When I first played the demo, I thought it was a fantastic action/adventure game but later I changed my mind completely.

PROS:

- Graphics, environments are gorgeous. One of the best looking games on any current-gen consoles.
- Sound and music are good.
- Story is OK.
- Controls are very responsive.

CONS:

- Although Kratos has many attacks but most of them are uninteresting and useless. As a result, the combat gets repetitive and boring quickly.

- Enemies are not diverse. Each level should have different set of enemies. I don't like to fight undead warriors and Minotaurs a dozen times throughout the game.

- Only TWO weapons: the default weapon called Blades of Chaos, and later in the game, Kratos got another one: Blade of Artemis, this is a big sword and rather powerful but it's slow. You can swith between 2 weapons by pressing L1 and R1 simultaneously but you cannot swith during a combo. (Devil May Cry 3's Dante can switch his melee weapons or guns with just the touch of a SINGLE button.)

- Kratos cannot use magic on the go.

- Only THREE BOSSES in the whole game! It should have 8-10 bosses.

- Platforming in last levels becomes extremely frustrating and it was really a nightmare to me. I played just to finish it and never want to play it again.

I don't understand why so many people praised GoW (Game Informer gave it a 10. This was ridiculous because it's far from perfect); maybe they enjoy its repetitive combat and incredibly frustrating platforming. If you like action/adventure games but hate platforming, then you should avoid GoW and I recommend Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition and Ninja Gaiden Black if you own both PS2 and Xbox.

Beware if you don't have the newer consoles

I purchased God of war for 53 dollars and change. I have 4 PS2's and it didn't load on any of them. it doesn't even try to load! I'm so angry right now. I wanted to play it especially since I enjoy Greek mythology. My consoles are the original PS2's, ( not the newer Thin ones ) and I think I really Bites that Sony would have us buy all new consoles to play these newer games. The store has a no refund on electronics policy. Iexchanged it twice, thinking a bad game CD. But no refund. Yea! I'm Livid !
I gave it 1 stare cuz it demands a star. Otherwise, This game is a FLOP!

Won't Load On First -Generation PS2s!!

I also was unable to get God of War to load on a first-generation PS2. I have one of the original PS2s bought on the first day of release. I've gone back and exchanged the disc twice but the game refuses to load on this PS2. My machine is still loading all my other recent titles (e.g., Champions: Return to Arms; X-Men Legends), so I do believe it's a coding/manufacturing bug. Don't know yet if I'll upgrade my PS2 just to play this title.

BEWARE god of war.......!

I received an early demo copy of this game, and loved it. Couldn`t wait to get my hands on it.Three exchanged copies later, i`m left with a fifty dollar coaster. It seems the game won`t load in first gen ps2`s, so unless your willng to buy a new system just to play this game, STAY AWAY until sony either de-bugs the disk or is willing to refund your money(like that is going to happen).

Warning to Parents. Nudity, Sex and Gore in this Game!!! If you don't let your kids watch R-rated movies and play games like grandtheft auto don't buy this game.

up until the hades stuff it was great

This is a great game that really shouldn't have the crappy last part it does. I know i should give it a higher rating but the last part is so completley horrid i think gamers should be warned. If you made it to the hades path you know what i mean. After 4 pointless hours of trying to climb up the spiked walls i gave up and sold this game back to my local game shop. Up until that point the game was solid, engaging, and fun. At the hades path that all stops. This part of the game is not fun, and becomes the least enjoyable game i have ever played on PS2. It is so utterly poor that i can only give this game a 1. If you can stand to play through the BS of this level more power to you. I can't, i won't, and doubt i will ever pick up another title from this studio (it's that bad). I hear there is a part 2 coming out soon, i won't waste my money.

good until they ran out of ideas!!!

It's ok until you get to the part where you have to walk through thin planks while avoiding traps. Trust me, that part is so frustrating that it made me hate this game so much!!! Stupid game designers who come up with stupid ideas like this should be fired!!! Anyway, I got past that but then came the final battle. I'd been playing in normal mode but then I has to switch to easy mode just to beat the final boss! Well that was fine, or so I thought. To unlock the bonuses, you have to beat God mode!!! well, by god mode they literally meant you have to be a god to beat it. yes, god because only a god can beat that ridiculously impossible difficulty level! In other words, you can forget about the "unlockables" because you won't be able to unlock them. zero replay value!!!

Excellent Graphics and content.
Far superior to the camera angle mishap that was Rygar.
Difficulty level is an excellent feature.
Start again where you die another excellent feature for a platformer.
The only downer was that it took 15 hours to beat.

Can't get past this part

Hello, this game was good and all for the first 1 hour but then I came against the big Hydra, I kept on pressing O button but the pole couldn't get damaged, I kept trying and trying, just can't do it. The online guides did not help. I think this is just unacceptable, I give it 1 star.

overrated and frustrating game

it began ok but quickly devolved into a cra@ game. thankfully i rented on a gamepass and can trade this one in for something else because i can't believe how highly this game is rated, and how cra@@y this game really is. once you die falling off of stuff or swimming then the thing squishes you into the wall 5000000000 times you will understand what i am saying. this game blows.
