Any fan of the Need For Speed series will be able to tell one thing from Need for Speed Underground, and that is that this new game is pretty much unlike any of the other previous titles in the series. This time through, Electronic Arts is breaking new ground for the series, and is going to the streets for racing flava this time through. Underground is all about street racing, which is seeming to be the next big thing in racing titles as the Midnight Club series has proven. But I am hopeful for something in this new game, and that is I hope that it's able to bring a new style to the street racing genre. I am a fan of Midnight Club, but let's face the truth. Midnight Club lacks many key components that prevent it from being the ultimate in street racing titles. Street Racing Syndicate and a game based on The Fast and the Furious are two other street titles currently in development, but from videos and playing demos of these two games at E3, they are shaping up to be quite lackluster. So far, Underground has terrific graphics, sound, and most important of all, gameplay and speed physics. The San-Francisco based city that the game takes place in looks sharp as well as nearly everything else that I have seen so far. EA has even brought in an Academy-Award winning special effects designer to help them in the game's building process. As far as Midnight Club goes, it lacks in sound, graphics, and above all, the game lacks in gameplay and style. Midnight Club and Midnight Club II both bored me just a week or so after playing them. Another poor feature of the MC series is average multiplayer racing. Underground is working very hard to be a great multiplayer experience on the PS2, and the multiplayer looks awesome so far. Another thing that I am excited about is customization. No other NFS titles have included customization to a heavy degree, but Underground does. You will start out driving, let's say, a normal Ford Focus, but depending on how you handle things, it could become the most awesome car on the streets. Yes, the series does look like that maybe it slowed down its gameplay a little bit, and another reason for this is because at least in the earlier stages of development for this game, it was possible to completely destroy your car, and it took a load of cash to repair. The slower pace may dissapoint some gamers, but I really don't have a problem with it. EA has never let me down, and let's all hope that they put enough time into Need For Speed Underground to make it a street racing masterpiece!

I saw alot of the previews and details for this game and it is hot. It is gunna have better cars, and the rumor is that therez cars that got spinning rims. This game got betta levels and better A.I. I dont think it'll be better than Gran Turismo 4, but it is a defintly good racing game for all racing gamers. Faster cars, better and more exciting courses, and better graphics. If I were you I would buy Need For Speed Underground together with Gran Turismo 4.

While i'm close to being a kid my self, upon reading the other reviews posted for this game i have to stop and ask my self....whats wrong with kids today. This game is so much fun, you'll put down halo. you'll put down GTA. you'll put down Gran Turisimo 4. These other reviews....with the exception of one...don't tell you about the game, just thier favorite cars and nos and "TRD". yea, ok guys, that has something to do with this game. The graphics are second to none. the gameplay is exciting and always gives you something to do. there are plenty of cars to choose from so you never get bored, and with all the body kit options, paint job options, and and decal options your car will not look even CLOSE to the same as someone elses. The A.I keeps you on your toes. So parents if your buying this for your kids, your picking well. no harsh violence, no bloody car wrecks. and kids your gonna love it
This game is amazing!!!!

Okay, here's the bottom line: NFS Underground is the all-around best game I have ever played. The feature that lets you customize the cars is insane. You can earn style points and unlock new parts for your car. The coolest thing I think is the vinyls. You can add up to 4 layers of this stuff, giving your car the ultimate look.
There is also something that makes turning a whole lot easier. It's called Drift. I personally always drove into walls in the other versions of the game. It makes your car turn sideways and slide, making it easier not to hit walls.
Here's one negative: you race in the dark. It's tough at first, but you get used to it. The cars are really cool, but if you don't customize them, they're really not.
The soundtrack is sweet, with Lil' John & Eastside Boyz:"Get Low", Petey Pablo, Mystikal, Rancid, Nate Dogg, Overseer, and many more. I hadn't heard half the songs, but they're really good.
The city enviornment is amazing, making it feel like you're in a different world. The graphics are amazing, and the people in the game are very lifelike.
The Underground mode is magical. You start out with a pretty crappy car selection, but I recommend getting a cheap car and getting upgrades for it. You choose races from a map and it brings you right to the race.
What I like about this game is the style cars and what they look like. I mean, who would race with a Mclaren F1 like they had in NFS 2? I would keep one of those babies locked up in a garage and polish it every day.
I hope this review has helped, and it is a must-have for fans of The Fast and the Furious series.

Alright children, I'll keep it short and sweet . . . this game is absolutely worth the $50. It is absolutely one of the most solid productions I've seen, slick and stylized, with adrenaline rushes aplenty. On to the review . . .
Gameplay - The most important part of any game, and Underground hits a home run here. You start out with a quick introductory race which you have to win to get started, then you get your choice of one of five cars to enter the Underground with. From there its on to Drifting, Sprint and Circuit races, and the most white-knuckled, heart-pumping event of all, Drag racing. A quick synopsis of each event
- Drifting - Like most of the ricers out there, this is all about show and not really about go. See how long you can skid your car around tracks of various configurations. Score points for longer power slides, hitting "bonus zones", and knowing how to drive (ie not hitting the wall, stupid).
- Circuit/Sprint/Last Man Standing - All are pretty much slight variations on the same theme - get to the finish line first. In Circuit, you compete against three other cars in a lap race. Sprint is a one-time shootout, first one to the finish takes the prize, and Last Man Standing is a modified circuit race in which the last car at the conclusion of each lap is eliminated until there is only one car left.
- Drag - Probably the most exciting mode . . . line up against three other vehicles in a sprint to the finish. Drag is different than the previously mentioned Sprint mode because, as in real life, shifting is crucial - shift too early and you miss your peak power - shift too late and you burn off horsepower and lose speed. Get into fifth or sixth gear, hit the nitrous and go. Besides the other racers, you have traffic to contend with, obstacles to avoid, and in some cases, trains to jump. Be as smooth as possible, don't clip anything, get your shifts down and you'll win.
Graphics - This is where the title of my review comes in to play. Lights reflect off the cars and streets, the environments are stunningly detailed (not that you'll be moving slow enough to notice), the visual effects and sense of speed are just stunning. The streets look beautiful, though strangely they're all wet. The cars are lovingly rendered, from the ridiculously large wings to every layer of ricey vinyl and decals. Watch sparks fly as you rub a guardrail or see smoke spew as your opponent skids through a turn. A gorgeous game.
Control - Fantastic. Good and tight, fight that FF oversteer in your early car, then feel the burn as AWD has you sticking to the track like glue. Upgrades make noticeable differences - the car is much sharper after them.
Sound - Songs? Boooorrrrriiiiiinnnngggg . . . bust out your own tunes, you'll be happier. Sounds? Engines rev high, tires squeal, nitrous injects . . . its all their and beautiful.
Misc - Clean up time. Haven't played online yet, so I can't comment on it, but I'm sure it rocks. No replay is frustrating, but hey, you can't get everything. There are some little odd quirks that annoy me (like asking me three freaking times if I want to save my game after I select "Save Game"), but in all, this is a good, arcade style racer (ie you won't be tuning camber, boost PSI, gears, etc) that should entertain for many, MANY hours.

Not the most realistic game out there but if you died every time you crashed what fun would racing games be? If you like the idea of modifying cars you'll love this game. You can totally customize your vehicle with a unique bodykit, engine tuneups and nitrus plus unusual decals. This game is all about having fun going fast and trying not to run into the ever annoying traffic. With crazy shortcuts on each track which often involve amazing jumps this is a game that will put a smile on your face.

I have always considered Need For Speed as the most brilliant Racing series along with Gran Tursimo , and actually the latest installment in the Hot Pursuit branch was simply amazing , and now the NFS returns to invade the illegal Racing Genre .
Filled with amazing graphics and astonishing cars details , the game deals witht the illegal racing , which is a new approach for the NFS Series , there is a lot of modified cars like the Turbo Charged Toyota Supra and the Mitsubishi Eclipse along with many other cars that will appear in the game , all modified, charged and guranteed to give you the ltimate experience of streets racing .
The upgraded engines means superpower for the racing , so the main point here is not planning to win the race but learning how to control the Vehicle you are driving because appearently any uncontroled move means plugging your vehicle in the nearest wall or car , and don't forget that the game are taking place in the streets , not in an isolated arenas like the previous games , the Developers of this game has recreated the Downtown Hongkong so you can enjoy the thrill of peeding through the various streets of the town , but be aware when you are using the NOS , because as you have seen it in the fats and the furious movies , your vision blurs and you almost can't see anything through the waterfall of colors surrounding you , so only the skilled players will make it to the end point .
NFS:UnderGround is coming with full speed to slice it's way through the PS2 world , and only the skillful players with patience will win the race .
BEST GAME OF THE YEAR

I can't express how much fun this game is. It's so addictive and you will not want to stop playing. I burned out a controller playing this game and it was well worth it. The selection of manufacturers and cars is excellent. Graphics are phenomenal.
If you're thinking about buying this game as a gift or for yourself...STOP THINKING ABOUT IT AND BUY IT NOW. I would pay $100 for this game.
The only bad part is that it can be beaten very fast if you know what you're doing. But it's still a fantastic game.
