this game did not dissapoint a bit. if you liked onimusha you'll like this more because it delivers non stop action from begganing to end. You shoot down enemies with style and never gets old with great music in the background.and its great when you can upgrade all the way till you can fly in the air and shoot laser beams at your enemie. The only complaint is there isn't much of a story they only talk in the beganing and at the end of the game. But the gameplay makes up for it. The game was so much fun after i beat the game i played it all over again and i never do that.Buy this game and make the devil cry.

This is by far, the best action game on PS2 and will only be surpassed by MGS2. But it now.

A great choice to take over the Resident Evil reigns

I was greatly depressed when I found out Resident evil was leaving sony for the gamecube... but not anymore(after playing this game!) It first caught my attention when I found out it was originally intended to be a resident evil game. I can truly see some some similarities (think fixed camera angles :( Other than that, this game shines!! Making you collect orbs to "work" for new special moves is a great idea! At first, I had a little trouble not getting some of his moves mixed up, but after about an hour all was well. My hat goes off to you Capcom for a game worthy of filling the void left by RE's playstation injustice to move to the gamecube... What are u thinking??????

I think this game is great.Has great graphics and its so fun to swing the enemy in the air with your sword and then shoot the crap out of it with your twin pistols. You also get to turn into a really strong demon that gives you power for instance if you have the alastor sword your demon will have the power to be really fast in your demon mode and if you have the gauntlet of ifrit then it will be a fire demon you transform to.Buy this game you will be happy.

This is the first time I have actually taken the time to write a review for a video game. The imagery, the fluid action and moves, and the story was simply amazing. I had a hard time putting this game down for the next 2hrs and 2-3 hrs a day for the next week and a half until I finished it. Buy it. Play it. Live it.

BUY THIS GAME!!

I remember hearing about this game a couple years ago, but to be honest I never gave it much thought. A couple months later I bought Code Veronica X, which had the Devil May Cry demo included. I played the demo and I was immediately hooked, so of course when this game came out I bought it as soon as possible. This game is definitely one of the best for the PS2, and that's saying a lot! The graphics and gameplay coexist beautifully in this game, there is not a moment to where anything gets boring. When you're fighting enemies that is when the game really gets fast paced. You jump around, slash, shoot, and not slowly either. Those are Dante's basic moves, but what's really awesome is that you can "buy" new and more powerful moves. Since Dante has demon blood in him, you can use his limited Devil-like powers to kill off enemies faster. All of these moves are executed fluidly, so it's suffice to say there's not a single slowdown bit while fighting. There are plenty of varieties of enemies, and each of them are fun to fight especially when you have everything you can possibly get in the game. The control is not frustrating to handle either, which is a major plus. That's what I have to say for the gameplay, but what about the graphics? The cinemas are very spectacular indeed, as well as the in-game graphics. The environment around you, the enemies, etc. everything is executed fluidly. The music and overall sound fits the game perfectly, with it's gothic-like composition. However, no game is perfect all around, and this one is no different. They are only minor flaws though, so don't get too discouraged. The camera is the most noticeable problem, it has a tendency to shift to angles that are somewhat inconvienent. Most of the time the camera is just at the right angle, but sometimes when fighting the enemy it messes up just a tad. The bosses are graphically enhanced and fun to fight as well, but there seems to be more strength-enhanced bosses than different bosses you haven't seen. The storyline is very interesting, but there's some sort of element that needs to be in it that's not, I can't quite explain it. The game is fun as hell [pun not intended] but I kinda wish it could've been a bit longer. Don't me wrong, it's not an extremely short game but in my opinion there should've been more added. Overall Devil May Cry is a blast to play, and while it does get frustrating at times you will come to find out it was well worth your money. I know it was worth mine.:)

This game is the ultimate in graphics and realism. If you like fighting games with the weirdest villains alive this is the game for you. Don't be fooled by there appearence these monsters are of the hardest enemies I've ever faced on a video game. A warning this may give some people nightmares so don't play if your into fuzzy bunnies and little furry chipmunks. This game has one downside it's to hard. When its on normal I can't even get past the third level. Besides that though this game is real fun and creepy. Its a mixture of adventure, puzzle, and fighting its great for people that like movies like JasonX, Resident Evil,
and the Halloween series. Its real demonic and there is a lot of blood...

This game is awesome!! The camera angles could improve, and the text is kinda slow. But overall, this game kicks !! You get cool weapons, cool gameplay, and awesome graphics!! Dante is the coolest thing sinced sliced bread!!(tee hee)anyways, if your planning on getting this game, i'd recomend this to people gamers who like action shooter games. I like gorey games myself, but i think this game is for anyone who can handle gore,no matter there age. This is the best release yet.

Great Action, Nice Weapons, Shallow Storyline...

This has to be one of the greatest action-oriented games that Capcom has ever created. I greatly enjoyed this game, but the problem with the game is that it's too short (only about 7 hours top). The control for Dante is great, but sometimes, the camera fights with you, especially in two instances: boss fights (which sometimes gets really bad for you!) and platform jumping (which is just plain annoying). The ability to transform into two/three demon-types is great as well. The graphics displaying the demon-transformation is exceptional, for one of the initial Playstation 2 games. The environments became even better graphically at the end when all hell broke loose. There were only a few faults that I can name. First, the game was too short. Second, the game was too focused on a single area, and Dante had to continously retrace his steps. Third, the secret missions and such were just plain annoying. Lastly, the storyline could have been more developed.

pretty darn good
