Excellent Graphics and content.
Far superior to the camera angle mishap that was Rygar.
Difficulty level is an excellent feature.
Start again where you die another excellent feature for a platformer.
The only downer was that it took 15 hours to beat.
You hit the square button a lot.

Every hour I played this game I get more and more bored with it. It's a well-produced game, but it's not very difficult, so you end up paying half-attention to what's going on on the screen while just pounding on that square button. I only got a few hours into the game, so I can't speak for the later sections of it, but a few hours is more than enough of a fair shot.
If the game kept you on your toes during basic combat, it would probably be a five star game for me. As it stands, though, this game just isn't very fun to play for me.
It is just like Devil may Cry and Lament of Innocence, just with inaccurate mythology, boring gameplay, and lame acting

I will bet you that 70 percent of the people seeing this review does not like me for giving such a game a low score, but I really do not care, as most of the fanboys of this game talk "OMG i luv this game!!!! RXXER!!!". This game is nothing but an overhyped hunk of graphics, and while it DID provide fun entertainment for the first few stages of gameplay, boy did it get boring later on. anyway....
GRAPHICS 9/10
The category to be believed the least important of them all, but still important. The graphics are quite nice here, and I especially love how Kratos tears through the enemies, or knocks over the random minotaur and stabs him in the face. The biggest knockoff I have against the graphics is that some of the characters look a little.....stupid. Thankfully, they do not live very long for me to fret about them much.
MUSIC 6.5/10
I found the music to be rather annoying, and every once in a while, when the music got the point of being called "retarded", I muted the Television and put in a soundtrack of my own. A few of the tracks caught my attention every now and then, but they are nothing special for me to remember.
SOUND 9/10
Damn near perfect sound. Every sound is on time, every monster has some kind of screech, roar, or other battle cry, and everything sounds normal
STORY 3/10
Man, what a lame story. You think just because they try and make something up with mythology that it will be good? all I can say is Helllll no. All i can say is that it really drags on and on throughout the game, making the game eventually seem like a bunch of random missions than actually having Kratos GO somewhere. Sure, you have to receive Pandora's box, but that takes a good chunk disk to get, making you go through an annoying amount of dungeons and fighting before you actually have something occur in the game. Other than that, i found a few bits and pieces of the game to become interesting, such as Kratos' past life.
GAMEPLAY 5/10
My first impression of the gameplay in this game was very good. If you asked me what I thought about it after beating the first boss, I would have said "That makes a good 8/10 right there, and it can only improve!". It turns out I would have been quite wrong. You see, the first stage was a blast (all except that box moving part, that was completely lame), and the boss there was exceptionally fun. As time went on, I found it to be beyond repetitive. I found myself continually just using the same very few combo attacks and slaughtering through the easy enemies. Finally, near the end of the game, I was granted a new weapon, and none of that magical crap they offered in the game. I was excited, as the weapon was a huge hulking sword, But after taking down quite a bit of enemies, I came to realize sadly that the sword had even less combo attacks than the default blades.
The gameplay offers the duel chain blades throughout the game, and the more you use the Devil-May-Cry-ripped-off red orbs to power up your weapons, you will learn two-four new combos. as you advance through the game, you will also get abilities and magic that the gods give you, four in total. You get a skill of medusa, being able to turn your enemies to stone just like a gorgon, skill from Poseidon, electrocuting(?? sorry if I am wrong) all of your enemies around you, skill from Zeus, giving you the ability to hurl little pansy bolts of lightning at your foes, and lastly, the gift from Hades (who looks like a complete [...] by the way, why did they make him look like a bloody monster??), allowing you to control spirits as you slaughter your already underpowered enemies. You may also use the red orbs to power these up for moves and power.
To wrap this game up in it's well deserved shabby over-rated package, I suggest renting it, as I did beat it in one twenty four hour period, and it really did not take me that long to complete. It provides, entertainment, but I honestly do not ever feel like playing the game again.
Difficulty (on normal mode)- 4/10
Final Boss Difficulty (normal mode)- 5/10
Final Boss music- 4/10
Ending- 2/10
Clash of the Titans Mayhem -- BUT NOT FOR KIDS!

This game is awesome! But it is NOT for children! The box isn't kidding -- There are nudity scenes and interactive sexual situations in this game. For instance, early on in the game, you "have sex" with two bare breasted maidens in a bed to get a high experience reward. Although the camera moves so you don't see the actual act, you do hear it. There are also several bare breasted monsters. I repeat -- Do not buy this game for someone under 18.
With that being said, this is a great action game with lots of slashing and mayhem. The graphics are awesome and you can get through the game even with a basic understanding of the controls. The moves you can do are awesome -- and you do them right away. There is no waiting in this game for the action. The first scene is slashing, slashing and more slashing.
If you love ancient Greek myth, then you will definitely love this game.
Simply Great

Well, after all the hype I decided to go ahead and pick up a copy of God of War. The visuals are stunning, but the gameplay is your basic hack'n'slash with a few mini-games (match the button X,O, etc.) on some monsters. Monsters are pretty much all the same all throughout each level with the introduction of new ones after each level. The battles get redundant. However, there is always something pretty to look at while you're hacking away. The game also features a few puzzles here and there - all pretty straightforward and easily solved. Don't search for any challenge here, the game is aimed at teenagers and frat kids.
All of that I can deal with, if the game had an engaging story. Unfortunately it doesn't. The cutscenes are very artistic and fun to watch, but you really don't feel for Kratos as a hero (anti-hero). And before you know it the game is over - exceedingly short. You can beat it in one afternoon which leaves the game pretty empty and average.
Ultimately - if you're seeking an immersive adventure with some action in it I suggest you purchase a copy of Shadow of the Colossus. It surpasses God of War with flying colors in terms of gameplay and storytelling, and while the graphics are not of as high caliber, the style and execution of them provide a much more immersive environment - making you think they're better.
God of War - could have been better

One of the other reviewers stated, "you hit the square button a lot". I tend to agree, but there is some strategy. One thing is, even on the higher settings, I never really feel threatened by the bosses: Kratos can take a beating, and you can abuse the block button frequently. The final fight with Ares is interesting (probably the best part). The plot is rather mediocre...Kratos calls upon Ares for help, then complains about the aid. What did he expect? It is ARES (God of bloodlust), not ATHENA! Wake up, Kratos!
I also do not like the whole 21st century "bald and tatted tough guy" hollywood deal. If he had been done more "historic" looking, that would have been much better. The end where he faces Ares reminds me of the character from the 90's movie "Powder" crying to one of the town tough guys. Ares looks and speaks great, however, and generally acts like a cruel war deity.
Decent game, but not for hard core action gamers (who will become bored after powering up and mastering blocking cheese).

The only fun part in this game is fighting the minotaur. The rest is so repetitive and boring after awhile and I feel like I was lied to. Dave Jaffe promised you wouldn't get stuck in combos and what happens a ton that makes this game very frustrating is sticking in combos.
Fun but Waaaaay too violent

"God of War" has finally pushed the envelope a little too far and has created a game that is completely unsuitable for children. While the game is very fun, and challenging, it has included too much gratutious violence and even (gasp) nudity for my tastes.
While I don't exect every game to be watered down to the level of "Kingdom Hearts" (a game that has similar game play), I also don't expect to see slow motion decapitations. Honestly, the added violence adds nothing to the game play - so why is it included?
Besides this flaw- I found the game to be both fun and challenging. Many of the battles take a fair amount of thought and skill before you can get through them. I also enjoyed the mythologhy that is included - a kind of "Clash of the Titans" turned into a video game.
In short - Buy at your own risk - if you are in any way squeemish you may want to find another game.
WHAT IS ALL THE HYPE???

This game is just not that great. You flail around. GTA (any of the series), or Hitman (same), or most sports games, blow this out of the water. Don't waste your time with this primitive game.
