Great Fun = worthy purchase

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 5 / 9

Even through all the negative comments (short, only 1 player, linear, etc.),this game is still worth it. The arcade, 80's, button-mashing style is too addictive. Playing as Arargorn, Legolas, and Gimli offer each his unique style. Secret character and levels add to the replay value. Beating all levels with all characters on Hard difficulty will take longer than you think. It also has nice "making of the game" DVD bonus footage.

The hidden treasure of the game is the SOUND! Hook up the PS2 to the surround system, and crank it. When you're surrounded by 20-30 orcs and Uruk-hai and the LOTR soundtrack is thumping, you feel like you're in the movie.

Bottom line, if you enjoyed the movies and like quick action games. This is worth the purchase.

this is so good!

This game is awsome because you get to play as the cool guys. You can play as Aragorn he is a ranger,a strong man skilled in the use of many weapons, including swords, and trained to survive in every situation. He is also Aratorn's son and hier to Isildur's throne, the rightful king of Gondor,Legolas he is a noble Eleven prince, deadly accurate with his Eleven bow and knowledgeable in wilderness lore,or as Gimli he is a stubborn dwarf altough he is short he is the strongest of all three, there's also a secret character which is Isildur. It also has awsom graphics it also has scenes from the movie, the soundtrack from The Fellowship, and intreviews with the stars. There are levels from The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers there are 12 levels in all plus the secret mission.I also like how they put the cutscene with the game and that suddenly some of the cutscenes turn to the game. Don't think about buying the game just buy it its worth it.

The Most Overrated Game of All Time

First off, I'll agree with everyone that the graphics are spectacular, and the movie-to-cg transitions are seamless and stunning. However, graphic zing does not (and never will) a good game make. And the vast majority of reviews I have read (in magazines and online, and here on amazon.com) seem to be focused solely on the astounding animation and voice-work in "The Two Towers." Did anyone play past level 3 before reviewing the game? Because I thought the game was great for the first 3 levels as well. But after that, things quickly degenerate into a repetetive button-mashing muddle. The scenery changes, but the action does not. Oh, you do indeed get to kick ladders over every once in awhile, but then its right back to hitting those buttons as quickly as possible while each level goes on and on and on and on and on. Yes, the book and movie both make it very clear how outnumbered the humans were at Helm's Deep, but that is no reason for each Helm's Deep level to continue on for 30+ minutes with nary a change of scenery. Hint to EA for "The Return of the King": if I can stand in front of a door and kill orcs and Uruk-Hai for 5 minutes, I can do it for 30! This game is not difficult, just mind-numbing (in the worst sense of that term). Rent this game, because the thrill of seeing the beautiful graphics wears out long (long) before the end is in sight.

"The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" based directly on the novel is far superior to this game.

FOUR HOURS LONG - RENT do not buy

I bought this game and four hours later after beating it with ALL player characters returned it and bought Fellowship of the Ring.

TT is a very good game, perhaps one of the best looking games on the PS2. The environments are rich and look like the movie.

The story flow is weird to say the least. It bounces back and forth between movie and game.

The character models are ok. The enemies are terrific but the player characters are horrible especially Gimli.

Overall, a good game but WAY TOO SHORT/ I finished it in 4 hours. Thats about 10 bucks an hour. So I took it back and bought Fellowship of the Ring which seems to be much bigger.

Rent this game. Finish it. Dont waste your money on purchasing it.

Must be skilled with sword and bow to view this file! Are u?

LOTR2 is probably the best game to present realistic sword fighting. Unlike other games that try to allude people with knight chivalry, lotr2 allows the player to defeat their opponents with sword combos, accurate arrows, parries, and awesome designer clothing. I mean, where did Aragorn get that chainmail. So if your looking for a game with great control, superb graphics, semi-intelligent AI, and awesome designer clothing, than LOTR2 is the game for YOU.

This is a wonderful game. The gameplay is fantastic because you get to play as Aragorn, Legolas, or Gimli and fight through hundreds of Orcs. The graphics are great. The enviroments were done fantasticly. The only problem with the graphics is Gimli's face. It looks like a tree trunk with a face drawn on it but it's no big deal. Basically if you liked the book and you liked the movie you'll like the game. It's worth every penny.

overrated

When i rented this game i thought it was gonna be great. It turned out ok. It's overrated. First thing, when you are in a huge battle it gets very frustrating b/c your team mates never help out. Either you end up dying very quickly or the bad guys get through to the people that you are trying to protect. Plus there are a lot of bad guys so when you go after one you get knocked down and you are always on the ground if you don't run away. This game is pretty fun, but they show too much of the movie which takes too long. This game has cool graphics, but the camera angles suck. If i were you i would rent it first b/c a lot of people like this game, but i found it frustrating.

The best LOTR game yet!

Hey. I just got done with the level Helm's Deep(Third Part). For those of you who don't have a clue about what I just said, Helm's Deep is the last three levels of the game. ANYways, to give you an easy review, I'll start from the beginning. You start of at Mordor as Isildor. It's kind of like a traing level where you fight a few Orcs. When you done with the level a cutseen shows. You go into the mountain of Mordor and decide not to throw the ring into the place where it was forged. After that you go to many other places like Weathertop, Moria, Amon Hen, Rohan, ect. After the levels of Mordor and Weathertop, before each level, you can choose to be Aragorn, Legolas, or Gimli. You fight a great number of Orcs, Goblins, Uri-Kai, and bosses like the Watcher of the Water, the Cave Troll, Lurtz(the leader Uri-Kai that kills Boromir), and more. And now, for the info on the graphics and my results. The graphics are incredible! I mean, when have you ever seen so much detail in a sort of game like that? And when have you ever seen objects and objects(I'm talking about Orcs and ect.) coming into the screen without a flaw, glitch, of it momentarily freezing up? Now, for the rating

9/10 A great game, great graphics, and leaves you felling like you are The Fellowship of the Ring!

Lord of the Movie Games

Many a time in the past has the concept of a game based on a movie been attempted. Most of them have been shot down, but those few that made it were something to watch. Lord of the Rings falls into that category. The game puts you in the world of Middle Earth as one of the three characters: Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn. Each character has his own weapon and special moves he can execute in the heart of war. The graphics in the game are spectacular. Each level begins with a clip from the Two Towers, and then bleeds into the video game. The transformation is barely noticible. The characters are also extreamly similar to their real life clones. The sounds is also spectacular. It contains the real voices and soundtrack from the film. The mood of the song changes in battle, which gives it a special touch. The gameplay is also fun. It is one of the few great hacking games, where one does really nothing put kill away at endless amounts of orcs. The bosses too give you the oppurtunity to add a little strategy to your play. Although my review so far makes the game seem perfect it does fall slightly short of that title. As many people have said before a 2 player addition would be great. I have also found that Gimly's appearance isnt as smooth as the other characters.
All in all the game is great and challenging and will keep your wits and inner Odysseus strolling. I easily give it 5 out of 5 stars.
