i love this game just as much as the movies. i cant wait for the third one of both the game and the movie. the special effects in both are amazing. the fact that the real actors are voicing it is awsome. this game is great. oh and to the kid who beat it in one weekend - how many cheats did you use? but nvmd that.
you should get the game it is the best ever! i know people like vice city but this is better - it's kinda hard though - my friend who is a video game wiz couldnt even beat the Watcher while i beat it in 20 minutes. but thats just me - it starts off hard then gets easier and then harder. great way to make it b/c they obviously did it on purpose. not one dull moment
An excellent movie promotion, a poor game

I read the wonderful reviews. I loved the movie and the book. I bought the game. I traded the game in.
I then read the reviews again, and I still don't understand what people see in this game. Maybe it's just a love of J.R.R Tolkein's characters. Here's what I got out of the game: You see a clip from the movie, then you act out a short battle sequence. You repeat this again and again.
There is no depth!
Maybe I am just too concerned with gameplay - the graphics are excellent and the storyline (following the movie) is also excellent. Here's my problem: If I wanted to watch the movie, I'd watch the movie, ...
Everyone seems to like this game, so you might too, but I still don't get it.
good but not great

first of all this is a great game if you like killing orcs and goblins, good grapics, and scences from the Lord of the Rings movie. If you like long levels, and more to levels than just killing creatures this is not your game. You can choose to play as Aragorn, Legolas, or Gimli, and Isildur (in the first level). you can buy upgrades for the characters, but the game play is bad. The good grapices hardly make up for the short levels, and many cut scenes. You could probly beat this game in a few days. Over all this game deserves 3 stars
one of the greatest ea games

This game hits the target dead on . The graphics are excellent, the controls are great, the storyline is just like the movies. The way the bow shoots and the sword slashes is so realistic. Then finally there is the great sound and excellent music. This is one of EA's Greats.
Awsome!

This game just gives you the felling that you're in a real war! The combos are great and not frustratingly hard to pull off, you have three plyable characters (four when you unlock him), and the graphics are sweet too. You will truely have fun with this game. The one thing I didn't like was it only took about two days (Playing off and on) to beat it. But you should try it out!
Really, Really, Really good, but not perfect.

Video games based on movies have always suffered, "The Curse". The curse that plauges movie tie in games that makes them awful to anyone but the most devoted fans. Seeing the pictures of this game early in development, if finially seemed that it would break that curse. Did it? Well, yes, but just barley.
The Two towers starts off very well, using the prolouge footage from the first movie to tell the story of the ring. When we get to the battle of Mount Doom, you take on the role of Isildiur fighting orcs, and trying to stay alive. This scene does a good job of introducing the player to the concepts of gameplay, such as fierce attack, and the vital parry move. After that, you play as Aragorn on Weathertop, wielding off the Ringwraiths and protecting Frodo. Here, you must learn the Parry move, which will save you... many times over. Then the game goes into full swing, and the action begins.
The Gameplay for the Two Towers is pure hack-n-slash. you go through a linear path, hacking up enimies, and...well...uh... hacking up more enimies! After the level is over, you are given points that you can spend to purchuse new skills and combos, along with other things such as more health, and better bows and arrows. The game does very well in this section.
The graphics and sound are easily the high point of the game. The visuals are top notch, and the charachters are very detailed. They look exactly like thier movie counterparts (Except for Gimli during the FMV scenes). They also sound like thier movie counterparts because they are voiced by the real actors. Every actor (Except for Christopher Lee) did voice work for thier digital selves, and it adds a really big bounous that lends an air of authenticity to the game. Another big bonous is the cool factor that comes in when re-playing the scenes from the movies, such as Balins tomb, Aragorn vs. Lurtz (Or, you can do Legolas vs. Lurtz, or Gimli vs. Lurtz, or Secret charachter vs. Lurtz) and of course, Helms deep.
Unfortunitly, the two towers did not escape "The Curse" entirely. My biggest gripe with the game is the very thing that makes it a brawler,The combos. Combos are a string of moves strung togethor to kill enimies fast, and get more experience points. For example, to do Isildiurs/Balins/Elronds swift terror, you would rapidly tap, X,X, triangle to do a damaging attack that would good damage. However, as the game goes on, the game, in a sense, forces you to use combos to meerly survive. When you reach Helms deep, you have to use every combo in your arsenal to move on, and frankly, its a pain...to memorize all these combos (On a side note, it is possible to finsih the game with a minimal amount of combos, its just very very hard). Also, some of them dont work very well, if at all. One attack has you strike your enemy, then charge forward to knock him down, and then finish him off. 3/4 of the time, I rush forward and stab my blades into the ground, while my intended victim slashes me to the ground. If you get hit while you are in the midst of a combo, it ruins it and you have to start over.
Some of the later levels are a pain ...to get through. The last last level in the game is really hard, but conquerable. The trick is to shoot ALL the archers before resuming fighitng.
Other little niggies. Where are the other hobbits? Frodo is the only hobbit to appear in the game, so Sam, Merry, and Pippin are completly absent, aside from Merry and Pippin in a movie scene. All the charachters seem to move a little too fast, and some voice work of Gandalf seems a bit...off.
But I dont want to paint an excessivly poor picture of this game. Its a blast to play, and a lot of fun. The DVD style extras are very cool, such as the actors talking about the game (John-rhies-Davies (Gimli) is probobly the neatest one). There is also a secret charachter to unlock (Who is pretty cool). And the cheat codes are nice. Probobly my favorite feature is (WARNING: GO NO FURTHER IF YOU WANT A FUNNY SUPRISE REVEALED) the mini enemy cheat code. Whenever I feel sad or depressed, turning on this code shrinks all the eniemes to absoloutly tiny size, and brightens my day. Its absoloutly hilarious to see goblins that are 12 inches tall, Uruk-Hi two feet tall, Wargs the size of Chiwalwas, trolls, who are absoloutly gut bustingly funny, and funniest of all, the ringwraiths! And wait untill you see Lurtz boss battle! (END SPOILER).
Overall, this game is great for Lord of the rings fans, but If you hate stringing togethor combos like I do, I recommend renting it first.
The good:
Superb graphics and sound
fun gameplay
neat levels
cool extras
a certian hilarious cheat code
The not so good:
People who do not like stringing togethor combos will not like this game so much
sometimes a bit too hard
charachters move a little too fast
Lurtz appears to give you "The finger" in a cut scene
WOW THIS IS THE 2 BEST

When I first got this game I was concerned Gimli looks as If his beard Is glued to him legolas looks more like haldir and aragorn looks like a cross between aragorn and well..........aragorn. But the game is better than return of the king. At least th uruk-hai have a lot of strength and the orcs look At least strong. Return of the king I know you get to play as more characters but the game is so DARN easy the orcs dont do that much damage. Legolas is the fast one Gimli is battle type and Aragorn is micschure of both. If you are bored with no game drop what you are doing and get this now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Covering with dust right now :)

I'm not a fan of the Lord of The Rings movies, and I still don't know why, I accidentally have this game cause the graphics and the fighting system was looking cool. But all of it fails into a disappointment.
When you put the CD you are encouraged to watch a video clip from the movie, you CANT SKIP the cut-scenes in this games and they have a long length. You see more of the REAL MOVIE CLIPS and less of 3D Cut scenes, which means that was a lacked effort of the producers of the game.
First there was this tutorial in this game that didn't help a lot. When you fight WITH ANY CHARACTERS you get knocked down VERY easily and is just a matter of second until your character is dead then again you have to watch the cut scenes without being able to skip it and start the entire level again.
Other than that all the characters are different, but the game play issues are still there... there is also a combo system where you can "purchase" different attacks depending on the experiences you got in the stage/level. The game is cheap and very linear; no turning back, just go straight forward and sometimes the static cameras won't help because the game usually overwhelms you with enemies (Orcs and orcs and..... zzzzz). The game is still good looking sometimes and is not special compared to other games that i have played.
Buy or rent? Rent it. Don't think that because you are a fan of the movies you will like this game.
