An amazing 18 hours - looking forward to another playthrough

Fable is a great game. After the relatively slow first hour (training and explanation of the good/evil gameplay elements) the game picks up and doesn't let go. The variety of gameplay styles and customization options is great and the game compels you to keep playing through and making your character the best he can be.

Gameplay: Playing through the first time, I thought I had made many good choices in terms of what to level up at the beginning of the game. After finishing the game, I realized I had access to several different options that would have worked well too. The fact that I finished the game without using those other options makes me want to replay the game. It also shows that you can play the game how you want to and make the choices you want, and still be able to succeed. I like the way the game ramps up its difficulty. You can revisit and area several times, and each time you get there, the enemies are tougher and smarter. This way, it's always a challenge but not overwhelmingly difficult or frustrating.

Character morality, whether you play good or evil, is not a gimmick. I personally could not be evil toward the end of the game because I did not want people to think badly of my hero for doing something evil. I wanted him to succeed, have a nice house, and have a good relationship with his husband (hooray for gay marriage). I even started to think about having a house in Bowerstone South, so if he ever adopted (not that you can do that in the game) his child could live in a place with other children where he or she could have friends and go to school. All the while I kept telling myself, it's just a game, but that is how attached you get to your character.

Graphics & Sound - Each area of Albion has its own look and style. The details in everything from the houses to the roads, bridges, etc. are amazing. This does feel like a real world. If you've ever been overwhelmed by Hyrule in the Zelda games, this game is even better.

The sound rivals that of Halo, not in style, but in quality. I would certainly buy this soundtrack if it ever became available. It's that good. The characters do repeat some of the same sayings again but it still feels good to have people call you liberator and cheer you on as you enter a town. The characters also comment on your recent exploits and what you need to do next.

Value and Reviewers Tilt - It took me 18 hours to complete the game doing just about all the side quests (I didn't do the evil ones since my character was good). That time did not include time in menus or anything else. If you add the time you spend buying spells, cycling through inventory, etc. playtime is more likely to be 20 hours or so. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward continue playing as good, and start a new game and be evil. I really want to see how the world changes. That will make the game a 36 to 45 hour one for me.

Closing Comments - While its true that this game may not have lived up to the hype of being the best RPG ever, it is incredibly good. Everyone with an XBOX should play this game at least once. It's like the grown up Zelda that you always wanted Nintendo to make but with a lot more characterization and options.

this game should have never and i mean NEVER been made

This game has one of the best music and graphics I've ever seen in a RPG, It's a lot of fun to have all those moral questions about stealing or letting people cheat in their wives, you can do a lot of fun stuff in the game like getting married, buy-ssell-Rent houses, do commerce with precious stones, etc.
But.. The game is incredibly easy, in al the games I played, RPG and non-RPG I never had the experience of becoming so powerfull using a Magic -Enflame- or a weapon that from the middle part of the game through the end of it I killed every oponent with a couple of swings or blasts, and the final 3 bosses were so easy to beat using magic that for someone who hasn't played a role playing game since Zelda and The Secret Of Mana (where I spent hour and hours trying to beat the game) I didn't lost a single life after I made the enflame magic powerfull enough. The ending Sucks, I'm not going to spoil you the ending of this game, but don't expect a good movie secuence or interesting dialogues, I wonder why if they invested so much in graphics and game play they finished with a simple and short ending?.
I don't regret buying this game, but now I know I will first check the reviews here on Amazon and also note that the 17+ rating is not proportional to the level of difficult of the game.

bad but good

i have yet to play the game but from what every one says the graphics are good, lightings great, story plot is too short, and combat is too easy.

i haven't followed the games making so i had no expectations about this game so i have come to the conclusionsthe game is great fun but disapointing at the end. After reading about 20 of the other reviews i do have a few expectations;
1:better have good graphics
2:better take at least a week to defeat
3:should be enjoyable

depending on what path you take and how many times you want to play the game will decide the time spent on the game. The normal gamer should spend 1 week-1 month of per play the short time playing after for an=bout 3-4 months.(maybe 2 hours per week if that)

Awesome Game

Fable was an awesome game. The graphics and sound were incredibly detailed and I also liked the spoken text. It was probably the best rpg I have ever played however it is probably the shortest rpg I have ever played, which is its only downside in my opinion. I definatly recomend it to any rpg fan with an xbox.

An interesting game but not appropriate for kids under 18

I bought this game knowing there would be a certain level of violence. What is not mentioned on the Amazon site, and was only known to me when I received the product is that there is also sexual content. I would urge Amazon (and all other web vendors) to have standard full disclosure of all rating information displayed on the game package. It may also prove useful if Amazon were to enhance the (customer) game review process by addition of check-boxes for various categorizations, e.g. age appropriate, level of violence, sexual content, etc., then allow search/sort on these values.

Good game. Not my cup of tea.

This game is an okay 3-rd person adventure game. I really didn't find it that fun for me, mainly because this is not my type of game. However, my brother loved it who loves RPG adventure type games.

All in all, if you like world of warcraft, runscape then you will love this game.

Great game, Great potential.... far TOO short!

I was one of the many caught up in the hype of how this game was to revolutionize the RPG genre, and in many ways, this title does do just that.

However....

It was simply too short. Honestly, it's possible to get nearly every item, complete nearly every side-quest and max out your player's stats in under 10 hours. This was a GREAT disappointment for those of us who're used to putting in 50-100 hours on a decent RPG with still a fair amount of replay value. I feel this is where they should have placed their focus, replay value.
Yeah, it's cool to be able to choose your path to glory, good or evil, but that aspect of the game amounts to no more than "bells and whistles" and contributes little to the actual outcome and gameplay experience.
On the plus side, however, it's a beautifully done game. And I love the battle system. It intergrates melee and magic attacks seamlessly; there's no real pausing to a menu and selecting a single spell then casting it with a "chance" of success. You can swing a sword and cast offensive magics at nearly the same time!
All in all, I feel they focused too much on the rinky-dink crap that doesn't mean much and too little on the scope of the game. I recommend this title simply because it fails to meet its own standards and not so much the standards set by the genre. Also, I like to have series games from beginning to end, and I hear that sequals are already in the works; I look forward to seeing where the developers correct and adjust themselves.

a great but short and easy game

Great game in all aspects accept in that it was too short and a bit too easy. Hopefully part 2 will be longer and more challanging...

i bought the game a week ago and thoroughly enjoyed it a word of caution to anyone who reads this though. j&r totally screwed me i had to buy a second copy because the first one completely stoped working. the second one wont even play now and ive played it on the 360 and normal xbox. i think there is a problem with j&rs stock and you would be better of lokking evrywhere you can first before buying form them. again i liked the game which is why i gave it a perfect score but if i could i would have given j&r one star or zero YOU GUYS SUCK and dont try to pin it on me for scratching the disk its new and whats more it had a crack in the case when i got it.
