I had originally played this game for PC, and I thought that it was awesome. My friend had downloaded it and gave me a copy of it. I am against downloading usually, unless the people do not deserve my money. So, I brought it home and took it for a test drive. I was pretty much hooked. I decided to purchase a copy of the game, and got it for PS2, so I can save some space on my computer. Anyway, let's talk about the game.

Basically, this game is about you as a driver, trying to make it to the top of illegal street racing. At the beginning of the game, you can chose one of six cars. You think to yourself, 'That's not a lot of cars.' Yeah, but as you prgress through the game, you unlock things such as tracks, parts, and accessories. The most interesting feature in this game is the upgrades you can do. When an upgrade becomes avalible, you can put it into your car to increase your performance. The good thing about this is that you can always go back to your original settings, while being able to keep your upgrades. The upgrades include engines, tires, drivetrain, turbo, etc. As you progress further into the game, you get to unlock better upgrades of these things.

Here are some other things about the game. Usually, graphics on a PS2 game are nothing compared to those of PC, but when I popped in this game, I was quite impressed. The graphics are beautiful, with great detail. I mean, they're still not as good as the PC version, but very close. The enviornments are done really well, and are very cool. The cars look realistic, and, well, are real cars. The streets are given a cool "just rained" affect, but the cars don't drive as if they were on a wet road. Another cool thing is the "blur" effect, which, when you get up to really high speeds, your surroundings start to blur, and somewhat shake, as if the wind from the speed is shaking the camera. I am very suprised that there is really no noticable framerate slowdown in this game.

The sound of the game is also good. The music fits perfectly with the game. The rap songs are usually heard in the main menu, and rock and techno are for the racing, but you can change these settings in the "Options" menu. The controls in the game are very easy and solid, except for me, the turning and such with the analog seems way too sensitive for me. I have yet to play this game online, as I am trying to make a really nice car so I can play with everyone else that has high-performance vehicles.

Pretty much everyone has compared this game to Midnight Club II, so I guess I will too. Need for Speed Underground is just like taking Midnight Club II, and improving upon it greatly in every way. If you like Midnight Club II, or debating between these two games, you'll like this one. When I say that this is among the best, I mean to say that this is one of the best games of its kind to made as of today. Most racing fans will be satisfied with this game, until the release of Gran Turismo 4.

Wow, never had so much fun

I have played this game and with getting into the underground, there is a whole lot of things to do. Customizing your car and racing all the different areas is the best. I have played many qames and this one really comes in at Number 1.

In this game it takes racing to a new level. u get 2 pick ur car and custimize it however u please. it has amazing graphics. u can start out with the Mazda Miata, Peogut 206, Dodge Neon, Honda Civic, or the Volkswagon Gulf. The 206 is the worst looking car. i started out with the civic. It is a great beginner car. u can pick easy, medium,or hard for each race. u win points with every first place win. then u can take the points and customize ur car.

Need for Speed is a truely enjoyable game. The graphics are spectacular. The customizations are very enjoyable. The ai race me like it's a real race. It has enjoyable drag racing consisting of gear shifts and hitting the nitrous button. The circuit mode keeps you running for the top spot. The sprint mode is an all or nothing shootout for the win. Knockout keeps you on your feet for 3 laps as each car is eliminated 1 by 1 each lap until we have a winner. Drift is a great mode even though "I" can't get the hang of it. My brother and I spent countless hours racing each other, keeping score to see who the best is. I love the online play! It truely ranks you in the world against PS2 and PC gamers! I love this game. Having no cops is a great idea Plus they are a pain you can create a great idea when you can slow and hit the Nitrous but they would probably bust you. In someone's review here they say the ai works to wreck you That is A MYTH. A lot people played it and only 1 said this.

This game is off the hook. I love the drift races. There are only too things I didn't like. The nos what weak. They should of made it like Midnight club 2 that nos was more real. And the drag race they should Made like where you could race with automatic and in stick. Other than that I Loved the game. The game paly was good they just need more tracks. I like fixing up the cars and I can't wait for Need for Speed underground 2 to come out

a welcome additon to the NFS family

this game, while unbelievely frusterating, will hook you faster than anything you've ever played. If your into racing and love the whole tuner idea, there could never be a better combo. the custimazation options are insane and will have you building cars jus to look at em. this game also supports online via the network apapter so you can show your baby off in all its glory. By far the most exhilarating feeling in the game is the drag mode. there really is no feeling quite like running down a straight away, cars whizzing by your windows at 200 mph, screen shaking uncontrollably, then hitting the NOS and leaving the rest of the chumps that thought they could race in the dust! the only small frustration is the repetative pattern in traffic and a small amount of bad level design (i.e. getting caught on a small lip while using the wall for leverage.) O and by the way if you read that review about the engine blowing up over and over, its because they didnt know how to shift in drag mode! read the instructions next time before dumping on a great gaming expierience please!!!

Do You Have The Need For Speed?

Need For Speed: Underground is one of the best installments in the series. Underground features extensive levels, character models, and of course, cars to get you into the game. After five minutes of playing you will be in awe. With car customizing this game is like a fantasy "The Fast And The Furious". You have to use your driving skills to win the races and tournaments and new modes including "Drag" and Japanese "Drift", to make your way to the top in this game. The only thing that would make this better is extensive levels where you can travel as you wish like in NFS: Hot Pursuit 2.
