I see alot of people saying good things about this game and they are definitely right. This is one of the best games ever been produced. Graphics, sounds, gamesplay, controls they are all astounishing. You will have think through every move you make, every bullet you spend and every noise you make. However the game requires alot of patience, therefore buy it if you are patient enough and like to think once in a while. Do not care about bad reviews of this game, cause i personally think that those who give bad ratings have not come up to the level of playing these kind of serious games including ghost recon.
P.S: For those who have difficulties passing the cook part of the third level, god just run through the alarm and cut their way through then you can hit or grab them easily do whatever you want with them. Don't worry they won't cry for help.

Finishing this game was bittersweet since (as far as I know) there is currently nothing similar available to take its place. I don't play that many games and finish even fewer. I either get plain bored or frustrated at being stuck at the same point for days on end. This one was different. While certainly not easy, it usually only takes about 3 tries to make it to the next checkpoint (with the exceptions of a few parts which were definitely intended to be harder). The storyline is as realistic as any Tom Clancy novel, meaning that while suspension of disbelief is necessary, it's still well-executed and keeps your interest.

As many have stated, shooting everything that moves doesn't work in Splinter Cell. The reviewers who complained about running out of ammo were obviously doing things wrong. I never ran out of ammo, never had trouble sneaking past a civilian, and found that if you observed the guards for a minute or two, you could usually find a way around them. Never even killed one of the guard doggies either. If you shoot people, do it where no one else will hear. I used the pistol more often to knock people out than to shoot them.

I would advise against marathon sessions with this one. If you're stuck, walk away. Sometimes you'll figure out how to get past an obstacle when you're not even playing. It is somewhat like a puzzle - you could just try mashing pieces together (ie, blasting away) but things will get ugly fast. Try a few times until you find the best way, and you'll conserve ammo and health points.

To sum up:
-Superb graphics (which are essential to the puzzle-solving nature of the game)
-Excellent sound with immersive dialogue
-Rewards caution, patience, and planning instead of reflexes and aggression
-Easy controls

Looking forward to the sequel.

Awesome game.

I just got my demo in the mail from X-Box mag. I must say the demo is outstanding, I have never seen a game so realistic. Like when you walk in a room there was a man behind some curtins. If he hears you he will some out, watch the way the shadows and curtin react. The real time lighting is a major step in video games. I have played the demo about 20 times and plan to buy the game. However I am upset because X-box mag said the game is released 11-12, Best Buy.com says 11-19 and Amazon has it as 11-21 talk about confusing!

Best game of the YEAR!!!

I tryed the demo which is half of mission 1 in the real version. What i really love about it is that I can download content. Like missions (official), foot step markings (non-official), Weapons (non-official), and more. What also cool is what you can do before you make your kill. Like do the splits between two walls, knock them out, question, them, hang off a steel pipe, and more. The weapons are great, but I say we need more. First Halo and now THIS, this is a must have if your a Halo fan!!!

Clancy Comes Through Again

Another great Clancy story turned into an exicting video game. The game starts out with the death of the president of Georgia in a suicide car bomb. After his death, a bloodless coup ensues in which billionaire Kombayn Nicoladazs takes control of the goverment. He immediately begins working to bring Georgia into the twenty-first century with computer access to the outside world. His ideals for a prosperous Georgia earn him recognition from the U.S. and other prominent Nations. However, his intentions are more evil than anyone suspects. Nicoladazs is covertly sending Georgian special forces into his oil-rich neighbor Azerbaijan to overthrow the existing goverment to make Georgia a leading oil exporter and a world power. Only one man can bring the current situation to light. His name is Sam Fisher, a spearhead for the NSA's Third Eschellon program headed by Colonel Lambert. Eschellon's goal: To physically gather intelligence from the field by any means necessary. After starting on a mission to locate two missing CIA agents operating in Georgia, Third Eschellon discover Nicoladazs intentions and brings it to light. NATO headed by the U.S. liberates Azerbaijan and invades Georgia to eliminate the Georgian cells operating there. In retaliation, Nicoladazs starts a cyber war in the U.S. attacking power stations, rail hubs, etc. causing mass confusion among the country. If that's not bad enought, captured U.S. troops are going to be executed live over the Internet, and China may get involved in this conflict and side with Nicoladazs. Can Fisher stop this crisis before it turns into World War III? From Georgia, to the U.S., to Burma, and back again your job is to gather the information Third Eschellon needs to stop Nicoladazs, his Russian Mercenaries, the Chinese threat, and Nicoladazs' secret weapon known only as "The Ark". Splinter Cell is the ultimate stealth action game.

I was curious to see what UBISoft had put into this game - suffice it to say that I was floored with the awesome job they've done. I'm careful to say that it might even be better than HALO! This game will suck you in for hours at a time!

One of the best games ever

Splinter cell is an example of one of those games that makes a system a "player". While the xbox is already a player, this game enhances a system that is in my opinion the best ever made. Fluent graphics and awesome frame rates adorn this game, which gives the player a sense of reality to the game. It makes you think that you are actually Sam Fisher on a top secret mission somewhere in an undisclosed location. I have been playing video games for a long time, and this is one of the best examples of how video games should be made that i have ever seen.

Best action shooter thus far

New to XBox, have PS2 been into MGS2, excellent platform the PS2. Got XBox for son and I mainly for Halo and to try the platform. Thought Splinter cell was going to be out first on PS2, had it locally for XBox and purchased a copy. WOW! MGS2 and Halo pale in comparison. Early pre-release notes do not do the gameplay and story line justice.

The interface takes a little getting use to, but outstanding graphics, goodies and pace. There is a limited amount of ammo and you get new gizmos as gameplay progresses, but the limit on ammo is part of the fun, there is enough to finish each level, but do not be trigger happy!

I put alot of hours in but could not stop play, finished game this am, can not wait to try on harder level. Will have to let the kids play some tho too...

Do not hesitate, buy this game, it is the best.!

Very Realistic, Not "Cartoonish", Great Game Play/Controls

I have not had the pleasure of writing that many reviews about really great video games since so many on the market are either cartoonish, hard to play, not realistic or sometimes downright stupid.

But this game is one to collect. It (for its genre), is probably the equivalent to Halo or Max Payne for overall quality.

Pros: Control of character, "Sam" is easy and very user friendly.
The missions are interesting and downright fun to play if you like to think and use strategy and not just have a blind shooting experience. Very realistic.

Game basically is about a member of the NSA (similar to CIA, but they do the "dirty work") who goes on several missions to combat a rogue dictator in the Russian state of Georgia.

Most of the strategy is based around how to accomplish each mission, while saving health and weapons as much as possible. In some missions, you are not even able to kill the enemy. All has to be done using stealth (hiding in shadows; and most enemy persons are killed or knocked out without knowing what hit them.

Cons: Very hard, so use game playbook go get advice.

Great game. One that comes around only once in a while.
