Darker than the other versions, with normal street cars and as much fun. I would say it was even more fun because there are factors like trains and trams to dodge during the race. Pure fun.

Racing game fans BEWARE!!

Hey Racing fans, this game is so addictive that if you start playing you may start missing meals. It is a great mixture of the movie "The Fast and the Furious" and the video game "Grand Turismo". Street racing has never been this fun. You can race in one of these type of races: Curcuit, Sprints, Drag, or Draft. Each one calls for a different type of driving. If you find yourself getting fired or lossing a large amount of weight, then you may have gotten hooked.

BUY THIS INSTEAD OF MIDNIGHT CLUB 2

This is my first time playing a Need for Speed Game. I think the reason that I never bought a Need for Speed game was because there was never a chance to enchance your cars looks or the performance of the car. The fact that you have complete control over everything that goes in or on your car is the reason I love this game so much.

Gameplay(10/10): The gameplay is awesome. You can pick a varity of cars ranging from volkswagons, toyota, mitubishi, mazda, honda and many more. Customize your cars with brand named headlights, engines, decals, tires and rims and besicaly anything you can think of that will make your car look HOT. It takes all of 2 minutes to learn how to play the game. The controls are like any other racing game that you may have played before. The story mode consists of 111 races to work your way up to the top as the king of street racing.

Graphics(9/10): Th only thing that is stopping me from giving this a perfect ten id the fact that the graphics aren't that clear. Some of the graphics are fuzzy and a little washed out. But EA still gets the point across because once you hit a certain speed everthing begans to get really blurry. It definitley makes you feel like you are really going 110 mph. Plus the graphics are grade A when it comes to hooking your car up with rims and other accesories such as neon lights and vinyls.

This is the perfect game to get if you enjoyed Gran Turismo 3 and also the Midnight Club series. Even though I do think that this game kills both Midnight Club and MC2. SO if you like to play online and show other people around the world what you are made of and how good of a street racer you are....or if you always wanted to soup up your car with sweet accesories but never had the money then you should go and cop this game. Its worth every penny

Need for Speed: Illogical

I am a complete gearhead, anything automotive is something I just have to have. I got this game because I loved playing NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 which I thought of as redemption after the earlier NFS games that had lousy, okay NO realistic physics what so ever. All those games did have were my favorite cars, namely the Italians.
The thing that really set Hot Pursuit 2 apart was the event tree so that you saw not only the event, you knew what you would unlock and where that would take you overall so you could plan on going through certain events to unlock the cars you wanted to drive and that was awesome. No guess work and I loved it!

I figured that with NFSU they would carry that over, boy was I ever wrong. I thought they would have the Circuit, Drift, Drag and Sprint races all under their own event tree so that you could do one type of racing until you finished it or got bored and then try another. Nope. I also thought that with the ability to essentially build your own car I could use my knowledge and passion for cars to build a really great car. Nope. Instead you can only buy parts that you have unlocked. The game places a huge priority on reputation which you would think you enhance by winning races. WRONG! It is all about how your car looks, what kind of paint are you using, how are your windows tinted and how long can you hang the tail out in a power slide without bothering to win the race? They say that these reputation points unlock new parts, and they do! They unlock VINYLS and STICKERS that go on the side, hood (after you unlock the place the sticker on the Hood option!) and not much else.

The other thing that is a huge turn-off for this game is the AI. Now it is a leap forward in terms of the AI acting like another player. The problem is that when you select your difficulty setting before each race you are not only picking how much traffic but how hard the other cars work to spin you out, push you into oncoming traffic, not on how well the AI drives. In fact the AI will even use the Nitrous boost not to get ahead of you, but will use it to ram into your car and if you try and do this to them, you end up crashing. And just try taking the same racing line the AI takes, you can even be in the same car with the same mods and you just won't make that turn. Trail braking? Ineffective. Brake early and then power out of the turn? AI gets too far ahead and you can't catch them.

Finally the worst part of all. When you finally manage to unlock some new parts to upgrade the perfromance of the car the upgrades are divided up into three different sections: Engine/Exhaust upgrades, Drivetrain and Tires. The next group is: ECU (computer chip), Turbo and Brakes. The final set: Weight reduction, Suspension and Nitrous.
You have no choice in the matter what so ever and it always happens in that order. The best thing to do to a car for performance is to take off the weight, upgrade the suspension and run different tires. So they force you to upgrade your straight line speed, which is next to useless (and in the Drag races if you have something like the Mazda Miata which only has five gears, you hit the Nitrous once in the final gear and you will only blow your engine and lose the race!) and the things that have the biggest impact on the car's performance for the very last.

And oh yeah, that Nissan Skyline GTR-34 V-Spec that everyone loves so much, you don't unlock that until the game is almost done. Just before the end you get the car. So save your money, and your disappointment and just wait for the next Gran Turismo which will come out early in 2004 and then in the fall of 2004 for Street Racing Syndicate which will also have the full damage to cars and cops that will try to arrest you for illegal racing.

Okay, so I was somewhat letdown when I heard that the new NFS was *going underground* as it were. Not nearly as disappointed, however, as I was when I began my attempt to play and enjoy it.

It's hard to get past the fact that it's always nighttime. It's equally hard to allow for the limited trackage. It's harder still to overlook the annoyance of an ever-reflective road surface. It's very difficult to ignore the fact that the AI sticks to you no matter how well or how poorly you drive. But it's next to impossible to forgive a frame rate that slows to complete stops.

Although imbued with many of the above dubious features, I enjoyed Midnight Club II. I guess I just don't enjoy this game. As far as upgrades go, those available in Underground don't do it for me. I don't care anything about dressing up my car; I wanna know what I'm doing for the performance of the car-numerically. You don't get that in NFS:U, just ambiguous meters for acceleration, top speed and handling. Have I been spoiled by GT3? Perhaps. Do I have unreasonably high expectations for GT4? Quite possibly.

Will EA never rekindle the former glory of NFS: Porsche Unleashed? For the PC, not the PlayStation, that is. Now there was a game: Beautiful locales, upgradeable cars, rich graphics, wonderful engine sounds, drivability to spare. No, not even Hot Pursuit 2 came close.

If you're a racing game nut and just can't get this title out of your head, rent it first. I wish I had.

Why buy this if you can buy Burnout 3?

The whole focus of this game is that you drive incredibly fast and customise cars. If anyone who is reading this doesn't know what Burnout 3 is, then let me give you the gist of it. The whole focus is that you drive about 10 -- no 100 -- times faster than this game, and you drive agressively. It doesn't have must customisation, but it's a hell of alot of fun. Raming apponents into walls and having them explode is much more fun than this game. This game decent at first, but then loses its charm. This game is slow compared to Burnout 3, has hideous music than will pierce through your eardrums like a butcher's knife, bad collisions, and is just not fun at all. Buy Burnout 3 if you want an excellent racing experience that you don't even need to like racing to enjoy and experience Burnout 3's goodness. Did I mention its only 20 bucks and there is a sequel coming out in a month called Burnout: Revenge?
