I really enjoyed this game, it had good play sequences and a pretty good story, truly amazing grahics and action and best of all - a 3D environment (for the most part). It was really fun. I kept it after finishing and will play it again.
Great game, with the exception of a couple MAJOR drawbacks

Devil May Cry is getting excellent reviews for a reason. However, it's important to note that there are a couple issues that might drive the easily frustrated game up the wall. One is the camera angles, which generally are only mildly annoying, but occasionally become extremely aggravating and frustrating. Another is the way save games work. You can save mid-mission, but when loading you are taken back to the beginning of the mission. I have no idea why they did it this way - perhaps to artificially inflate the difficulty. Both of these problems are inexcusible in my book. The camera angles in no way add to the game's atmosphere, gameplay, etc. The save game feature is nothing but frustrating. I still very much enjoy this game, but there are times when I get extremely frustrated with it.

Devil May Cry is a great game for the sheer fact that you feel like you're kicking major butt the entire time. It's a fun, but simple game. The monsters are not terribly hard, puzzles are easily solved, and the story isn't too imaginative, but they made up for that with the action. All you have to do is go crazy with the controller and you turn into a hyper active killing machine. The environments are beautifully detailed and the action is quite smooth. It is short game, but so are most. It's good to play when you don't feel like anything to complicated and want to get some frustrations out.

I picked up this game thanks to a review on a online game site. To my fortune, I am not dissapointed. The cinematics are very well done but I will get right to the gameplay.
The graphics are incredible: I would say even amazing. There are some levels were there are a lot of trees or columns around, and they will become transparent so that you have a clear sight of where the characters are. Awesome.
The music is ok and it moves with the rythm of the game: soft when walking around, louder and faster when in combat.
The gameplay is almost on a par with MetalGear. The character gets more powerfull weapons as you go along and by picking up Orbs (the currency on this game) you will be able to 'purhcase' special abilities for each one. The good part is that they are limited to around 6 per weapon, and so far there are 6 weapons available, so you don't get lost with all the abilities that you never used.
The scenarios are very, very well done. A couple of nights ago I was going though a creepy scenario of a deserted castle, and I was actually kind of scary beign in a dark room. It is that good.
The enemies are well designed and you actually WANT to find some more to blast around. This is what I liked most about the game. There is even a little message next to the power bar that ranks your moves from Dull to Awesome! (I think-You don't actually read them a lot because you have to concentrate on the game!)
The only dissapointing part of the game is that the plot is not that convincing. Like Final Fantacy and similar games, you get lost on what the final goal of the game is. Also, the female lead is not that good looking. She looks like Uma Thurman after a serious OD. But don't be confused, this is just me beign picky. The game, as I said, is number two on my list of PS2 must-haves (There are only 2 games on that list so far!)
WOW!

This game is one of the best games on PS2. It has top notch graphics, top notch sound. The only complaint i have is that the music sometimes drowns out the talking during cut scences. Other than that, this game totally kicks [butt]
Dante is the son of a demon, that stopped Mundus trying to take over the world (or something like that). But, Mundus is freed and its up to Dante to go to the demon world and try to stop Mundus. Very cool game! Worth playing at least once!

This, without a doubt, is the best game I have played for the PS2 since getting a unit last month. The graphics are incredible and it's just frustrating enough to keep you coming back for more. As a FPS lover this game took a while to get used to but once you do you will love it. Only negative? No cheat codes and the Pelican Codebreaker locked up my system
One of the best games of the year

When this game came out i wasnt really sure. I knew about Capcom games and knew that they sometimes do a great job. When i played it the graphics were amazing and i fell in love with it. The only bad part were the camera angles, i hated it cause you sometimes didnt know where the heck you were, but, in all, this games takes the cake in my PS2.
You MUST rent this game; you MUST NOT buy this game.

...the game is too short!
It's fun for the first couple hours, while you get used to blasting away at monsters of all types with infinite ammo, double jumping, doing insane sword/gun combos, looking at the very pretty graphics, etc.
After those few hours, though, you'll find the fighting to be incredibly shallow (i.e. the opposite of "deep") and even tedious as enemies regenerate after each pass through a room. Add to this the [easy] puzzles ("This statue seems to be missing something. Will you insert the scepter?" etc.) and you've got a game that I beat in five hours on easy (I rented it).
It's got some "whoa" moments near the end, with some truly monstrous monsters, but it's just too easy/short to warrant the great reviews it's gotten from magazines. Definitely worth renting, though.

Devil May Cry has been viewed as one of the coolest video games ever. After I recently completed playing it, I must say, it is one of the coolest games I have ever played. This game shines with coolness. Dante's unique personality, the detailed areas of the game, and the great introduction movie only contribute about 25% of the game's coolness. However, the game's coolness doesn't define the game. Trust me, there's much more to Devil May Cry.
The original plot is great, with Dante being a supernatural investigator who must complete a very tough mission. But this mission is very personal, it dates back to his legandary demon father, Sparda, who has left some unfinished business for his half demon son, Dante, to complete. After the introduction, the game hints at much more depth. Throughout the game you'll find that the plot turns out to be much more boring and unoriginal. And this depth, is way too broad. I did enjoy the plot, but it just wasn't detailed enough. And when the game does try to explain things, it all comes toward the last few missions, which leads to many missions in which you're doing things but you don't know why. Such as when Dante boards an old ship, but the game does not explain why and just makes the entire game seem pointless. Overall, the game's plot is really faulted but it's solid enough to be enjoyed.
Gameplay is solid. The camera is good, most of the time. Dante has great combat moves and good controls to contribute them. But the game's last few levels are just poorly designed. And there are plenty of other things which just confuse the player. Really strange things. Plus the game can get to repetitive. Every time you enter a room, enemies respawn and sometimes, don't quit. This really detracts from the entire fun factor.
Devil May Cry's graphics shine so much in certain scenes but the game just doesn't push the PS2. And the game has aliasing problems, major aliasing problems. The game's graphics just could have been 100% better.
Devil May Cry's sound are similar to it's graphical problems. It's good, but it's just could have been better. How about a little Dolby Digital? Or more convincing voice acting?
Devil May Cry is solid enough to be followed with a perfect sequel.
Easily Beatable

When I first Got Devil May Cry, I was Really impressed by the graphics, responsive controlls and the well thought out story-line. After the initial euphoria wore off, I began to realize that this game was way to easy, I beat the entire game in about 17 total hours, and died only once ( even though I fell off 200 foot cliffs several times). There wasnt enough choices in the game play,it was almost impossible to make a mistake in the missions and controlls,it took no skill at all to make huge jumps ect.. The biggest challenges were the secrect missions. Over all though it was a fun 17 hours.
