understatement. You are ranked for your performance on every mission and going back and exploring what you missed before really makes the game a good buy. IF you're thinking of plunking down your $... on this, and you haven't played it yet, it's definitely a safe buy.

The graphics, alone, are worth the money, but this one has the gameplay to back them up.

A must buy

When people walk into the room when you are playing this game, they can't help but stop a watch. This is the most addictive game I have bought so far--even more than Grand theft auto III. There is no better word to describe this game but COOL.

This game is rocks!!!

For the people who have seen the demo version, you know how good this game is. For those people, like me, who never saw thw game till it hit the stores... YOU MUST GET THIS GAME. The graphics are great!! and it's smooth i mean really smooth. The story line gave you just enough information in the beginning to make you want to find out the rest of the story. Words really do not explain this game well enough, but trust me this game is worth the purchase price.

Amazing.

What a great game. The only downside to this game was that I finished it fairly quickly. If you like first person games where you have to go on 'missions', then this game is for you. Other than that, the game was amazing. It could have been a bit brighter though.

A review from who finished the game, Devil May Cry!!!

I live in Korea and I could get this game in my hand last August because it was released on 23 August in Japan. We are just located next to each other.

Few days later, I finished the last devil king, Mundus, and I saw the ending screen!!!

From the first title screen to the ending, I couldn't say anything unsatisfied.

Not many words are necessary!!!
On its release date, just get it ASAP!!!

From the first moment that you see the title screen, you'll lose yourself.
It is a fantastic world you'll ever experience.
So exciting, so real, so fun, and so coooooool!!!!

The feelings and the scenes that you'll get from this game will never forgotten till you die, I bet!!!

Not only stylish hard action and cool graphic, but also exciting story line and professional background music are emphasized.

I think this game is the BEST ACTION GAME of the year!!!

Fantastic action game . . .

This is a great action/puzzle (though the puzzle angle is minimal) game for the PS2. It somewhat resembles vagrant story for the PSOne, because it does have a very light role playing aspect. Don't get me wrong, though, this game's focus is on action. It moves fast and furious as you hack and shoot your way through the dark, evil environments. You play a half-man, half-demon bounty hunter that specializes in the supernatural. You're employed by a mysterious woman who seems to share your dark heritage to wipe out a devil prince. To do this you employ a wicked sword and guns, using them to advance through various enemies to your end goal. The main character is a highly skilled fighter with Matrix-like abilities. This game is a ton of fun. The only adjustment that would need to be made is controllable camera angles, as you often switch angles several times within the same room. As fast as the combat is, this becomes somewhat disorienting. As a role-playing fan, the character customization is a really nice touch, although a little more depth would be nice. The graphics are excellent and the music, switching from melodic and haunting to fast-paced electric for combat, is solid. This is a definate buy!

One of the Best PS2 Titles to Date

DMC is one of the Sony Playstation 2's highest quality games to date... and I'm not even writing this while the game is a new release. Devil May Cry was released by Capcom during a somewhat dry period of video game releases, and while it's still somewhat overlooked, DMC has some of the most solid gameplay of any shooter to date.

The plot isn't terribly thick, and the game has its flaws.. so why is DMC so spectacular? The controls are simple, the characters enjoyable, the soundtrack and graphics spectacular... and above all else, the combat is stylish beyond any other. As of the writing of this review (February 2004) no 3rd person action games can rival the glory that is Dante's style. The sword / gun combination is spectacularly smooth. LoK: Defiance, Max Payne 2 and other third person action / adventure games do a wonderful job, but they can't quite meet the same stylish magnificence that DMC enjoys.

Dante comes across as a very generic hero, but in reality he has a lot more depth than many give him credit for. While's he's always putting forward the façade of a fearless, trash-talking hunter, he is simply confident - though cautious. Whenever Dante is confronted by something bigger or more powerful, he always cautiously checks his surroundings while dispensing a fair amount of wit.

DMC also keeps some elements of the survival horror genre from which it came, while introducing uniquely RPG elements (such as - in a sense, leveling up - increasing your max HP, you maximum duration to perform magical attacks, being able to upgrade your character and buy new moves / attacks) while keeping a stylish flare.

Devil May Cry isn't for everyone, but if you've ever enjoyed any straightforward action game, or anything from Capcom's survival-horror genre... or fantasy, or adventure... give DMC a try. It's a spectacular game, albeit a bit tough at times.

DMC1 is right up there with Metal Gear and the Final Fantasy series in terms of quality entertainment. Give it a shot!

Devil May Cry: Action Gaming at its Finest

Devil May Cry is one of those games that is a joy to play from beginning to end. It is packed full of intense action, an entertaining storyline and a very cool main character. Dante can best be described as a half man, half demon bad-ass, who wields swords, gauntlets and various projectile weaponry--such as his hand-made handguns, Ebony and Ivory. The game is 23 missions long and includes several secret missions as well.

DMC is very challenging. Every new enemy is harder than the previous one you faced, which keeps the game from becoming a pushover. The bosses are very well designed and can be considered a bit pattern-based. The enemies will keep you on your toes throughout the scope of the entire game. While this sounds daunting, rest assured that you may purchase items such as health, more devil trigger gauges (Dante's demon form) and even a large assortment of new moves to aid you in your battle.

There are almost no problems with Devil May Cry. There are very few minor issues. Camera placement--while usually very good--can hinder the action and prevent you from seeing your enemies. Recovery time from jumps and firing heavier weapons prevents accurate dodging of some attacks. But that's just nit-picking.

There's really no excuse to not own Devil May Cry. It is a brilliant action game with loads of style and amazing gameplay. It is near flawless, extremely entertaining, and perfectly designed. Don't hesitate to pick up a copy.

BETTER THAN DEVIL MAY CRY 2

The graphics in this are 1 of PS2 best and so is the gameplay. There're great moves to kill all those enemies and there's an easy setting where you can push 2 buttons and do moves automaticly instead of the manual way on normal and hard.

The perfect action game

Like the title of this review suggests, this game may very well be the greatest action game ever spawned. Other than Halo, not too many games can compare to the sheer perfection of this game. This game may be an older PS2 title, but that doesn't mean anything. This game is a very original idea that isn't like anything else.

I call this game the perfect action game because it has lots of action, but not so much that it takes away from the story. Actually, the action and the cutscenes jump from one to the other with ease. The story is a very original concept and it will get you involved in the game in no time. The main character, Dante, is a bad-ass like no other. He is half-human, half-demon, and yes, he can unleash his inner demon to unleash devastating attacks unto his vicious enemies. Dante can also acquire many weapons in addition to his default-yet-cool twin pistols. Swordplay is smooth and powerful. Dante can clear a room of enemies, and the whole time he is being judged with a "style rating." The environments range from the large and open to the dark and cramped. True, the camera can be a bit troublesome, but a simple backflip can change that. So what if that tree is in the way? A true demon hunter can fight around the tree and slash away at the enemy's health!

So, all-in-all, this game is one that must be seen to be believed. So go out and play it and bask in the glory of Devil May Cry! Oh, and if you want to keep the love for this game alive, you might want to pass up Devil May Cry 2. It's nowhere near as good. Sorry. Let's rock!
