An Absolutely Awesome Game

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, is, in my opinion, the best game available for the XBox. And, since XBox is the best system out there, it is the best game on the market. Many of my friends love Halo because you can just walk around ripping aliens apart, but that's what made me buy Splinter Cell - I wanted a more strategic, precision oriented game. If you want a game that is based more on precision, professionalism, and stealth, you want this. Even people I know who don't particularltly like stealth games love Splinter Cell. The basic plot is this: There was a coup in Georgia (the country) and this new guy is in. He's bad, and Sam Fisher (you) have to collect data on him and ultimately assasinate him. However, if you set off any alarm or are detected in any way. the mission is usually aborted. The graphics are spectacular, particularly the lighting effects. I've even had someone walk into the room and ask me, "What movie is this?" That's how real everything looks. The gameplay is ingenious. Sam can perform moves like a split jump, rolls, shimmying, back against wall shooting around the corner, and he can even use human shields and force enemies to cooperate at a retinal scanner or keypad. Although, the game remains uncomplicated. Only a single button pressed at the right time performs all of these moves. The sound is spectacular - Dolby Digital. In addition, the game is totally addictive. ... Basically, I think this is the best game ever made, and I hope they make a sequel. You really should buy this game. ...you will get hours upon hours of entertainment.

STEALTH ACTION AT ITS FINEST!

When I first played Metal Gear on the NES I immediately fell in love with it. The stealth action was such a welcome relief from the fast-paced action of the various FPS shooters out there. Ever since then I would wait with great anticipation for any new stealth game.

MGS was a welcome sequel, Theif satisfied me and so did MGS2, but when I played a demo for Splinter Cell I knew immediately that it had far surpassed all other stealth games. I went out and bought it immediately. In my opinion Splinter Cell is, by far, the best stealth game ever made, and one of the best games ever made to date.

Where to start...? Perhaps the greatest thing about this game is the visuals. The lighting engine is phenomenal. Splinter Cell has set the new bar for lighting in a game, all future games should strive to meet it or exceed it. The character animations are one of the most realistic out there. The graphic details are spot on, from the stubble on Sam's face to the crumpled pop cans that lay strewn about. To best experience every little detail I recommend playing this game with the lights out! Also, crank up the volume when you play this, so you can hear every little noise that you make.

There is a learning curve to the controls, but they are great once you get used to them. There is no button mashing or rapid-fire in this game. If you want to complete this game successfully you'll need a delicate touch. The items and methods at your disposal are awesome: thermal/night vision goggles, sticky cameras, interrogation, human shields, silenced guns and more! The story is a decent terrorist/espionage plot. It's not the greatest story, but let's face it the visuals and game play are the real gems here!

I've seen some reviewers complain about how slow-paced and boring the game is. That's the point! It's a stealth game, it's not like other FPS games where you run into run and start strafing while your guns are blaring. If you are the type of person that loves fast-paced fighting and shooting games then DON'T buy this game. If you love thinking through a game and taking your time then this is the game for you. Sure there are some frustrating moments when you open a door at the wrong time or make the wrong move and you get the Mission Failed screen. But every good game I've ever played has those moments; it's these challenging moments that make a good game great!

I was happy to pay $40 when this game came out, now it's only $20 so get out there and buy it. I myself am eagerly waiting for the March 23rd release of "Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow." Until then I'm going back through the game to see if I can make it through without killing anyone...Sam Fisher out.

Finally, a high tech action/stealth game

I was begining to loose hope that anyone would come out with a high tech stealth game. Tenchu and a couple of levels from Syphon Filter kept me busy but I have played the stealth levels in Syphon Filter too many times. Having never been a fan of Metal Gear (camera problems and WAY too much dialogue) I didn't have much of a choice. Then came Splinter Cell. I have finished the game an waited to do so before writing the review. This is one of the finest games I've played in a long time. The graphics are quite outstanding though not perfect and the gadgets are quite fun to use. The missions are linear but there are a number of ways to go through them. I have read how others finished certain missions and they were completely different than my approach. That's where the game shines. You can replay levels and be more or less stealthy, use different weapons and methods to get rid of or go around enemies and just plain have fun. I waited for a long time for a Syphon Filter stealth game which hasn't shown up but Splinter Cell more than makes up for it and is a blast to play. Highly recommended for the spy/stealth enthusiast and gamers in general.

An Amazing Game

"Splinter Cell" might be the deepest and best game I've ever played, and that's really saying something.

You play Sam Fisher, an agent for a covert government agency who is trying to discover what happened to two other government agents. The storyline twists and turns all over, sending you from the former Soviet Republic of Georgia to CIA headquarters to Myanmar.

The gameplay is incredible. You have to avoid confrontation for the most part, using every dark spot possible. You can take people hostage, shoot out lights, and use all sorts of gadgets to avoid being seen. When you are seen, you can shoot your way out, but the goal is to avoid being seen, especially in levels where you can't kill people. The controls are tight and easy to learn, yet tough to master. Just a little extra pressure on the thumbstick is enough to get you heard.

Graphically, you almost feel like you're in a movie. The game flows with no hint of slowdown. The motion is seamless and almost perfect, with every character moving naturally. It really is brilliantly done.

Overall, this game is one of the finest works I've ever seen. It's almost perfect, although you do need a lot of patience, as some areas might take you several tries to get through. But it's the best game I've played in a long time, and is worth a shot for even the casual gamer.

Best game of all time. Graphics are phenominal. Very difficult game so the game lasts a while which makes the game even better. Gameplay is great. You have night vision just like most of the other tom clancy games and you have heat vision which bumps the graphics up a couple points. I highly reccomend this game to anyone that wants a strategical game and is not willing to give up. This game definately diserves 5 stars.

the game play is fun if you like sneaking around and attempting the same level over and over. The graphics are fantastic and I do enjoy playing. The main thing that bothered me was that the game periodically freezes on me in the middle of a firefight. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but it's annoying.

BEST GAME EVER

splinter cell has many features that are lacked in mgs, but its story line just doesnt compare. also a flaw in splinter cell is the controls. mgs controls are great and easy to get use to. mgs revolvs around many elements that are just not in splinter cell

if you want a metal gear wanabe with crumy story line and little replay value this is for you

This game is cool. Alittle bit difficult cus you have to be all covert and stuff. I wish they added in multiplayer in there. But maybe in #2. Well all in all this game is nice. You play this ex navy seal ex CIA i think. and He runs around shooting and knocking people out. I like how you have to hide in the shadows and stuff. Dont set off to meany alarms or your mission is pulled. Start back from where you last save. It can be a pain some times but a nice game all in all.

Dissapointed.

I found this game very pleasing to play, The graphics, movement, weapons etc. are excellent. My biggest gripe is that I found it a little too easy. Sure there are difficult areas but with the auto save function it usually only takes 3 or 4 attempts to find the trick...ie the best place to hide and kill.
The game took me about a week to get through first go..(admittedy there were a few marathon sessions in there), I feel that there is value in the game, but there is no real replay value...I found my second go though very easy (even on hard mode, There is very little difference between hard and normal).
Unlike halo which I am still playing..(the difference between normal and heroic in halo is like chalk and cheese, then there is ledgendary)
Overall I agree with most reviews..but I would wait for the game to become availible second hand....I have already traded my copy in.
