Flamboyant Annoyance

Zelda fans, you are in for a treat. Nintendo has done it again with this one. Majora's Mask is a game of a large 3-D world, a lot of enemies, wonderful environments, and yet again, great gameplay. Though the gameplay in the game is similar to that of the first, many more aspects are involved. You have to find some 30 masks throughout your quest, three of which allow you to change into different characters: a Deku Scrub, a Goron, or a Zora.

The story is pretty simple. You start off riding Epona through a forest when out of nowhere two fairies spook her. Epona rares back throwing you off of her and rendering you unconscious. During this time, a skull kid inspects you for any valuables(the fairies are his friends) items you may be carrying, taking what he finds: your beloved ocarina.

You awaken, and in fright the skull kid jumps on Epona and rides away, you pursue. This is where you must begin. When you run into the skull kid only minutes later, he transforms you into a Duku Scrub for your persistence and yet again escapes. Upon his escape one of the fairies is trapped with you. Her name is Tatl and she agrees to help you if you can help her find her brother(the other fairie).

Upon retrieving your ocarina you learn as well that the moon is on a crash course with your world. You have three days until it reaches its destination. Each day is roughly fifteen minutes real time. But fret not friend, once you retrieve your ocarina you can play the song of time and return to the beginning of the first day. Although this is helpful, anything you have done in the game will be reset. Once you go back to day one, anything you did will have to be redone. You will lose all money(unless put in the bank?)and all items(they'll just be reset to zero). This is annoying at times, but the game will give you 40+ hours of fun.

Majora's Mask like Ocarina of Time is full of puzzles and subquests. Be it known though, the game is more difficult than OoT. Hearts are made less available, enemies have become stronger and smarter, and the puzzles require a lot more thinking. And as for the sound: SUPERB! There is no game like it, and it will have you wanting more.

Majora's Mask is a must have for even the unfaithful Zelda gamers(do those exist?).

Majora's Mask: Better than Ocarina of Time!

At first, I wasn't sure I wanted to get this game. I did'nt think any game could come close to the quality of Ocarina, and the whole idea of only three days sounded like a bad idea, I didn't want to be limited on game time, but then I saw some reviews, and heard people talking, saying how good this game was and that it was (if possible) better than Ocarina so I got it. And played it. And then couldn,t stop playing it. This game is Awesome. If the aspect of time is preventing you from buying this game, don't worry. You get to keep on playing it over, and keep your items, therefore saving it, or you can save it where you are in the time period by hitting an owl statue with your sword, and the owls are also used as warp points. The whole time idea is brilliant, and so is the note book. it tells you where all the people arein the three day limit. and you get to replay the puzzles, because after three days when you warp back they all reset. and for the dungeons and such, you can slow the games flow of time. Speaking of dungeons, they are excellently designed, which go along with the great story line. and the masks are really cool, too. three of them transform you into things (a goron, a deku shrub, and a zora) and the others (24 in all) have there own uses, such as the bunny mask making you run faster.the ocarina also plays a large part in this game, there are many songs you can learn that have different uses. A lot of the same people from OoT return, but have different roles. the controls are basically the same, when your not wearing one of the three transforming masks.

All in all, this is a great game, and I hope you choose to buy it and have loads of fun playing it.

This game is the best. Ever. I mean in the histroy of all video games, this is number one in my opinoin. From falling of my horse to finishing all of the dozens of side quests this game has to offer. I mean, have you ever played a game where you have to relive the same 3 days over and over again to finish the game? Or have an item as awesome as the Bombers Notebook? I think not. I heard one guy say that you couldn't save your game. ... you use the owls. All in all this game is great. Buy it the first chance you get cause its going to become an instatn classic. Just like the other n64 zelda game,Banjo-Kazooie, Mario, and Perfect Dark.

All the bells and whistles, but is this "fun"?

Ocarina of Time was so enjoyable, and its world such a feast for the imagination, that when I first purchased it and started playing, I found myself in a near quandary: complete law school or defeat Ganon? Decisions. Decisions. Fortunately, I managed somehow to do both.

I knew I would have to purchase Majora's Mask regardless of how good or bad it was, if for no other reason than to see what happens next. When I first placed it in the console, it did not disappoint. It is another aesthetically pleasing smorgasbord of stimulus for the mind. The expansion pak seems to make certain things (like the game menu) move along quicker, and the mysteries around every corner do not disappoint. For those who like to immerse themselves in the story (it really is preferable to reality, no?), this game has an enjoyable sense of non-urgency, as though your defeat of Ganon in Ocarina of Time was the "real" battle. You are, perhaps, taking a break in between colossal struggles of good vs. evil. We catch what seems like a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Hyrule during peacetime. Majora's Mask shows us what kind of spats Link might get into during one of his "down times" in a liberated Hyrule. So, it is all there, or so it seems. However, Majora's Mask is missing perhaps the most vital, yet abstract element: fun. I'm just not having a good time playing. In fact, if I were being paid to perform the futile and aggravating tasks that the game asks me to perform, I would demand a raise!

After playing awhile, I found myself frustrated often, bored more often, and worse, studying for exams instead of playing! The problem with Majora's Mask is that it is SO TEDIOUS. It is an obstacle course of menial tasks, with an inexplicable time limit. (Note to game designers: A game isn't more interesting because you make a gamer jump through more hoops to reach a goal. It is more interesting when you make it more interesting!) The time limitation is simply perplexing. Perhaps I am unlike other gamers, but I purchase an adventure game to explore. I like to look around every corner, and leave no stone unturned. The time constraint forces one to stay "on task" in a way that is quite simply improper for an adventure game. It is just one more feature that makes Majora's Mask less enjoyable to play. I find myself dreading the game, but sometimes forging ahead, motivated by curiosity. Curiosity is waning.

There are enough games with cuddly running, jumping, and for example, gliding from flower to flower as a flying Deku (gag). Maybe Mario, but not Link. Might it be that we've never seen Hyrule during peacetime because it is so darn boring there? Is this all that its residents can think to do? Wow. This even makes Delaware seem appealing!

Frankly, if you are in the mood for tedious assignments, and unreasonable deadlines within which to complete them, GO TO WORK. At least there someone will pay you to go through the frustration!

Anxiously awaiting the next colossal battle...

Matt

I was a bit skeptical of this game because I heard some reviews saying that you only have 3 days to play. But when I got it I was amazed. I'd give the graphics 5 stars and its never boring. The masks are also so cool. The Goron mask turns you to Goron, ect. And the final battle is amazing. Even if you've never played Zelda Ocarina of Time I would buy this game. YEAH!!!!

Miyamoto, you've done it again!

Probably the most hyped, anticipated item in the gaming world besides PS2, "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask," is finally here. Believe me, it was worth the wait!

The story starts out with Link searching for an unknown friend (Nintendo never tells us... curse them!!) three months after the fall of King Ganondorf. On the way, his horse and ocarina get stolen from a Skull Kid wearing a mysterious mask and his two fairies. You follow him and get sucked into a parallel universe that has the crisis of the moon falling from the sky down onto the Earth. Interesting, ne?

Actually, the real beauty of the story is the little stuff. Such as using the four guardians' masks to stop the moon from falling. Also, you'll be taking two aliases other than Link, so you'll be in for quite the treat when people talk to you. You'll learn your aliases history, background, etc... However, they're leaning away from the land we all love, Hyrule... I miss Hyrule...

Graphically, speaking, the game truly pushes the Nintendo 64 to the limit. However, it does REQUIRE the Expansion Pak. Well worth it, trust me. It takes a while to actually see the sheer magnificence in the graphics. In the beginning, you'll think, "Oh, these graphics are the same as Ocarina of Time." However, then you'll see water. Oh my, the water. I've got Dreamcast, and let me tell you, the Dreamcast's water ain't got nothin' on Majora's Mask's water!

Now, into the aural portion. Well, quite frankly, it rocks. With Dolby Digital Surround Sound, you'll be in the game. If you have the Rumble Pak... well, you're in for a little slice of heaven. Oh, and I'd like to add a little note: the "Overworld" theme is back. The score that Ocarina of Time left out... Majora's Mask has it and is better than ever!

The control is fairly the same as Ocarina of Time. This is good and bad. The good: the Z-Targeting system is back! The bad: I think we were all hoping for more than just another control re-feature.

This is one thing that cannot be skipped: the sub-quests! .... To make up for the short dungeons (there are only four in the game), they made the sub-quests! There are many masks to collect, and man... you'll be here for a while. You'll also want to collect as many bottles as you can. Now, we have a maximum of six bottles! WOW!

The replay value is incredible! Like any other Zelda game, you'll find yourself playing this game over and over. That is, unless, you hate Zelda... but who hates Zelda? Anyone who hates Zelda raise their hand... didn't think so. With so many masks and items to collect, you'll make a groove in your couch.

Difficulty? Hard. Very hard. The dungeons are challenging, and the bosses can be a real pain, sometimes. And with so many transformation masks and special weapons, you'll have to use your head for many parts.

Overall, this is a game that cannot be skipped. ... is nothing compared to the satisfaction of owning one of the greatest games in the Zelda series!

Majora's Mask is the greatest game i have ever played for any system. The graphics and sound are amazing, unlike most games the music does not get repetitive. The play control is excellent, although sometimes i wish they had used the top bottom for another item spot. The only other downsides i can see is sometimes time manipulation can get frustrating. It takes too much real time to save a game, because in reality you have to use the Song of Soaring to go back to clock town, then you deposit your rupees at the bank and then you can save, this takes too much time, especially if you have to turn the game of quickly.

Other than that i think the game is superb. The gaming environment is huge. At first i did not think it was going to be so big, but i was wrong. Some people might be scared off by the small number of Temples (4) compared to Ocarina of Time (7) but in reality Majora's Mask has about 10 temples. The 2 Spider Temples, The Water, Ice and Wood Temple, The search for Kafei and his Wedding Mask, The Pirate Cove and The Graveyard, are all fun and time consuming, with many puzzles and problems to solve. The side quests for the 30 masks range from easy to extremely challenging.

All in all i think that Majora's Mask is an excellent game. Majora's Mask is challenging, fun and truly a great game.

From what I have played so far it is much better than Ocarina of time. The graphics are great as far as N64 is concerned the control is great and it is great to finaly hear the original Zelda theme again. As far as I am concerned there is no other game company in the world that makes games a great and as fun to play than Nintendo.
