It is broken! Replacement arrived and is decent

This game does not work on my Playstation 2. Every time I attempt to play the game all of the roads and buildings become invisible in the first 30 seconds of the game!

The whole point of having a game console is to avoid these types of problems. But it appears that testing the product before it went out the door was not in the game plain at Acclaim.

UPDATE 5-13-02

I recently received my replacement copy of Crazy Taxi. It only took the manufacturer about a week to send a new copy after I sent in my defective copy [although it took me almost a year to get around to sending it in].

The game is entertaining, and I am sure that I would have enjoyed it much more if it did not have to compete with GTA3 for my time. The game is solid, but it does not have quite the wide-open set of options that are presented in some other games.

But if you want to spend some time with this game, be sure to get your crazy launch and crazy slide down or you are not going very far.

Most definitely worth buying

If you've never played this game, you gotta give it a chance. This game is so addictive. If you've played the arcade version, expect the same quality (which is great!). Don't forget you'll need a memory card to play it though (for Playstation 2). This is one of those games you can play just about whenever you feel like it...unlike some role playing games that you'll never play again after you beat it.

Boring and Non Realistic

This game is so not realistic. Seriously if you hit a car or crash your car is still dosen't have one dent. I first played this at my friends house and I loved it but when I bought it I got bored with it one the 2nd day. This game is not for kids it has swearing and voilence that's why it is rated T for teen. I don't know what peole are saying when they say it's great for children. Please rent before you buy and I do not recommend you waste your $20 on a game with nothing realistic not for children and boring.

Let's Weigh the facts...

Many people in this reveiw section seem to like constantly bringing up the fact that this is the same game as the dreamcast version (which it is), and that it is stupid to buy it. I think that is stupid in itself. Look at the current state of Sega. It's falling apart. Sonic games might end up on the playstation 2. My main point is this: If you have a dreamcast *and* a ps2, or just a dreamcast, get the dc version. Someone did say it was cheaper (19.99 as oppossed to 49.99). But the prospect of buying a dreamcast to play the origional version of this game is silly, to say the least. I'm looking forward to the release of Crazy Taxi on the ps2, because I never bought a dreamcast, and never will, because it is now abandoned by it's creators. I admit, I expect it to look worse on ps2 than on dc, I'm just happy to be getting it at all. Crazy Taxi is a wonderful game, even if the port turns out to only be decent and not wonderful.

made obsolete by GTA3, but good for the youngins

This game is a good bet for kids under the age of 14, and it is a good fast-paced scramble for passengers and money. The annoying bits are that there is no damage to your taxi when you hit "solid" objects, you cannot mow people down on the street, the missions are all timed, the street surface glitch is EXTREMELY annoying (sometimes the street will completely disappear, looking like glass), and the wannabee Wolfman Jack should look for another means of employment. The side missions, exp. the long jump, [are] REALLY [bad].

Extremely fun Game!!!!!!

The first SEGA game on the PS2 has arrived, and if Crazy Taxi is an example of what SEGA has in store for us, then there will be a whole lot of new PS2 owners in the near future.

Crazy Taxi is a near perfect port of the arcade hit. The graphics, the sounds and addictive gameplay are all there.

If you love the arcade game as I do, then you simply must own the PS2 version. It is simply a blast to play.

Dreamcast owners who already own this, may want to hold off on buying the PS2 version, as it doesn't offer any changes over the DC version.

Bottomlime, Crazy Taxi is an excellent game, that is very fun to play. Well worth the [money] to add it to your collection!!

Highly Recommended!!

Crazy Taxi or not so crazy taxi

Crazy Taxi is a good game. It's just that it's not realistic. I rented the game for 3 nights and I realised that I wasted £2.50, which I could have used to rent Timesplitters or Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. If you crave smashing every single telephone booth and car you see, then buy it. If you don't, then do not spend your money on it.

Returning, it's half price at CompUSA

Not a bad game; pretty fun and it's hard to really screw up (compared to driving the Laguna Course on new Gran Turismo 3!

Really my only beef is that right after I bought this game, I saw it (two days ago) for $... at the local CompUSA, and they had plenty of stock. I asked; this was not a limited promotional price, but everyday for several weeks now.

$..., OR $...? Heck for that price differential I'll put up with the ... CompUSA anytime...

Shoul never have left the arcades

Crazy Taxi is not really for consoles-its for arcade machines.
This game is actually LESS realistic than the PS1 game "DRIVER" as no matter how hard your Taxi NEVER gets a dent.
I Remember the first time i saw this game in an arcade with my cousin Breege,we played it and i was thinking it was like GTA:Vice City as you were in this city and could knock over any car you like(however in GTA you can do MUCH MORE) but pedestriens just bounce out the way which annoys me about old driving games(In CT they jump,In Driver they rather run or glitch through your car).

bye

Great game, but pricey!

Crazy Taxi is a five-star game. But let's take a look at the facts:

1) It's selling for thirty dollars more than the Dreamcast version, which has been out for over a year; and

2) From what I've heard, it "offers nothing new over the Dreamcast version." (IGN.com) Acclaim may be hiding something up its sleeves, by that's rather unlikely.

Unless you have an overwhelming preference for playing Crazy Taxi on the Dual Shock, there's virtually no reason to buy the PS2 version. Although early reports state that the PS2 Crazy Taxi looks almost as good as the Dreamcast version, that's about as good as it gets-- ports, by nature, will always be slightly inferior to the original versions, so the textures on the PS2 version are reportedly not as good (though most people probably won't be able to tell the difference). It was the same case with Ubisoft's Rayman 2, which is graphically below the DC version.

My recommendation is simply to get the original DC Crazy Taxi. If you don't have a Dreamcast already, use the thirty bucks you'll save towards buying the console; it's a no-brainer.
