Mindless Fun...And Not Much Else

The title says it all. Fable is mindless, hack-things-apart type of fun. But if you don't like that sort of thing, you're going to be sorely disappointed.
First of all, the game is awfully linear, considering all the claims of 'freedom of choice' and 'open-endedness'. The environments are small, closed, and stifling. You have a few missions to select from, and that's all. The game does tease you early on with some curiosity-piquing "fake" missions that you can never actually take. Ouch! That's just rude.
The "story" is a joke and a half. It's so lame and painful, you might just want someone to whack you over the head. To actually understand what the hell is going on, you need to have read the books and papers you find scattered throughout the world. Otherwise, when Big Bad Typical Villian guy shows up, you're going to be a wee confused. And honestly...Maze? Who couldn't have seen that coming?
And the aging system is definative of the games flaws, because it doesn't work. You age according to how much experience you use. In the gametime equivalent of a week, you can easily age to 50. And therefore be years older than your own mother, once you find her again. That kills any ability the game has to feel real.
There is actually a decent foundation of ideas here. The haircuts and tattoos are a fun concept. Getting and bedding a wife may get old fast, but it's funny the first few times. A little tweaking could make the battle system very nice, because it moves pretty fluidly. But if they plan on making a second, they need to do some serious work.
Awsome but way to short

This was an excellent game, I was really drawn into the gameplay but it was way to short. If not for the length of the game it would have recieved 5 stars

i have so say that ive never seen a game like this one since zelda 2 ( adventure of link)...the game is great!!!!..its full of adventure, excellent music( similar to the one in the splenda commercial) which is awesome to relief stress...and probably the most important thing about the game of course, is the freedom you have to do things....be good, bad, or in between...be gay,be dirty, be fat, be a prick, you name it!!!...its an excellent game and to any rpg fan is a must have...im not going to get technical like some other freaks saying that the games too short..its just an adventure rpg game,,,NOT A RACING GAME!!!...sit back ,,chill, and enjoy fable.....
THIS GAME IS TIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

I've got an Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine that says some tester killed the mayor and his wife to inherit their things and if you can do that just imagine what else you can do!Oh,and have you seen the screenshots. They're so cool.I dont have a X-BOX but that makes me want to go out and buy one or get the game for my freind so I can at least watch the game.

The developers and marketers of this game should be ashamed. I beat it in less than 16 hours with lots of messing around and buying thigns i didn't need. All the hype turned out to be just that, hype. Shame, shame, shame. Do not buy, rent this game, you can beat it in less than a week, I did.
Short, simple, not well planned

Fable is an amusing game for a little while, but I would have like to see a little more depth. I never really ended up caring about the story.
The targeting system is more than annoying. You will be fighting alongside allies, and it will suddenly target your allies when fighting. It always wants to target the unit that is the farthest away and hardest to get to. Very strange.
I was also looking for an environment that you can manipulate. Fable does not let you do this. You cannot break most props.
This game is way too short.
Why all the hype?
Fun to play for a little while.
Rent it.
Serious problems with Microsoft games on Xbox

The one star rating has nothing to do with the Fable game itself; it has to do with the makers: Microsoft. My sister bought this game, brand new, and it played fine for a short time, but after a while, it started freezing. We thought it must have gotten scratched, so we used a cleaner; even worse. Then, we used someone else's Xbox, and the same thing happened.
It really bites when you're getting into a game and it stops. We got another, thinking maybe it was a problem with the store it came from. The next game, seemingly free of scratches, brand new packaging, never been opened, did the EXACT SAME THING.
I know it's not a problem with the Xbox. There are several other games we own: Fatal Frame and others that never presented a problem. We also have another brand new Microsoft game: Malice, unplayed that freezes after about five minutes game-time.
My question for the Microsoft guys: why make products that don't work? Think a bunch of suckers are going to buy your faulty products??? Think again.
I won't be buying or renting anymore from that company.
Hoping for the Best... of the BEST!!!

Now I don't know any taboo against rating a game before playing it, but I have read about this online, and it looks like a killer game, and I have never been wrong before when predicting killer games ('cept for Bloodwake...). Prepare to be awestruck by stunning graphics, real-time fighting AND spellcasting, bizarre monsters, and boundless possibilities for the storyline. It's like Morrowind in that you can play it over and over again, and never play the same game twice. Action, adventure, even romance to a certain extent. This is on MY wish list for sure, along with Halo 2 and StarCraft Ghost. Any game that's at least on par with ES3 Morrowind, Ninja Gaiden, Star Wars KOTOR, and the ever-present Halo is a winner in my book!
Xbox rules! (I just had to say that.)
By the way, my name isn't J. Goldman. I'm actually E. Goldman. J. Goldman is my dad. Heh heh...
