Fable, It gets Good

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 2

Well, I personally think that Fable, a RPG, that is all about you choosing your path, after your town that you grew up in... burns down by bandits. This game is great, and it gets pretty good after awhile. You start to get the hang of it, and it is great if you like being evil, all though guards will come after you if you kill someone or injure in a secured poisition. If you are good, it is sort of boring. But the graphics are not all that great, but I know the Creators (Big Blue Box Studios, and Lionhead Studios) are mostly focusing on the gameplay, which I think is great for the first video-game that Big Blue Box has ever made. They are creating a great game, and there future looks good. The sound however, is pretty good, because sometimes in a bad situation, they will play a eery music sound. Overall, I reccommend this game for the Microsoft Xbox, so check it out Fable.

Fable. I should just say that this is a game by Peter Molyneux, give it a perfect score, and wrap the whole shebang and call it a review. But, instead, I'll tell you about it and why it quite didn't get that perfect review.

First, I must admit I too jumped in the hype wagon, but I didn't buy the game the day it came out. In fact, I bought it months after, after reading review after review 'warning' about the shortcomings of this game. I'm glad I didn't pay attention, 'cause I would have missed one of the best games of this videogame generation.

For those who complain about the lenght, I bet none of them played Beyond Good And Evil (another masterpiece by another genius.) I finished the game in 10 hours, which, for some, it may be too short. But let's forget about that game and get back to Fable: the first day I got it I played for eight hours straight until dawn. The game was gorgeous (except for some minor drops in the framerate here and there,) exciting, fun, glorious... whatever; it was everything I imagined it was that first time I played. The problem is that this incredible feeling of discovery and excitment was only found the first time I picked it up. After, I just couldn't play for more than an hour straight. When you put so many hours into the game you realize that there's no endless features like people hyped. You start doing the same things again. Although these are fun, they become tedious. That's why I'm glad the game lasted 20 hours and not 40, 'cause I would have never finished it like that.

It's easy to see that this game takes elements from games like Black And White, Knights Of The Old Republic, recent Zelda games, even games like Gauntlet and the Sims. All excelent titles, but when you gather the things that make these games great and put them together, you end up with a pretty shallow and skin-deep title. There's not enough depth for those who seek it.

Although the game is 'short' (you'll finish this game more than one time, I promise,) this game is highly recommended. It's more of an experience than a game, and Microsoft recently dropped the price to 30 bones, so you can't say no now. Forget anything you know about the game (specially this review) and just buy it.

Awesome and ground-breaking

Fable did not quite live up to the pre-launch hype, but compared to what is currentlt available, it totally kicked-[...]! The graphics are incredible, the story-line flows nicely, and degree of freedom available to the player allows for some serious replay.

Gotta get it!

Gorgeous and not too easy!

I have been playing this game for a few weeks now,and I just love it.The graphics are astounding;the music is appropriate and sumptuous;the game play is logical and although some of the quests are easy, most aren't,and I find myself coming back to try again and again.I am trying to polish off Jack of Blades, and he is a toughie.
The fact that you can choose to be morally perfect,or maybe just a little bit evil,or completely evil makes the game interesting.I actually find myself debating whether I should steal something,or smack somebody innocent around.I like the "moral choice" aspect.
There are so many cool things about this game,it's really hard to include everything in a review. There are a ton of things to ferret out.Lots of options as to whether to play as a magic hero,or combat hero.Lots and lots of interesting enemies.
All in all..if you are a wizard with the game pad, maybe you won't find the game so challenging, but I am just starting out with my xbox, and I am enjoying learning as I go along..and get killed.
One more thing: The various environments are very lush and beautiful, and you actuially get kind of immersed in them as you go along.I can compare them to the environments in "Dungeon Siege."
Now...time for another cup of coffee, and then Jack and I have a date.

Best game ever

If you like the halo games then you'll love this game. you can be good or evil. if you're evil than you grow horns. this game is a great i played it at my friends house and i shot a guy in the neck and his head fell off. my friend started kicking. the graphics could be better but this game is much than halo or halo 2.

In FABLE, you are given the opportunity to choose whether your character will follow a life of evil or one of righteousness. Though there are 4 different endings, the game has basically the same storyline. The young Hero watches as his hometown is destroyed and his family murdered. The young Hero is then taken in my a member of the Heroes Guild to be trained and raised. The boy grows up and becomes a young man and as he travels about completing quests, different pieces to his past begin to fall into place. In all honesty, FABLE is a rather lengthy RPG that is fairly easy to play. That makes it kind of ideal for the casual gamer who has the time to invest to complete the game. I really enjoyed playing FABLE, but was kind of disappointed by how the story ended (in my opinion all of the four endings are lame). The graphics are at times visually stunning. Also, the way your character ages throughout the game and how your character's face changes with each battle and such make for a very interesting twist. Overall, I really enjoyed the game and despite the disappointing ending would recommend it.

seriously flawed but playable anyway.

when my housemate gave me his copy of this game to play recently, I had no idea how much hype it has had, because I'm not much of a gamer. I have finished a grand total of maybe four games in my life.
This game, despite the fact its kinda dull for the first hour, had me interested straight away, which is a rare thing for me. I liked the concept and the graphics were pretty nice to look at, and it all captured my imagination - which I like a game to do. So I was happy to stick with it for a while, because despite its flaws the game is eminently playable. but wow does it have flaws:

the fighting / menu system is a mess. It's so unweildy and cumbersome. every button is used and objects are assignable. up to now I havent figured out a way to unassign things so I've ended up digging at really inappropriate moments, like in the middle of a melee.
the concept of good/evil is interesting and it has an impact on the way the rather one dimensional NPCs interact with you, but in the end it is pointless because the outcome is the same either way.
the camera is generally alright but lets you down when you really need it, like when you're under attack from all sides. and if you press the wrong thumbstick the stupid map takes up half the screen. this can be very annoying.
Why the fishing thing gets harder the more you do it is beyond me.
For all it's hyped ultra freedom, the game is still pretty linear, and you can't explore anywhere you want, unlike a game like the GTA series. You are restricted to staying on the path mapped out, but this only a minor problem.
The story line is pretty halfbaked, just your usual RPG/Fantasy cliches really. On that note, I don't really think this is much of an RPG, its more an action-adventure game and unfortunately the endless button mashing battles get kinda samey and dull after a while.
A lot of people have complained that the game is too short, but I havent really been concerened about that. It's a fairly easy game for the most part, I guess hard core gamers might feel cheated somewhat.
It's playable though, and i'm pretty fussy when it games to games. I enjoyed it and wanted to keep playing despite all of it's many flaws. I wouldnt recommend it to hard core fans of the genre but i'm sure they all ready have a very negative opinion of it.

A good Game if you ignored the hype

This is such a unique and new approach to a game. From the time you are a child to adulthood you make your decision as to what type of person you want to be. Are you a fighter, magician, a thief? Do you want to be help people or destroy them? Do you want to marry a man or a woman? Tattoos, hairstyles, clothing, shoes, and weapons, you have a choice in everything, and is what makes it so universal. You reall feel like you can inject some of your own personality into the character, not just playing a character that has been pre-created to look and act a certain way. I can't wait to see what will be done in Fable 2. Hope they add even more options, like piercings and gender selection and even more of the good stuff they have already injected on this one.

Ugly Art, Sophmoric Humor... Fable *FAR* from Legendary

Okay, after finishing Jade Empire and hearing it compared favorable to Fable I hurried to purchase a copy. Boy...Was I disappointed. Fable's graphics are really amateurish. The characters are nobby-looking and stylized to a point they seemed really ugly. There is no initial customization. When you are a boy, you just look like a small body with a huge adult head. And this is considered cutting edge? Please. These graphics look worse than any modern game I've ever seen.

Then there is the gameplay. I'm not a big fan of sophmoric humor. So you can imagine my delight when this 'cutting' edge game has a hot button for flatulance, belching and a score of other unaceptable behavior. This might appeal to the woopie cushion crowd, but for me it was a definite negative. =-(

Moving on to the characterization.. Or lack thereof. You are a big warrior. You can be either good or evil. All dialogue reads like a third grade writing report. Characters have names such as: "Maze" and "Whisper" and "Thunder" oh, boy, who thought THOSE up?

Disappointing. Might appeal to youngish fanboys but this girl gamer was NOT impressed. Sad.
