Not as good as the Xbox version

I got a chance to play both the PS2 "The Two Towers" and the Xbox "Fellowship of the Ring" at E3 this year. The two towers is pretty much straight-up sword fighting from what I can tell. It doesn't seem to have the breadth and scope of the more story-based Xbox game.
The graphics are beautiful, yes, but the combat in the game seemed a little too chaotic (maybe it was just the level they were showing at E3) and the controls just a little bit sluggish.
In the Xbox game, there is more story and more sense of the true beauty of Middle Earth. I guess it comes down to this: The Two Towers is a straight-forward action game, whereas the Fellowship of the Ring on Xbox is more action/adventure.

Why does [...] seem so far away? I wish that day was yesterday because then I would have this game, and I would be playing it right now. This looks like one of the best games ever. The graphics look amazing, it is baset on an extremly good book, and the game play looks even more fun! You get to chose between Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli in the game which are the stories action heroes. They each have their own abilities to learn and use, too. The game starts at weathertop, travels to Balin's Tomb, and then reaches a climax at Helms Deep. It looks to be a great game, just like the book and movies are!
I LUV LOTR!

I am a Lord of the Rings enthusiast, ...(date today, 9/12. I luv legolas!) and the first time I saw it, I thought: this move would make a great game! well, from all the reviews, It's lived up to that. I for one will probably play as legolas, since he can fire arrows about two or three times a second, but with this game, you can't win by pushing the same buttons repeatedly. You need to do combos of hits and different combinations, or the enemy will catch on to what you're doing. ... The game developers said that themselves. Just don't turn your back on the screen, and you'll be fine. :D
A good rental

This game wasn't too bad while it lasted. I was able to finish the game in one day. To be fair, you are able to choose from three different characters; Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli, which makes the game a little longer because you can replay the game with a different character, but the game play is so similar no matter which character you pick, so once you finish the game with one character you really don't have the overwhelming desire to finish it with the others. EA did try to make the game more interesting with the ability to "buy" special power moves by earning experience points, but like I said the three characters are so similar that it's almost not worth it to play all three.
What also added to the short game play was they had way too many cut scenes from the movie, which most likely took up a lot of valueable disc space. There are other ways to make the player feel like they are "living" the movie. For example, they could have had short in game dialogues between key characters in the movie to remind viewers what scene they are playing. Many LOTR fans have the movie memorized so there's no need to waste so much disc space replaying the movie. Also, the way they did it was more like a quick outline of the movie, which in my opinion actually ruined the memory of the movie for me.
Another problem with too many cut scenes was that it greatly interrupted the game play flow. I would play for a few minutes and then watch a lengthy cut scene, and play for a few minutes and then watch a lenghty cut scene, etc, etc. There wasn't enough continuous game play to make me feel like I was in the game or movie. The game basically didn't know whether it should have been a DVD movie or a game because it didn't do both well.
If you are a die hard fan of LOTR you will probably want to buy the game for that sake, but for the rest of us you should rent it first. You'll most likely finish the game within the rental period.
Nasty gameses. Blowses and [stinkses] it does.

Am I the only one in the world who thought that this game blowed? (blew? whatever). I was expecting something a little more than a straight fighting game, which is what this is. You fight and fight and fight and fight and fight and fight. No plot. No development. Large fight scenes are dark and confusing. Worth a rent, but I was not impressed.

Well you play as Aragorn Gimli or Leogolas in this game that has both of the Fellowship of the Rings and the Two Towers parts in it. The graphics look stunning and so far so good.

After reading previous reviews I don't think anyone over 12 who is not a LOTR geek has reviewed this game. So here's my two cents. This was a great idea. The guy at the game store said it's a lot like DYNASTY WARRIORS. NOT!!! Not even close. While it's pretty to look at and has great cuts from the movie, it's basically a pretty lame fighting game. Terribly sluggish control bogs down any furious action mashing game play. Control is very unresponsive for my taste. Scoring any kind of combo is trial and error and unfair. It all about timing. I felt like I was playing KENGO. I want blazing speed in my HACK AND SLASH BATTLE GAMES. Timed moves are for Wrestling Games.(SIGH) The levels are pretty shallow and the camera is FIXED. FIXED FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!! HEY!! WHERE DID MY GUY GO? Bad idea. Onimusha does this so much better. THE TWO TOWERS is beautiful to look at, but as any serious gamer knows, game play is everything. And THE TWO TOWERS is just not that fun. Once again someone has made a mediocre game to cash in on a hot frachise. Too bad.
If you're looking for a game that puts you into the heart of an hour long battle buy DYNASTY WARRIORS 2 or 3. It's far superior. And way more fun. Or if you don't mind fixed camera action go for Onimusha 1 or 2. Avoid THE TWO TOWERS. It's short and disappointing.
What does DURABILITY mean in the Rating? Replay value? We're reviewing video games here, people, not TONKA TOYS.
EDUCATIONAL? Yeah, I learned what a sore thumb feels like.
Rated M: for Mediocre.
LATE!!!

In one word, this game is awsome. Great graphics, the academy award soundtrack from the movie is in this, controls really good, the movie-geme footage is perfect and you will have a lot of fun playing. My only complaints are the lack of multplayer play, frustrating at places, and almost busting my left analog stick on my controller.
i love it but.....

This game is awsome! It is sooo fun, you think it is the movie! After the first two levels you get to pick from Aaragorn, the ranger, Gimli, the dwarf, or Legolas, the elf. You get exp points every time you kill something to buy moves and weapons. After you beat it you get secret codes and a secret character, wich you have to find out who it is. It is even fun after you beat it with each character!(going through all of the levels again) I give this game 5 out of 5 stars.
