God of War is just unbeleivable. Playing the game is like playing devil may cry for the first time, it's a truly incredible experience. If you have a ps2 then buy this game immediatly. This game is an instant classic.

I think this will easily be one of the best games of the year. The play is smoothe and the graphics are great, the cut scenes are killer. I'm replaying it now in God mode, loads of fun.

I thought that this game would be awesome because everyone has been saying it is great. But there is too much button mashing
why does a boss level have to involve stressing out the muscles in your thumbs? Why can't a boss level just rely on your fighting skills? If you are a fan of games like Tekken or Mortal Kombat, this is a game for you
if not
just rent it
SIMPLY THE BEST!

God of War is overall a very well done game. It is evident that Sony has put alot of work into the graphics, narrating and story line making this game pure entertainment.
Not only is the game rich, the extra features are really great as well. Some of these features include character graveyard, deleted levels, the making of God of War and much more.
The story line behind this game is very interesting and educational for those who are fans of Greek Mythology. The game begins with an introduction to the main character Kratos, the leader of the Spartan army, who is a loyal servant to the Gods. When Athens is attacked by Ares, the God of War, Athena asks Kratos to murder Ares to protect her City. Kratos accepts this challenge in return for the suffering of his past and the game begins.
The ending is very well done .... I don't want to spoil it for you it is fair to say that I highly recommend it.
Great Game

One of my favorites (Beyond Good And Evil is my all time best).
Lot of fun, great graphics and yes, it is not for the kiddies (lots of blood, gore and sex). One tip I got from another reviewer, the big Hydra (after you have trapped the lesser heads). You have to tap (not mash) the "O"Button very very quickly to develop enough power to bash Hydra head into the mast. The "O prompt at the bottom left indicates repeatedly pressing "O" but the rate implied by the prompt is way too slow. You will know when you are tapping "O" fast enough when the head does dammage to the mast. You need 3 effective head slams to break the mast.
Fun fighter but lousy at everything else

While I enjoyed the game tremendously, it works best when it sticks to what it does well - combat.
The puzzles are easy, but the platforming is ridiculously difficult at points when the game has you walking across balancing beams and such, and the controls are lacking. The game gets tedious and the automatic difficulty drop question keeps coming up when the reason for repeatedly dying is a puzzle and not an enemy, gets exceedingly annoying. The game has some sloppy programming.
But when it sticks to combat, and huge, rolling boss fights, the game is incredibly fun. Gorgeous graphics and fluid combat control. Powerups are also varied enough to keep it from being too linear.
The story itself is epic but just brutal and feels like it's brutal for the sake of brutality. But if you don't already have violent fantasies, you'll probably be fine. Just don't let your prepubescent kid get his hands on this.
Very good game, but short

It's one of the best PS2 games, have a unique style of playing and an innovative ideas, with alot of puzzles which makes it very intersting. But on the other side, it's short, I hope it was a little bit longer. In general it worth buying.
can't wait for the third one
