The success of any greatness is based upon trial and error. That's why I'm not so quick to slap a one or two star review on a game deserving of so much more. Fable is a must have title for any XBox anthology. Even with the game's shortcomings, it's still one of the best RPGs to date. Fable was designed as a pilot game, and the outcome was a well crafted adventure that offered something fresh and new for RPG enthusiast. Nintendo's Zelda series was the pioneer of the RPG realm as we know it today, and is still very much alive and kicking. SquareSoft's Final Fantasy series, while on the decline of late, still invigorated the world of role playing in video games. Now, in today's ravenous world of RPG gaming, a new hero emerges from the abyss. Enter ~ Fable.
Peter Molyneux and the creators behind Fable did spill the beans about this game long before it was finalized. Those who followed the creation of Fable from day one are the ones who fell victim to this game's lack of "enhancements". When Fable finally hit the shelves, people took sharp notice to the many missing game-play elements once described in the press about this up and coming role playing adventure of a lifetime. This is likely the cause for many negative reviews. The other aspects (and ones I concur with most) is the fact the game is just too damn short and easy. There's only about 20 - 25 hours worth of good solid game-play, when it needed to be 35 - 40 hours. Yes, the game was short. And no, you can't urinate on your enemies after you slay them or have a sick and twisted sexual fantasy with Thunder and your sister in Lynchfield Graveyard, but people let us be real here, it is a damn good game.
When playing Fable, one should think quality, not quantity. The graphics are genius. Superb sound effects and genuine RPG tunes can be found throughout the entire journey of your hero or villain. The voiceovers are sweet. You pick the title of your character. You become the personality of your hero. The hero is you! You are the hero! That's what makes Fable so special. You shape the path of your character. You can alter the appearance of your character also, which keeps the game fresh from beginning to end. You're not going to get as many hours on Fable as you would Morrowind, but the Fable experience will pay for itself time and time again. I've only played as a "hero" thus far, but I'm about to embark on the "villain" quest. The game is detailed extravagantly (in a good way) and you really get the feeling you've died and found yourself in RPG heaven.
The bottom line is this; you pay $45 - $50 for a game that is far superior than most games in the market that cost that, so why is everyone claiming "rent it first". This game will pay for itself. Even if you feel it's too short, you can play this game time and time again. Each new game is a new character, adventure and experience. The interaction between yourself and other characters provide a feeling you're right there in the game. Fable is a new blood of the RPG industry. It has been heavy successful in the open market. You can't find it in some stores. For every fan who was disappointed in the game, you'll find ten others who'll give it acclamation. Fable 2 will be the true test to becoming a franchise title. I'm beyond satisfied with my 25 hours of game-play, because those 25 hours of game-play was some of the best I've had in years.
Great game, but...

This is one of the best games I've played. The graphics were amazing; as was the music. I found it to be a very addicting game. However, it had some draw backs. It was too short of a game, it was way too easy, and it lacked a good story line. If it was longer, and a bit more challenging I would give it 5 stars. Hopefully Fable 2 will be longer and more challenging.
So soon??

Fable may have taken years to create, but the results are problematic...
I cleared Fable in about four days of moderate playing. I wasn't trying to clear the game quickly - I was just going along with the ebb and flow. You could slow things down by taking time to hand out chocolates, roses, and wedding rings to the in-game ladies in hopes of sparking a marriage, but my real-life wife would probably consider that cheating if she walked in on me. You can also try to build up enough cash to buy a residence to house your lovers, but I chose to buy armor and weapon upgrades instead. Call me old fashioned...
The game is very restrictive as to where you can and can't go. There is a mini-map for every area you enter. You can only follow the paths allowed on the map. Every time you enter a new area, the map and graphics must load. Travel is made easier through porting, but the limited pathing just left me feeling claustrophobic.
Graphics were good, but the controls were tiresome. You will hit the buttons in succession enough times while fighting to bring a burning sensation to your fingers. If you've ever questioned whether the pain in your hands and wrists was the beginning of carpal tunnel, this game will not help with your possible medical condition and should be avoided.
One other thing... If you've played RPG's and went totally warrior, this game requires a little more variety. The last battle requires some distance fighting (magic or arrows). I focused on hack and slash gameplay and when it came to the final fight I was a little out of my element. I gained a new respect for those skirt-wearing rangers; the power of a bow is lethal. If you enjoy playing a mage, there is a variety of magic spells to choose from as well. Of course, most will play some form of hybrid.
Overall, the game was just too quick. The real-time hack and slash combat system did not really fit the "RPG" style. The game did have some Zelda qualities to it, but I'm predicting a platinum hit in no time...
I only found one problem

Yes, i am sure you have heard is the best RPG game, yes it is, i think you have also heard that its too short, yes it is. I finished this game in 9 hours but i think is one of the best games i have ever played. You can choose what ever you want, being good, evil or between, i chose evil and its perfect i can kill everyone i wanmt and do what ever i want, i am sure you know what i mean, is just perfect. The only problem i found was the end, you could keep he last sword if you see all the credits, ok but.... Then what?? I decided that i was going to make it my world, so i started going city over city killing everyone that lives there and buying each house, now everything is mine. But the part of short story is ok. I hope one of this days xbox decide to make xbox live game, so i can download any type of content and continue playing. Here comes wut i rate:
Fun: 5 stars
Graphics: 5 stars
educational: 3 stars
RPG it self: THE BEST
One of the Best RPGs Ever

I got this game for Christmas and it just blew me away. I had hi expectations, but I had no Idea it would be this great. On my player profile it said that I played for 30 hours, and I believe it. There were even a few times when me and my brother were fighting over the Xbox. The good/evil thing works really well, and so does the combat engine. There is also a lot of humor in the game which kept me laghing throughout the game. If the game has one flaw, Its that its so Easy. Through the whole game I think I died once. The actual story mode is pretty short, but if u sit thru the credits, u can continue slaughtering innocents or monsters, whichever u like. One of the outstanding features of the game is the replayability value. U can probably play the game a hundred times (each about 15-20 hours, depending on how much u explore.) If u are a fantasy/role playing game fan that likes blood thirsty killing, go buy this game.
Lastly, this game is rated "Mature," and for a good reason. This game has bloody decapitations(with an option to kick the head like a soccer ball), very strong language, and ,ahem, "love".
Once again I cannot stress how good this game is. U must go buy it now. I don't care how much it costs, its worth it.

This game has the worst rating ever it should be E for all I care. The game is boring because you hardly get to fight the blood does not look real. The People look like their from years ago. Whatever you do don't get this game it's a waste of money.

I passed the game in 3 days of long gaming hours. but the game has allot to offer and is very addictive..if you like rpgs that let you do as you please then this one's for you. the customizable charecter is a cool idea, the clothing is good but kinda limited , in my opinion anywayz...but over all the game is really fun and if your that exploring type then it will prolly feel pretty long for you anywayz.
okay

I havnt played the lost chapters just the original one but that choice isnt on amazon so here i am. Okay first of all this game doesnt have that much stuff to do. Not like everyone says it is. You want to replay it a lot to make your character another thing like more mage so you want to start a new game but you dont thinking about the obnoxious quests in the game. This game is super super easy you dont even have to try. The thing is you cant lvl up without quests unless you have a lot of time collecting small ammount of killing other things but that takes forever and ever. The game is very short. main quest beatable in a day and not much for choices on what your character wears. You feel really closed in walking around because you stay on one path from city to city and it does break off into other areas but you hardly find yourself in an open area and you feal you HAVE to go that way. It is fun leveling up your character but its a game you can put down without a second thought.rent it first.
Now now don't be mad cause of the stars, let me explain

First off after many complains of this game not being the best RPG as the maker claimed it would be my expectations then became very little.
The story is good. I assume all you know the story of you village being burn blah blah blah... And also about you either becoming good or evil.
The graphics are just great looking some good stuff.
The voiceovers fit also good.
The music is somewhat bad, well the music fits the game but after playing it for some hours the music just gets a litte annoying.
The controls are really great after some missions I finally mastered the batte system.
Now with all that said let me go with the bad stuff.
The story was great but barely gets good in the last 2 or 3 missions and should have got my attention for the whole game. For example most missions are kill this and rescue that and in the last missions you actually get the feeling that the world of Fable is unique.
The voiceovers fit with the people but come on with the rescue missions they don't have to talk every 10 seconds!! And sometimes I just had to but mute cause of those rescue missions.
The controls work very nicely and also we all should know that in Fable there are swords , axe , bow, etc. And in battle it was pretty much pressing the X and B button and comeon whats with that!! Even with the spells that make the game better, the maker said we can be whatever we want and I am a big fan of just hacking slashing people but this game makes it so boring-they should look at Ninja Gaiden that was fun cause you had all these combos and stuff to do- this game was rated M so then easily they could have put chopping body parts up and special moves like in your control when you want not just the X then the B button!
And even though there were a lot of various of enemies sometimes it just got plain dumb from the number of enemies you had to fight in a room.
This game is short and I would recommend to talk to everyone and do all stuff cause after finishing this game you might won't replay this game which I am actually doing just cause I am bored, and cause I lost my Warcraft again.
Verdict: 2.6 out of 5.0 Really fun but has a lot more flaws than I mention so that it can be a game that competes with games like warcraft. This is a must-rent and after you pass and think you are interest probably but it. But a great game though after all.
