Folks, the game isn't even out yet. Yes, it's been out for Dreamcast for over a year. No one is disputing that. The reason Crazy Taxi is coming out for PS2 ***now*** because Sega only made the decision to port their games to PS2 (and later fold their hardware division) in the last few months, and I'm sure Acclaim has been hard at work on the port ever since.

The reason there are no new features/characters is a simple one: Sega's agreement with Acclaim states that the PS2 port will not have anything above and beyond the DC version, except in terms of tweaks to graphics/sound quality.

And remember that most of the screenshots that are out there are of pre-release alpha and beta builds - and are NOT the finished product!

Personally, I am looking forward to buying this game when it comes out for PS2... As for CT2, I'm sure Acclaim is probably working on that port already, in order to have it to market by the holidays. It wouldn't surprise me.

Great Game!

Dear Amazon.com Readers,

There is a video arcade in New York City called "Bar Code" and it was there, that I played Crazy Taxi for the first time, a while back. I can't tell you how fun I think this game is, and how much I got a kick out of driving on sidewalks and violating every traffic law there is! What a fun way to blow off some steam!

To the cynical reviewer who posted before I did, I am sure that this game will feature improved graphics and sound over the previously released title on Dreamcast. I hope that Crazy Taxi 2 is released on Playstation 2 sometime soon. Since I live in New York City, I will love being able to run people over, and show of my "road rage." I give lots of acclaim to Acclaim, and wish them much success on this game.

I do not yet have a Playstation 2 system, but this game makes buying one an extremely attractive deal.

Take care, as always,

--Daniel

A Great Arcade-Style Game!!!

Crazy Taxi is basically a driving game in which you play as one of four different taxi drivers trying to rack-up the most money in fares as possible. You pick someone up, drive them to their destination, drop them off, and repeat. Bonus money is given for getting a passenger to thier destination quickly and for performing trick maneuvers along the way. Fare money is lost if you don't arrive at the passenger's destination in the allotted time.

This game is almost an exact copy of the arcade game. In addition to the city in the arcade game, you also have another city to drive thru (recklessly). You also have a bunch of simplistic mini-games (called Crazy Box) which allow you to fine-tune your skills. You can play by the same rules as the arcade game (where playtime varies depending on your skill-level) or you can play a 3, 5, or 10 minute game. Individual and overall high scores are recorded.

My wife and I find this game highly addictive. It's a great game to play when you don't have a lot of time (or don't want to do a lot of thinking). I love my Nascar Heat 2002 and Twisted Metal: Black games (both of which I highly recommend), but they require a longer playtime and I rarely have that much time to sit and play them.

The only changes that I would like them to make to the game are:

1) Remove the vehicle pop-up. It's weird to look down a long stretch of road seeing no cars then all of sudden they're there (this does not affect gameplay in any way).

2) I should be allowed to kick a passenger out of my car once I reach the point where I know that I'm not going to get them to their destination in time (and lose their fare). After all, they see to have no problem jumping out of my speeding taxi when their time's up.

Again...this is an arcade-style game. Don't expect this game to feel like a realistic driving simulation--that's not what the manufacturer intended it to be. I'm not sure why some people get bored with it so easily. We've played for several hours and still haven't moved on to the second city or completed the Crazy Box mini-games yet. I don't see myself getting bored with it anytime soon. There's always that high-score to beat and new tricks to master... If you're concerned about the longevity of the game, rent it first and play for 30 to 60 minutes (try the 10 minute game) before buying it.

This is a great game!!! Give it a try!!!

CRAZY TAXI RULES!!! ;)

THIS GAME IS THE BOMB! It's like the best arcade game ever since Pac-Man. I live in Brooklyn New York and there is this place there called "Circle 2." Well, it's a video store and there I played Mervel Vs. Capcom. It got pretty boring soon so as I left I saw this racing. I played it for several minutes and as soon as you know it, my 3 bucks in quarters were gone in record breaking time!
When my dad bought me PS2 the only game in my head was CRAZY TAXI, CRAZY TAXI! Then the next thing I knew, he bought me Crrazzyy Taxxiii. It was soooo fun I played it 7 hours straight. I almost played it for 8 hours but my mom said no more. But there' always tomorrow.
Hey to all dem people thinking of getting Crazy Taxi, but it! It's worth it! Trrrusst ME! ;)

Wahoo! A good cure for road rage!

Crazy Taxi is a very fun take on the typical driving-type game. Fairly easy to control, fairly simple to master, this game is fun, fun, fun! You choose one of four taxi-driver characters and start picking passengers up and delivering them to their destinations. Don't worry if other cars are in your way, just bump into them, or better yet, launch yourself off a ramp to get ahead of them (or, if you think it might get you there quicker, try driving underwater or over grass). The punk sound track adds to the frenetic race to get people where they want to go in a San Francisco-like environment complete with recognizable retail stores (Levi-Strauss, Tower Records, KFC... hmm, product placement?).

Crazy Taxi includes several play modes that have different rules, depending on which you choose. There is also a training/practice mode that is quite challenging.

Parents of young kids: some of the passengers are verbally abusive if you don't get them where they want to go, and some cursing can be heard.

Nice!

Hello. This is a great game, but it has its flaws. Let's start with the good parts:

This game lets you drive one of four taxis, each with a different driver. Here's a list of them.
#1- Axel, a man probably in his twentys with green hair, has a basic cab with not many decorations.
________________________________________

#2- B.D Joe, a man probably in his late twentys, is a rapper-type guy with another basic cab. Nothing really special here.
________________________________________

#3- Gena, a woman probably in her thirtys, has red hair and is supposed to be sexy (sorry, really I am). She also has the fastest cab in MY opinion. Also nicely decorated.
________________________________________

#4- Gus, my favorite player, is a guy PROBABLY in his late fortys or early fiftys, has a small, unique cab.

Well, I say get this game, even though there is MILD language. I hope you still leave my review on, Amazon, but in this game they say the word damn. They also say the other word besides donkey. All in all, a very fun game. Please buy!

Sincerely, RedHawk48. GO COWBOYS! GO DESPERADOS! GO WHITE SOX!

Want to release some stress? Play this game!

Man, do I love going home to this game after a long hard day at work. I am not a gory-violent person and Grand Theft Auto is not my style. I'd rather pull up Crazy Taxi on the ol' PS2 and go at it. You can drive all around the city and just have a lot of fun knocking things over and having people running and screaming to get out of your way. You can drive into the ocean and just idle on the sea floor while the tropical fish swim around your car. You can collide with cable cars, drive by Kentucky Fried Chicken and knock all the diners off their outside tables, drive up the front lawn of a massive church and see the minister run for his life, or you can just wreak major havoc on the city traffic. No one will die, they manage to move out of your way fast enough...bust just barely!

Not an overly-sophisticated game, and it does get repititious if you take it seriously...but it is a hell of a lot of fun otherwise. Even better when you have people over to your house and you all compete to see who can rack up the highest fares in 3, 5, or ten minutes. Hysterically funny with a bunch of people, but a let-down if you're alone...unless you're stressed like me and you need to let it out with some good, clean fun. No blood and guts here, folks.

... Like I said, don't take it too seriously.

HAVE FUN!

I LOVE THIS GAME!

Personally, I found this game to be one of the most entertaining games for dreamcast, FOR DREAMCAST. As far as I can tell, with the research I have done, there will be no update in graphics or sound while being transfered to PS2. This is my reason in saying it is a good game for dreamcast at $, but for the exact same game for more? Give me a break! I love this game, but not enough to be ripped off. I will wait till the price drops, then I'll get it, I suggest you do the same.

I can't wait for this game.

I dont have a dc, but I have a ps2 and i cant wait for this game. I played this game in the arcades about a thousand times and I love it. As for all those people who say this game is gonna be the same or worse as the dreamcast version, they are wrong. There will be an extra town for players to explore and there will be something called a CRAZY BOX. THis Crazy Box will have a bunch(16 i think) of minigames or missions. You should definetly buy this game the first day it comes out, I know I am. I am really mad that this game was delayed for two weeks, but I will try to wait.
